  1. Bill Buckner was an outstanding ball player who had an outstanding and long career. I don't pretend to know what or what not Red Sox fans remember historically but in no way did that miscue sully the career of this guy. He was a good one. i'm glad that I was around to see him play for quite some time.
  2. RIP Billy Buck. Gone way too soon.
  3. No I agree with you but all this talk as you say might what be at a max 10 people who post here? I do not think that what comes out of the talksox forum board in any way resembles what the thinking of all Red Sox fans might be. I get the fact that of course we here all know what is really going on right? lol
  4. Do you really believe that a lot of people are bothered by the fact that Pedroia is being paid? I don't. Personally it bothers me a lot that the end of his career likely is here. With all the money that gets thrown at athletes today, I can say personally that I know no one who would expect him to sacrifice the money due him via his contract. The story itself though is old.
  5. I absolutely love(ed) the way Pedroia plays or played the game. No question at all in my mind but what he should certainly be paid. The soap operish comment was made with regard to the sweeping generalizations being made about what people think about the story in general. It is likely that he still thinks that he can play. That would not be unusual for any athlete who has been as good as he has been.
  6. Letting Pedroia play somewhere in the organization I guess doesn't hurt anything as long as there isn't someone else with a potential future with us is sitting out. he has not played in so long, that I think him returning to a major league level player is likely not going to happen. For me, his lengthy and soap operaish recovery is tiring. Sad story but might be time to let it go. He is going to get paid but oh well.
  7. The rather silent bunch of us who never have believed in a whatever is meant by the "cliff theory" have been bombarded and overwhelmed by the for the most part meaningless garble of statistical data, likely still believe as we did before. Ownership will do what they have done for some time now and continue putting out teams that at least look like they should be very competitive moving forward.
  8. Funny how things come back around. I can remember a few years before our friend Moon was posting here, getting scalded for suggesting that Macro I felt would some day be able to help the big club. He stood out in Portland. Injuries have taken their toll, but the talent is still there. Good luck to him.
  9. I cannot wait for someone to bring up the possibility of Chavis being sent back because of any options that he may have. He provides an impact bat and is probably better from an all around perspective than any of the guys - and I do mean any - who might be due to return.
  10. He should have yanked him out after the double. Barnes was ready to go. I'm not into feel good ml baseball so much. I like Cora but not giving him a pass on this one. Win the gd game then worry about hurting Workman's feelings or confidence later.
  11. If you weren't honing in on senior citizenship, I might agree with you about your tv? Do all the women have blue hair on yours? lol
  12. You think you know the difference huh? If the thread is simply asking who has more current value JBJ or Leon, I don't see much of a debate at all. Sandy gets the nod. that doesn't mean that the team can't get along with both of them. it can. JBJ still is very good out there but his occasional great plays although meaningful and fun to look at can't make up in any way how he has failed at the plate. i also think that on occasion, he makes fairly easy plays look a little tougher than they need to be.
  13. he has done a good job playing second base. what do you think he has to do to be "killing it"?
  14. We are all pulling for him i'm sure. Kind of sad that it might be projected here that some of us aren't.
  15. I agree for the most part with what you are saying. In the same situation, I would do exactly the same thing that he is doing. I do think that although it is early, many people are likely wondering how healthy and how good does he have to be to resume paling second base for us. Obviously it is a waiting game but personally if Chavis continues to perform adequately at second base, I'm not sure that I would move him until I was completely satisfied the current edition of Pedroia will be able to help this team. I'm thinking that there is a fear that when declared healthy he is going to be popped right back in that lineup and it will be business as usual. Everybody knows what he has done and what he has been capable of doing. The problem is that it has been a long time now since he has done much of anything.
  16. you are multidimensional !
  17. You hitting 50 = you crossing the great divide. (don't believe anyone who says it is all downhill from there)! liars be they all -
  18. i very much agree with you and sadly it leads to somehing akin to a political discussion. There seems to be no room for the middle guy who actually tries to see and understand the attributes of both sides of any discussion. I also see the condescension piece coming from both sides and it does absolutely no good other than on here of course it gives us something to do on a rainy day. i do not like the concept of you must be on one side or the other or you just don't count.
  19. lol - You must be talking about that old "Its not me, it's them" Bryce Brentz. Seriously, a comparison of Pedroia to Bryce Brentz in any way is a massive compliment from a sports fan. Bryce must be doing something right.
  20. i'm not sure that anyone wishes bad things for this guy to say nothing about wishing him out of existence. i could counter your comment by saying that I just don't understand why there are so many people out there who think that he should be put back into a starting role just as soon as he says he is able. Bottom line for me is that I would be upset if that were to happen. As good as he has been, I don't think that you jettison someone who is doing the job so that we can watch him have another shot. Cruel of me I guess.
  21. I'm not caught up in the euphoria of watching Pedroia continue his rehab into the next decade. I respect what he has done and the way he has always approached the game but I am going to have a hard time dealing with a player doing what Chavis is doing being pushed aside if it should come to that in order to watch Pedroia get one more chance. I'm sure that there are people here who still believe that he can be a great asset to this team. Sorry, I guess I am not one of them. it has just been too long since he has faced real competition at the highest level. It is sad and it has to be tough on him but what Chavis has done in the field has been more than adequate. He works hard and he is going too get better. At the plate it is a no brainer.
  22. What defines "new school" and "old school"? I've been called "old school". It has not been used as a term of endearment. I happen to believe that using terms like this are alienating. I want what works on the field to be done whether it is something that has been done for years or something that has just been introduced recently. Believe it or not not knowing what all of the acronyms that are being used in current stat sheets does not directly relate to a person's direct knowledge of the game.
  23. I think that there have been a number of people who have seen Devers as our third baseman now and going forward. i am and have been for sure. he obviously he is a kid willing to work hard for what he gets. His fitness level proves that if you ask me. I do not now nor have I ever seen him as a first baseman moving forward.
