  1. Holt's lack of power makes him more valuable as a super sub then as a regular. The Sox need more power out of their every day lineup so Holt will come off the bench. If Betts is still here he will be your RF. He has shown that he can hit leadoff and has a little pop. He has the same amount of HRs then Holt in way fewer ABs. I like Holt as a player because he will run through the wall for you. He will be a good insurance off the bench if one of your regulars goes down.
  2. How many teams would take JBJ if he could hit .240 to .250? There is going to be some team that thinks they can get him to hit that and give them gold glove D!
  3. Believe or not the Giants are getting more out of Peavy then the Cards are of Lackey. He is a better club house guy too.
  4. I think if Theo's 2015 Cubs do not compete for a playoff spot he will start to get some heat. He came into a situation where he could blow up a team and slowly rebuild it through the draft and key trades of assets he did have when he got there. He has some good looking every day players that are very cost effective. Wouldn't surprise me if he went hard after a couple of the top pitching FAs.
  5. We look at Pedrioa as a number three hitter and when he is not producing it effects the Sox ability to consistently score runs. If you improve the lineup then you could drop him in the order. His numbers don't look that bad if he was hitting 7th. Pedrioa's glove would allow you to do that. Despite two years with hand injuries that robbed his power he still played gold glove D-Fense. How many runs does he save with his glove?
  6. The Cubs are close to being a good team. A lot of their top prospects are now playing in Chicago and producing. These cost effective players will allow then to fill the holes with FAs. Theo has a lot of $$$$$ to spend to fill the holes if need be. He also some top prospects that have no place to play that are trading chips.
  7. Already starting to see writers writing about how the beaning Stanton took this week might have an effect on him long term. Many hitters were never the same after such an injury. Would the Marlins try to unload him this off season to get the biggest load of prospects with the belief that Stanton might not come back the same player?
  8. Bogaerts is still only 21 years old. He is hitting again, and his SS defense is improving. I think a lot people forget how young he is. I still think big things are ahead for the kid. JBJ on the other hand will probably be used as a trade chip. There will be some team that has SP that the Sox need who think they can fix JBJ hitting and have a Gold Glove CF.
  9. If Tanaka is lost for next season that means the $panks will get their check book out. Them and the Dodgers are the only teams in baseball that could still invest in a 20 mil plus starter to replace Tanaka. They can because they can fit it in their BUDGET!
  10. I like the guy as well. Maybe the Sox don't move him this off season and he starts the year in AAA. He finds his swing and by 2016 he is back in CF and Castillo is in RF. At this point you can only hope.
  11. Can't see the Sox investing all of that $$$$$ if the potential was not there. If you look at the investment of about 10 mil per, if this guy can hit respectably this contract could be of huge value. A lot of young players are struggling around the league, this guy is a little bit older with a little more experience. Lets hope this is like one of the moves BC made for the 2013 team.
  12. Some of the above prospects are going to be used to repair the pitching staff. Castillo will at least get a shot in CF to start 2015. If Betts is still here RF or 3B could be options. Right now he is probably their number one trade chip.
  13. Orioles needed someone who could play third, and the Sox picked up a couple pieces that could be 4th or 5th pieces in a big off season trade. Its all about collecting assests that can be used to correct team flaws. Johnson was not in the long term plans for the Sox so nothing given up.
  14. With all of the arms in the upper minors the Sox should move some of them to the pen much like they did with Miller. He struggled as a starter, but has had success out of the bullpen. I think Webster and Workman are candidates to do this.
  15. The outfield production has been terrible in 2014. Cespedes has been a positive pickup. His power and ability to drive in runs will be greatly welcomed. He will be part of the 2015 outfield unless the Sox can some how get Stanton from the Marlins. It looks like Castillo will be the CF in 2015. The other spot I'm not sure of at this time. It possible it could be someone that is not even on the roster yet.
  16. WMB is in the same boat as JBJ. He has not shown he can hit consistently in the majors. Both could be moved to help rebuild the staff, but both of their values aren't what they use to be.
  17. I think it does set the Sox up to deal for a starting pitcher. The Sox have a lot of upper minor league talent that all can't fit into Boston's future, some will be packaged to help rebuild the staff.
  18. Lackey has actually pitched better for the Sox this year then he has for the Cards. If Craig can find his swing this will end up a steal for the Sox.
  19. If JBJ could ever find a swing that will work for him he would be a CF that a lot of teams would have interest in.
  20. This is player that only cost the Sox $$$$$$$. If he hits this contract will be a good one at a little over 10 mil a year. He could play CF or RF, his speed makes him a potential leadoff hitter (Another need). The Sox need someone who can steal 30 plus bases (They missed that this season). It allows them to potentially use some of their other pieces to rebuild the staff. I think the more assets the Sox have going into this off season the better position they will be to right this ship.
  21. Farrell is safe this year. If we are sitting in the same place a year from now you can have this conversation. As far as the Sox winning the WS last year being lucky, maybe, but you can make the same statement about a lot of teams that end up being the champions. There are a ton of examples where the best team did not win.
  22. Good point! When all is said and done Papi will have the regular season numbers to get in. Add in his playoff stats and based on this he should get in, but the issues brought up are things that some voters may think about.
  23. Plus it looks like Workman's future is in the pen, and Webster's might be as well. In short stints these two may be productive arms out of the pen.
  24. Hopefully, the success that other Cubans have been having the Sox have with Castillo. The yearly salary is only around 10 mil so if this guy can hit it will not be that bad of a contract. I can not take too many more games like last night. Almost no hit again!
  25. Ross is still a good backup for the Sox. If Vasquez is the FO selection to be the every day catcher in 2015 I could see the Sox bringing Ross back for one more year. He is good in the club house, still catches a good game, and is willing to work with the kid. What ever O you get is a plus. The Sox are not starting 2015 with two kids as their catchers.
