  1. Like i said, if you are really looking for a weakness on our team, it is likely that you might say it is the bullpen. Sadly for our opponents though, the rest of the team is just so damn good, that you do in fact have to search for weak areas to talk about. Losing Joe Kelly I think amounts to not much of any significance. Not having Kimbrel out there does affect us.
  2. If you have no other issues with respect to your team, then i guess you could say that any signs of weakness could be considered critical or certainly areas of concern. We really don't have areas of immense weakness on this team. Losing Kimbrel certainly could hurt. Losing Kelley, not so much. Signing Kimbrel to a contract that if you factoring I'm in love with all things statistical guys are right that signing him ultimately costs us 29 million $, would be an absolutely ridiculous thing to do.
  3. I'm ok with that too. How about you?
  4. I do understand that but the reality is that given what we currently have, paying that much in totality is too much to pay. I still wish that we had him coming back and I guess a part of me stills sees a slight chance of it happening.
  5. Now it does make a little sense to me. If it is likely to wind up costing 29,000,000 to retain Kimbrel's services in real money, you just have to pass.
  6. You would all appreciate the following more if we were still doing the computation with pencil and paper - wins and losses - era - batting average - rbi's - saves. I'm glad that that is how I learned.
  7. You are something - in a good way!
  8. Great - Is that a prerequisite to play?
  9. Seriously - you leave me out. You stat blatters are really something. lol
  10. It was my point and thanks for trying to see it. I do though think that you could use this perspective with respect to many things and in many different ways of life as well. I'm not going to judge any of these users and alleged users primarily because I honestly believe that the people who do the judging may not be using steroids but are likely far from perfect.
  11. Agree - Imagine that (once again)
  12. I don't even know this guy what gets me is all the spout about how bad he is based on steroid use and steroid suspensions. We have had any number of players who have been alleged to have used performance enhances. Does it make things better that not much has been proven? All just rumors right. If any player uses and pays the price for it and attempts to come back, I won't be the one to criticize. It is about those glass houses some of us live in.
  13. can't argue with this -
  14. So is it all significant that Kimbrel is currently spending time working out in Boston? I'm not going to give up hope just yet.
  15. Things are a little boring right now so maybe it is time for me to revisit why i think the Sox really got rid of Hanley Ramirez!!! Everybody knows that the only reason i didn't like him was because of the way he wore his hair. What do you think, is now the right time? Could get us right into spring training. For sure it would bring slasher out of hiding. he does spice things up a bit.
  16. I wasn't surprised at all notin by your agreeing with me. Your thoughts being somewhat crazy from time to time doesn't surprise me at all! lol
  17. you know i do you old pot stirrer you -
  18. That is what you are somehow reading into my comments? Really Bell - What ever floats your boat I guess. You must not remember that I'm the guy who takes the crap here for being the most ardent supporter of all things DD. It kind of turns into a nasty road that we go down from time to time doesn't it.
  19. likely better than naming her Shittheed (which someone actually did) but not by much.
  20. It is going to be a tough decision that there will be plenty df disagreement over but i think that eventually one of the three goes. We seem to have a stock pile of backup players that we feel good about but that no one else wants.
  21. I would like a decent answer to that question as well Larry. If any of these guys provide such competence as suggested by their ardent supporters, why are they not being chased by other teams looking for a catcher - even a backup catcher? The answer I think is obvious.
  22. I'm not sure of how much faith I have in Swihart but I would like to find out. what I do have faith in is that we might all be surprised by what he could do if given the opportunity. Would he provide as good a backstop as either V or L, likely not but if we could get a decent return in trade for either of those guys I probably would pull the trigger. The rub is - could we get anyone of value by trading either Vazquez or Leon? I don't think that we could. Now - Everybody loves a competent catcher that we know so what's up with that one? What is your response Moon to why no teams are clamoring at the door willing to trade for one of these two guys if they in fact are as good as suggested?
  23. Moon you are ok. The job of catching is the most difficult job on the field. It is one of the most demanding positions frankly in all of sports. Hitting is clearly secondary to all of the other things that good catchers do. I never caught but I coached a whole bunch of good ones and they are a coach on the field. If they are good - really good- I could care less whether they could hit or not. We have two competent catchers who have done a great job. The debate here isn't what our catchers have done it really is just about whether what they have done has been that much better than what others might be able to do. Keeping them both really isn't an issue . I'm just not sure that losing one of them would be that big a deal either.
  24. Moon - I think that it is just you. Anyone who apologizes when someone makes the condescending accusation like you often do, is not condescending. I don't always agree with you for sure but I don't see condescend when I think of you. With respect to our catchers - no I do not think that they are as valuable as you might think but I think that that is ok. they don't present much of an issue though. If we keep them fine and if we don't keep them all, I'm pretty sure that the effects felt will be minimal. what we can agree with I hope is that anyone with a baseball brain realizes how difficult the position is and although it would be nice to have a catcher that could hit just a little it isn't essential. When people constantly drone on about how much they value catching defense as opposed to offense - now that I do think is condescending. The assumption seems that they know something that the rest of us don't and that is just wrong. We all get it and we all feel the same way.
  25. Moon - Do you really think that anyone who knows the game does not understand the importance of pitcher catcher relationships? this is usually the spot where someone jumps in and acts like they and they alone value the catching position more than anyone else - laughable. We all know how important it is. It is just that some of us, even though we understand that we have two competent catchers, do not think that they are particularly special at what they do. they are good catchers - nice.
