  1. Not a lot of things have gone wrong for B.C. since the trade last August. It seems when something went wrong (Early closing duties) something fell in place (Uehara) to correct it. I can't see any other G.M. that has reversed his team's coarse over the last year.
  2. Dempster pitched out of the pen for the Cubs so he has done it before and it makes the most sense for the Sox to make him part of the playoff bullpen.
  3. Rays lost today so a Sox win and the magic number is 4. Clinching early will allow Sox to set their rotation and give some guys some rest. I think 96 or 97 wins will give them the best record in the AL.
  4. WMB should be looking over his shoulder because I think Cecchini has a solid bat. He doesn't have the power of WMB, but will probably hit for a higher average. I've notice over the last few days that WMB has falling behind in the count 0-2 a lot. He then widens his strike zone and pitchers are getting him out with pitches that are not strikes. He was doing well when he was taking the walks when pitchers weren't throwing strikes.
  5. With this team I don't see the Sox making someone the captain. There are leaders up and down this roster and it would be hard to select one. I think Pedey is the unofficial captain as he is the spark that pushes this team.
  6. The Sox SP have not had to be perfect the last few weeks because of the huge offensive production. For the most part the starters have still continue to pitch into the 6th, 7th and 8th innings. They are the reason the Sox sit a top the AL East. They will be the reason the Sox go deep into October.
  7. As far as position players Ellsbury's injury could effect things. It not only changes who plays center, but it effects who leads off for you. Hopefully, he returns and that issue goes away. As long as Buchholtz continues to progress it will be him Lester, Lackey and Peavy as the four starters the Sox will go with. With Lester's strong performance today it is looking like he could be your game one starter. I think both Dempster and Doubrount move to the pen to join Uehara, Tazawa, Breslow and Workman. If you go with eleven pitchers that leaves one spot to fill. I think he would be between Thornton and Morales. It seems like Farrell is starting to gain some trust in Morales so he may be that guy. The bench past Ross, Carp and Gomes will be determined based on whether Ellsbury is a go.
  8. If Nap continues into the post season like he has been hitting in September it will be hard for the Sox not to bring him back. The numbers he put up against the $panks this year also are a plus for him. He hasn't hurt them at first base like some have thought. I think you know what you will get from him. Though Abreu has a lot of potential, sometimes the Cuban potential doesn't translate to MLB. Cespedes has struggled in Oakland this year, and Puig has his issues with the Dodgers. I guess a lot will depend on how the post season plays out and how much of an impact Nap has.
  9. With the year Nap is having against the $panks and the great start to September it is looking more and more like the Sox might want him back. Now that he has proven that he can hold up it wouldn't be wrong to give him the two years that was in the original contract offer. He says he wants to stay so if that is the case it will work out. As far as Carp goes I would bring him back in the same roll. Play some first to keep Nap fresh, play some left field, and pitch hit.
  10. If Ellsbury injury is major then Nava becomes huge for the Sox.
  11. There is nothing good about the whole Bard SP experiment. Bard probably saw his chance at big $$$$ was as a starter and the Sox shortage of starters at the time allowed it to happen. Just think if we had the top set up man Bard (When he threw strikes) in front of Uehara today. It would shorten the game.
  12. Does anyone else think that Farrell strategy of leaving Peavy in one inning too many on Thursday night was his lack of faith in anyone not named Breslow or Uehara? To start a pitcher in the 7th who was already at 105 - 106 pitches I got to believe that's what happened. They are going to have to baby Uehara from here on out. If the Sox were to lose him I think any chance of playoff success would go with him.
  13. The kid hitting one over the bullpen for his first career homerun was nuts. He also had a bare handed play on Cano that would have made Iggy proud. I know its a small sample, but this kid plays like he belongs.
  14. If Ellsbury is out for awhile Victorino will become even more important for the Sox. He is one of many good signs by BC last winter.
  15. Pedro and Papi will both one day see their numbers retired I believe. Pedro is back with the organization and both him and Papi are loved by the Nation.
  16. No one on the Sox is having a career year, but the balanced lineup with few holes puts pressure on opposing pitchers. They run up SP pitch counts and get into teams bullpens in the 5th and 6th innings. This is most teams weak link with their staff and allows the Sox to score runs. This has been the formula that has worked well for the Sox so far in 2013.
  17. The Sox winning the first three games against the $pankees has helped both the O's and the Guardians as they both have passed them in the wild card standings. Baltimore has four at home against the $panks next week, and the Guardians are done with the Tigers and have 15 of their remaining 21 games against teams who are out of the playoff chase. Besides the Sox clinching the AL East, the elimination of the $pankees would be great.
  18. Ellsbury is not the only one who is hurt. Jeter is hurt again. His body can no longer take playing that position. I said last year after he hurt himself in the playoffs that he would never play SS for the $panks again. I was close, as he has played only a handful of games at SS.
  19. Where would the Sox be without Uehara? Even though the Sox have been winning because of a team effort I think he has been the difference from the Sox being in the hunt, to being 7 plus games in the AL East.
  20. I kind of figured the Cubs would take a flyer on Bard. They know him and his potential and probably think they can fix him. If they do fix him at least he will be in the NL.
  21. Hopefully, with the lead up to 7 1/2 games the Sox will be able to rest some of their starters down the stretch. Even though Farrell has rested some players that have had nagging injuries. He has done this with Napoli, Ellsbury and Salty lately. He has also pulled guys late in games to give them some rest.
  22. I think Nava is in the top ten in the league with OBP. If he was in a weaker lineup I don't think you would look at him the same. Because of the hitters around him he becomes a vital piece of a tough Sox lineup. Other then Papi no one in their lineup scares you, but together it works an Nava is a part of this. He also has made himself a better outfielder and showed that he can play 1B. Being able to play multiple positions increases his value to the Sox.
  23. The thing with Victorino is you got a gold glove outfielder. Think of how many runs he has saved with his D in RF. You put him next to Ellsbury and the D is off the charts. How many runs have they saved? Though he is a very professional hitter, I didn't think that he was going to be as good as he has been with the bat. Even though he has had leg problems this year his speed has also been a factor.
  24. The thing with Nava is that he came out of no where. For the Sox looking into the future that would be a player in the system who is not on the radar and one of your top prospects. I don't know who it is, but I think it would occur in the bullpen if the Sox find another Nava.
  25. I agree. An when the opposing team has a really tough lefty pitching those are days that you usually rest one of the two.
