  1. it was a rocket!
  2. Oh boy - 37* in the house? Not comfortable. Good luck! I always just kind of laugh at the comments saying that any move that the front office might make is a "panic move". Scary words have a bigger effect I guess. I like to look at it as you see a need and you try to fill that need. Chavis might actually help us and I don't think that there is any way at all that bringing him up now could concievably hurt his future. He has already been through enough stuff to cause a person to quit. I understand also that he is likely to get sent back down but if his bat is major league ready, I think that you find a way to get it into the lineup.
  3. It hasn't been mentioned this morning so it makes me wonder if anyone saw the ball come off Chavis's bat last night? he very well might have a big league bat. I realize of course (I guess) that he isn't likely to just hop in there at second base but a lineup that features Lin, Leon or Vazquez, and JBJ at the back end doesn't really seem to amount to much. I kind of hope he gets a chance.
  4. I think that I am pretty much with you here. Cora is an excellent manager for this team regardless. I think that there has to be a learning curve for him that continued success will allow him to get. There has to be a balance somewhere between working too hard and getting too much rest. Like you, I get a little tired of the "need to rest these guys refrain". There has to be a middle ground, a balance found.
  5. Which indeed was a great contribution!!!
  6. fun in the sun is what it kind of looks like - not a bad thing - i've enjoyed it very much
  7. I'm with you. There are lots of different things that go into preparation. Some of it is dictated by the sport being prepared for. I do not know what the Red Sox do or have done or even if they did anything different with respect to their preparation for this current season. Based on the way their season has started I think that whether right or wrong, it is at least logical to think that they didn't do enough of what they should have done. In a great effort to be unoffensive to everyone on earth, i do not know if I could possibly be any more evasive than I am being. I want to be everybody's friend! I don't want to be "ignored" by anyone. lol
  8. We have to be a little careful here i think. Kind of looks like a suggestion that I used the two words intensity and tenacity which I did not. Although they are two words that have great meaning to me, you saying "gotta go with notin" is implying that I'm not going with notin. I likely am. I will of course stand behind what I did say - it is quite likely that this current Red Sox team was not as prepared as they could have been to start the season. A lot of arguments tend to get started here when someone reads things into someone elses posts. I said nothing about introducing intensity and tenacity in to spring training games.
  9. I think it does. what ever they were supposed to do to be as prepared as possible, it doesn't look like they did it to the degree that they needed to.
  10. I respect your opinion as always notin but I don't agree with it. Intensity and tenacity also are words that don't necessarily have to apply to being properly prepared.
  11. Actually the more thought I put into this, maybe we should just let our pitchers hit and dh for either Jackie or one of our catchers. Just kidding - I know that Jackie, Sandy, and Vaz never need to get a hit to justify their value to this franchise.
  12. I'm going out on a limb here I know but I'm willing to predict that Jackie never becomes the hitter we all want to see! lol Maybe JBJ, Vazqueth and Leon shouldn't even enter the cage!
  13. With respect to the conversation over the importance of spring training, there is absolutely no doubt that at any level you are going to play like you practice. I have no idea how hard these guys actually worked during the spring but not being in game situations does not help preparation. How much they actually played is much more important than whether they won or not. Wins and losses in the spring normally have no meaning but not practicing and playing with some intensity does. If they did not do enough during the spring to be prepared to come out of the gate strong, it is absolutely not excusable.
  14. Porcello has been and will always be I think a mid rotation kind of guy at best. he has been very valuable to the organization for sure. Everybody wants durable inning eaters. His number gets called, he goes to the mound. I think before the question of whether he comes back or not gets addressed, don't the Sox kind of have to see what transpires this season? We just started. Ultimately if he expects more than mid-rotation money, I don't think that he will get it in Boston.
  15. This was as predictable as anything that I have seen in recent years. Everyone wanted to and probably still wants to see the Pedroia situation optimistically but not reality. Sox need to pick up the pieces and move on.
  16. This I agree with. The simple solution is to simply put someone on ignore I guess. SCM33 can go against the grain but he is an individual. I kind of like that.
  17. EXACTLY - Man I've been arguing for belief in all of these good things for years. Atta boy Slasher. Mental is to physical. Chokers exist as do those few players having the ability to come through in the most difficult of situations. i know that there will be plenty here happy to see this type of topic brought back to life! I'll have another beer tonight for all of the most important things in the game today - those things that cannot be measured.
  18. I have always felt that Leon has been and is a better catcher.
  19. "Believe half of what you hear and none of what you see"! I think that you might be right.
  20. I thought I could control myself here but nope - can't do it. i'm invoking the old "csp" rule here (the common sense principle). It sure won't hurt to bring back Leon and use him I guess but if anyone thinks that he will lead us to some kind of turn around and that he is the answer to all of our starting pitchers looking so pathetic, I want some of that stuff boys. Seriously what does that say about our two current catchers? Do they both suck so badly that this team can't win without the guy that nobody else wants? I doubt it. it is very interesting to me that so many of us felt that there was no need to make any change with respect to our backstops but yet now we seem to think that Leon might drag out the Cy Young gifts that all of our guys must have. Our catchers - all 3 - just aren't that good. They are good enough i guess when we win but I'm not buying the theory that they are responsible for what is going on right now.
  21. I likely would not question any of Cora's choices. i think that he made a good and easily acceptable decision in going with Vazqueth. it is likely just me, I am not particularly impressed with any of our catchers. Personally i think that it is even likely that some of the guys we currently have in the minors could do as serviceable job if there is a no hitting requirement. That being said, i will continue to pull for the boys.
  22. i do feel that it is pretty much a wash between Leon and Vaz. My viewpoint might be tainted somewhat because I am frustrated with Vazqueth. I knew what we were getting in Leon. he is what he is. With Vazqueth, honestly I keep hoping for more. I keep expecting to hit.
  23. I'm pretty sure that you know that that very few people here are arguing for a major catching change right now. I guess that personally I'm just not giving him as much credit for the team's success or lack thereof as some to this point in time. I will say that I have always felt that Leon was a better overall catcher. Just speaking for myself if neither one of them can hit and we have to have one as opposed to the other my choice would be Leon.
  24. It really is and has been a been a balancing act. I wish that i could buy into the idea that either Vazquez or Leon were so good at their craft that it isn't important that either of them hit basically at all. I can't. I understand the arguments about not fixing what ain't broke or look what we did last year but I just don't think that means we should accept that we cannot do better. Swihart might ultimately be the guy or he may not but I feel that if the Swihart experiment does not work out and Vazqueth just does not hit, we likely will see someone entirely different catching for us in the near future.
