  1. A crusade you say. Mr embellisment strikes again. A statement of faith in our minor league program i would call it. I just see things differently than what you and maybe 2 or 3 others see things. I am very happy to say that.
  2. perhaps
  3. Perhaps! How good do you think they are? I remember pretty well what Beni looked like just a few years ago. You have absolutely no way of knowing how good some of our kids might become.
  4. Those of you who keep crapping all over what you and your anaslysts perceive as our sorely downtrodden minor leaguers, keep right on a trucking. I will continue to be as excited over much of the young talent that might even stun a few of you into silence. My guess is that we will have a few good ones for sure when we need them.
  5. I'm with you here. i think that this could be a very interesting year to follow our minor league programs. some good young talent with size and power potential as well. With respect to the ss position, Flores should get lots of attention but I would also add Chatham to that list.
  6. I would trade Chavis as soon as it took to make any kind of positive upgrade. I get the fact that Dalbec strikes out a lot but he has shown the ability to adjust at every level he has played at. His intro into AA ball was a good one.
  7. No news from DD often is good news.
  8. It is a fair assumption but there is no way of knowing for sure whether he will age well or not.
  9. I agree with you very much here. I have to tell you though in all honesty I would rather lose with decent humans working hard than with a bunch of pukes being idolized simply for athletic prowess.
  10. I'm assuming your post to be sarcasm, so here is a question for you, was there something about this year's team that had no apparent ass holes on it that you didn't like? You sure and hell can win with good people.
  11. I really hope that we have turned a corner and refuse to bring in guys like Cano or for instance a Machado regardless of how talented they might be. Could be wishful thinking on my part.
  12. You know I would probably be ok with signing Mookie up for 10 not simply because of the awesome talent but I also think that a great franchise needs to identify with a great player. He really is someone the kids - the truly important people - look up to. As in my grandson questioning me about that Clemente guy. I'm not sure that I agree with you though about Mookie physically being built for the long haul. He plays with intensely great energy. The kind that has and likely will continue to put him on the threshold of injury. He has already suffered a few. He does not have a large body. The type that we often think of as being able to deal with the wear and tear of everyday baseball. He is lightening quick with incredible reflexes but it won't surprise me at all to see him spending his fair share of time on the il.
  13. Well a good arguement but for all of the times I have heard people state the obvious, that Eovaldi hasn't pitched many innings. and that he has had two tj surgeries and that wisdom says that he won't hold up, I think that that is a fair opinion. What I would add is that no one knows. His arm has been rebuilt and he has been given a clean bill of health. I think that it is also likely that he will remain healthy and is on the verge of doing something special moving ahead. It really is a betting man's game I guess but if I had to bet which is more likely, another cy out of Porcello or great production out of Eovaldi as we go along, I would take Eovaldi's chances everyday on this one. I love Porcello but even the stat lovers I think would be willing to admit that his Cy Young year looked just a bit like an aberration. My guess is that it is likely that they both wind up playing for us. I'm really not sure that JH worries about his Red Sox budget as much as you do! lol
  14. Cano deserves the abuse.
  15. I wonder if you were as excited as I was when the rocket came along. He looked as much like a sure thing as I could have imagined. he suffered thorough a couple of early injuries and just exploded. My excitement level came back in a hurry.
  16. I know. I was so so disappointed about that one. I actually had my red sox faith shaken for a while but then we came up with that big rookie pitcher and the world started to look a little baseball brighter to me!
  17. I agree to a certain extent. Not though when comparing Fisk to Varitek. lol
  18. I would keep Porcello for as long as possible Moon but I think that at this point in time his Cy Young years are behind him as a matter of fact even though I was very happy for him, I think that that year was unusual for him for sure. You know what you have in Porcello. With Eovavldi, man who knows. Obviously it would be a risk I would take. I think that that arm is rebuilt.
  19. I hope the Sox sign Eovaldi with intentions of having him in the rotation. I do kind of think that that is what they will do. If he happens to really struggle (which I think is unlikely), then you move him to the pen. As for the Mets - yawn. Good luck with Cano. I absolutely do not think that a signing of Eovaldi will have anything at all to do with what the Red Sox decide to do with Rick Porcello. It would be silly to let a workhorse like this get away but a hypothetical it won't happen type of question becomes who would you keep? Eovaldi or Porcello? You surely know what you are going to get from Porcello. Eovaldi is the wildcard with the rebuilt arm - tremendous potential.
  20. I like it. If Dom had just been in center on that faithful day in '46.
  21. I hope so!!! Not the part about Stan the man though.
  22. The most successful people in the world (one of whom might be John Henry) are willing to take risks. They realize that playing it safe equates quite often to being afraid to make a mistake which might provide for a good life but it likely won't win you any gold rings. the red sox have won their championships by definitely being willing to take risks.
  23. My Grandson asked me whether or not Mookie Betts was the greatest right fielder of all time - I am thinking that he meant right fielder. That is how I answered his question. I have learned a great deal over the years and one of the things that I have learned is to not go into great depth when answering a 6 year olds question. but just so you know - all around right fielders - hmm possible I would still go with Clemente. they were all just so damn great that I don't think that you could go wrong with which ever one you went with.
  24. It is always risky. You know that. It just boils down to whether or not someone is willing to take the risk. If I have the $, in my mind the risk is limited. He has a rebuilt arm and his upside could be far greater than anything that we have seen from Porcello (former cy young). I would absolutely try to keep Porcello if he did not price himself out. He is an extremely talented middle of the rotation guy. As a matter of fact, I might even overpay for what he gives us. I do not think that it will be a situation of either or though and I don't buy into the concept promoted that it might be. Lots of things could change but down the road if the Sox want Sale, Eovaldi, and Porcello they likely will make it happen regardless of what the people who think they won't be able to afford it say.
  25. If we were offered either one right now - current age, current condition - I would still go with the Hall of Famer here - the greatest catcher the Sox have had and probably one of the few who people even consider in the same conversation as Johnny Bench. It is amazing to me how some seem to lack the historical perspective that others have. it isn't just an age thing either. My 6 year old Grandson asked me today whether Mookie was the greatest right fielder of all time. One of my jobs is to help educate this future athlete. Maybe someday for Mookie but not quite yet. Tek was good but not great, Fisk was great. here is what I told the little man- All due respect to today's players to - right field = Clemente - greatest hitter =Ted (without a doubt) - greatest player Willie I surely loved me some Varitek but really not in the same conversation with Carlton.
