  1. hey now stop that - I'm not about to follow down your path of breadcrumbs that always has me saying something I might regret. I have expressed my feelings pretty well I think when it comes to our minor leaguers. It makes 0 difference to me what anyone says or thinks I still feel that we have some potentially very good young talent and I'm anxious to watch them play.
  2. I know what you are saying what I don't much sense in is anyone assuming that you can replace two relief pitches by strengthening the catching position offensively. I guess I am resolved to the fact that Kimbrel is likely gone as for Kelly - I don't know and that doesn't concern. I don't think that DD is going to go into this season without a clear plan for who is at least likely to be our closer though. I expect that the dealing isn't done.
  3. It is probably safe to say that i value an athletes character and the intangible things that I don't think can be measured a great deal. Maybe even too much some times. Nathan Eovaldi is a character guy. He fits so very much into the type of team that has been quietly constructed here in Boston. I just want this good older kid to stay healthy and start but I bet if he was asked to go to the pen he would be a guy that would do what is best for his team. It is a signing that I have to say- I really like.
  4. The way this team is constructed I don't think that it matters much if either of these guys help a great deal offensively. They are solid, tough catchers who sort of seem like they have learned to share a position. I like both for what they give us behind the plate and I get all excited when they actually do something on the other end. I think that it is safe to say that everyone who posts here realizes and understands that to have a good defensive catcher in all respects is extremely valuable. We are pretty fortunate that we have two. What is even better - they both look like catchers too!
  5. I don't think or at least hope that people aren't saying that either one of our catchers is horrible - they just aren't going to give us much offense. With Vazquez improving as the year went along, I think that together they did an excellent job at what they are paid to do which is catch not hit. You never know what will happen out there but I would think that actively looking to upgrade the catching position is a low priority. Maybe once he gets the bullpen stuff ironed out DD will get bored and go to work looking to upgrade there as well.
  6. Dombrowski seems to be able to get his "target" quite often.
  7. Kind of a moot point now I guess but a good question none the less. If you could get him for the same money, the same number of years and I couldn't get them both (lol), I am conservative - I do like what Keuchel has done to date. Kind of looks like a safer bet to me but it is very unlikely that he winds up signing for 4 and 70 don't you think? One of the attractions with Eovaldi also is that if the role of a starter doesn't work out, yup as much as I don't want to see it, He could potentially be an outstanding closer Can I have them both?
  8. I agree with you but I can't counter the deluge of support that emphasizes the "cliff" being at our doorstep.
  9. Signing any starting pitcher or maybe even any pitcher today comes with a risk. Lots of things can happen to them regardless of their health status when you sign them. Is their a risk in signing Eovaldi and his rebuilt arm? of course. The but for me is do you sign someone like him who if he continues to be healthy could be very very good or do you go cheaper and pay for mediocrity? since there is always going to be a risk, I'm in favor of going big and signing him.
  10. Looks like it is getting close. I will be happy to have him back. We'll see what he can do.
  11. Actually i was just be sarcastic.
  12. Are you trying to start something here by being a little positive about the kids we have in the minors? We might have the weakest farm system in the history of the game. It has been said! lol
  13. I know right. I can't wait to see whether or not that Dombrowski guy will ever do something worthwhile for us. if it hadn't been for those 2 GM's before him, who never get any credit by the way, we would be ......
  14. Hey and while we are at it let's throw JD in there as well. We all know that he is going to opt out after next year - we read it here some place. Just think of the sheer joy trading these 3 aging veterans who we know we can't afford to sign anyway would bring. The only thing that could possibly make for a better outcome would be if the abundant bounty we received could be collected just in prospects. We all then could be ecstatic because of the unusual strength of our farm. We could replace much of that steaming pile of crap we now have with some real players and our minor league teams would start to win again! lol Please kind sir - trade me
  15. I'm confused notin. Are you saying that the people saying that Moncada is a bust are also saying that DD traded away the future? I read the boards obviously and I guess I missed all the kefluffel of people saying that Moncada was a bust. Oh well - not going back to read them again.
  16. Ken Harrelson - Jose Santiago - Jose Tartabull - Lee (the stinger) Stange - Joe Foy
  17. Trading Espinoza did not bother me at all. If you are able to deal prospects for young decent cost controlled ml talent, that is a good use of the resource to my thinking. I did not like seeing Moncada and Kopech traded but for what we got and still have that one was certainly a no brainer. Now let me see, is this how it works now - I said that I did not like seeing Moncada and Kppech being traded so that has to mean that I didn't like the trade for Chris Sale right?
