  1. I like that. Makes sense to me!
  2. But didn't they in that some note mention that the Kimbrel still might end up back in Boston?
  3. There will be challenges for sure but I don't think that from the sounds anyway that our ownership and management have any intention of backing off the pedal of success. I think that we are in good hands and I look forward actually to how these guys will successfully handle all of the many challenges that people here are so concerned about as we move forward.
  4. I liked him leading off as well. the reason being though was his baserunning ability more than anything else.
  5. No!!! C'mon though - i leave that stuff alone until I feel the need to rebut something I don't necessarily fall all over in love with.
  6. We are pretty lucky to have them both I guess. I'll be happier if Betts is hitting in a spot where he gets a chance to knock in a few more runs.
  7. I saw Kimbrel's name mentioned as well - you never know. I'm happy for Kelly but I'm glad he didn't sign that contract with Boston. I also read those comments by DD about what he thinks about the "cliff" theorists and the disappearing "window". I think that I get it finally. There is one for sure with this core of players. I think that that is what needs to be emphasized. He doesn't think though that the winning stops as you lose some of this core. I like that (although everybody here knows that I am a lover of all things DD - lol)
  8. I don't think that going the cheap route is necessarily the plan no matter what it sounds like. I think that he is apt to go the practical route and not overpay for a relief pitcher. Looks like he is waiting for the relief pitching market to settle down. I don't think that I am going to criticize him showing patience. I think that the Dodgers overpaid for Kelly. I think that he will sign a significant piece before long. Might even be Kimbrel. Who knows.
  9. stop that razin' - You might make me say something bad and then you will stop communicating with me. lol (I know that isn't happening - when it comes to athletics, i think that we have too much in common!) For the proverbial talksox record though, I'm always apt to be that contrarian who chooses to look at things in multiple ways. I have fun here.
  10. I thank you for that. My choice would be Betts but the point is that there are many ways to look at most things.
  11. Hmm - Sorry Moon that you thought that I actually expected you to explain anything to me. I actually was trying to make a point. I do agree that Betts (imo) this year would be considered our best hitter. My point is that even though every quoteable stat that you cn obviously recite to me does not mean that there will never be a debate as to what or who constitutes the best hitter on any team. It depends on what you use as your criteria and what you value. Now what I would say is that I don't think that the difference between Betts and Martinez is some huge divide.
  12. Why does he look like JD Martinez?
  13. I would love to see Betts hitting third. Just because! but alas I'm pretty comfortable with Cora's decisions. There are numerous people who seem to think that your best hitter should hit in a specific spot in the lineup. The question that I have not seen answered definitively is what constitutes your best hitter?
  14. I agree and I also feel that one of the reasons that he pitched so well in the series was that he knew that if he screwed up he had Sale, Price, Porcello. Eovaldi, and E-Rod out there to pick him up.
  15. Oh I beg to differ - JH may very well have a self imposed budgetary cap but he sure as hell has no cap on what he can spend if he choses to spend. Guess we will just have to wait and see what he decides to do. By the way - c'mon do I ever hope the Yanks sign Machado.
  16. You know what, i don't think that the Red Sox are particularly enamored with any of their catchers. 2 out of the 3 are pretty good receivers who really can't hit a lick. I'm thinking that Leon is actually the better receiver. As for Swihart, who in the hell can tell? I just hope that eventually he gets a chance to prove us all either right or wrong. If a better all around option just appeared in the mist, I'm thinking that DD would jump all over it. For the Sox though it just doesn't seem like a position they need to spend much time worrying about.
  17. It would not surprise me at all if Kelly returns. I'd be ok with it I think either way. I would not alter his role though if he does come back.
  18. hey - what do you think that says about you? You are one of the few here who get my warped sense of humor! we really should be drinking beer together someplace.
  19. I think that we all know that with dD anything is possible . JBL- Porcello- Bogaerts - Who knows ! I don't think that any of those guys gets traded just to save a buck. We won't get snookered if any deal is made.
  20. Wait - that can't be Larry - Houck, Feltman, Hernandez and Lakins are all guys currently in our depleted farm system. lol The cheese clearly has slid off your cracker.
  21. 800,00 is a whole different ballgame. Once again, I really haven't heard any clamor about him at all. I'm also curious to see what becomes of Pomeranz. I did read the little piece referencing Joe Kelly. If the interest level in him is what he says it is, I doubt that he is back in Boston.
  22. guess they aren't over in Winter Haven anymore. lol They don't know what they are missing. I would be beating down the door daily.
  23. I think that we all just make our guesses here don't we. If the guess is right that someone might offer him 4 or 5 million dollars to come on board, I would be very very surprised if it was the Sox. As a matter of fact, that would stun me.
  24. Excellent! Minor league next to nothing $ - I'd sign him in a heartbeat. It really does remain to be seen whether anyone offers him a major league contract but I bet he would get a ton of interest if the thought was that he would take a minor league contract. The but in all of this is I don't think that we can assume that he would even want to come back to Boston.
  25. Maybe we could start just calling them pitchers.