  18. Are you labelling Moncada a bust notin? I'm sure not. Maybe I'm embellishing what you said. if expectations are the enemy of any prospect, I would say that their projections shouldn't be stuffed out there for all to see. I'm pretty sure that you don't think that Moncada is a bust just yet but you know how it works I think. Who is labelling Moncada a bust? bobby dalbec reached AA last year actually and had a pretty good end to his season. He may even eventually surpass his projections. Personally I have not heard of anyone considering Moncada a bust.
  19. I am optimistic. But you have to understand, I honestly thought that Moncada was the one that was going to virtually explode onto the scene. I actually think that making a guess as to which of our guys might wind up being stars or even role players at the ml level is somewhat the classic exercise in futility. We have lots of guys who were projected as the next greats over the years who have flamed out. It is kind of unusual when someone truly makes it big. To answer your question though, I am no less optimistic with respect to our minor leaguers than I have been at any other time. The fact that few of our guys come with the guarantee stamp of future success doesn't really affect my thinking at all.
  20. Is it ok with you notin though if I continue to see these guys in a positive light even if the obvious reality I guess is that they must really suck? Oh and I'll clarify once again (just trying to protect myself), a person's size taken singularly, really doesn't meant very much to me.
  21. No need to defend yourself notin - you are who you are. Are you sure that i asked Moonslav if anyone would be Devers or Benintendi good? Not sure that that one is particularly accurate but oh well I'm kind of used to this type of thing. For the record, I was aware of Benitendi's talent at every level he has played. There was never a doubt that he would be able to hit at any level. My only question about this kid was his size. I'm beyond excited that his fitness regime has allowed him to get bigger and stronger. If it can happen with Beni it likely can happen with some of our other minor leaguers some of whom are substantially bigger than he was at the same level.
  22. I think that when you ask a question and phrase it this way with respect to Devers and probably more so with Beni being the comparisons to use, that you might be trying to make a negative outlook have a little more oomph to it. Devers might become a very good player. Benintendi has always been a very good player and might become even become better than that. In my opinion, it does seem as though that you are suggesting that Casas, Feltman, Houck, Flores, Chatham, Dalbec etc. cannot become players who are able to perform successfully at a very high level. It isn't going to happen tomorrow for any of them but personally it does get tiresome for me to constantly here that old tired drone about the weakness of our minor league system. It does look weak - I get that but I am going to focus my attention on the positive that these youngsters add to our program. And believe me I truly understand that I am one of the few posters here who appear excited about some of these kids that we are going to be able to watch progress. I'm ok with that.
  23. It does get tiring sometimes having to deal with you notin but here we go again. If you can find one piece of writing that I have even insinuated that Benintendi was not one of the very best hitters coming out of college and moving up through our minor league program, go for it. You can't but I'm sure you will try. Read what I said! I watched Benintendi play in Portland and my initial reaction was that yes he was talented but physically he was small. He doesn't look the same today. You got that? If physical attributes alone defined the future success of professional athletes, I would not have ventured much money on a bet saying that Beni would be what he obviously has become. My point, although I realize you are likely to claim that it isn't my point, is that neither you nor the couple of other people who spend so much time being negative (I know I know notin - you are only being realistic) with respect to our young minor leaguers, might not wind up being right with respect to them.
  24. In most sports, my opinion is that to compete on the very highest stage as in being the best smaller athletes are risking more with respect to the energy and effort it takes to overcome a lack of size which quite often means less strength. We are not talking about a middle of the road athlete here - the best. Now my second opinion is that Mookie's size will have nothing to do at all with what the Sox decide to do with him contractually as we move forward. He plays much like Pedroia played which in my estimation means that he will in fact have to deal with injuries moving forward although probably not much different from most great athletes. Assuming that that my become a factor in future negotiations with him, I think is kind of funny.
  25. I don't really disagree with this either but you are right it does get tiresome. You know what comes next - we aren't trying to be negative, we are just trying to be realistic. In my world, the reality is different I guess. No one knows regardless of how much they actually think they know what will become of this current crop of young potentially good players.
