  1. We sure did hate what the Yankees were doing Moon but I think the question really is why? The high road says that we all felt that victories won through free agency were tainted. The lower road says something else. Much of the so called "hatred" was pure and simple jealousy. The Yankees were doing something that the ownership of the Red Sox was either unwilling or incapable of doing. It is a different world now. I like going into seasons now as a team to beat. Our ownership team has proven to be responsible and dedicated to putting teams on the field that compete year in and year out.
  2. Some of us have been saying this since the talk of the cliff began. It is an odd conversation and a theory that has been promoted by not very many people, but those who believe in it have been adamant about it happening. We have seen all of the facts and figures many times over. We have been cautioned about becoming the New York Yankees. We have listened to constant reminders about what the best and according to some might be the only way of building a team - through the farm. We all have our opinions and mine is that there is no cliff approaching and there are numerous ways to build a team. We have a wealthy owner who loves this team. I'm just going to go with it.
  3. I have started a few new threads myself and will once again I'm sure. if more people started new threads, I really think that more people would participate. I would like to think that a goal of any forum might be to expand readership and participation. Likely not going to get that without some fresh topics and ideas to discuss.
  4. Sign that sob long term right now! The man wants to pitch. While I'm on a minor rant, with respect to Sandy Leon, suggesting that he is fat because of his BMI rating is beyond absurd. It is kind of like when i was told that I had high cholesterol rating of 232 once by an RN. My doctor broke it down and said that there would likely be no need to check it again. The metrics just don't always tell the true story. If someone called Leon blocky, I would understand that one.
  5. Personally i would be a little careful about a suggesting that John Henry doesn't understand the "smart way" of doing baseball. It is only my opinion for sure but I kind of think that he gets it and that based on results his way of dong things is the right way for him and us. Some people might not like how he runs his business but I think that he runs it in a pretty smart way.
  6. I understand that. It is odd to me that for people who have the need for all things baseball to be supported by analytical data that they would throw out a comment for which there is nothing but personal opinion to support it with. I'm really not surprised though because we do still have a few around who still think that larry Luchino is responsible for every bad move the Red sox have ever made.
  7. I would hope that anyone who has even just a faint clue about the real game of baseball would have a deep appreciation of the talents of Sandy Leon. He did a great job for us. He is replaceable and probably our pitchers are aware of that. Doesn't make his contributions any less important. My opinion here is that there a few amongst us who inflated his importance and are having trouble accepting the fact that the front office does not share their opinion.
  8. Where does this suggestion even come from? wow - Most of us liked what Sandy gave us behind the plate but many of us have felt that it was time to move on. Personally i have absolutely no reason to doubt that DD and Cora are anywhere other than on the same page.
  9. i wonder if they will just up and quit??? LOL
  10. Chris Sale made his decision to stay in Boston very obvious. Rick Porcello has said as much. Stay tuned. No one here knows how any of this will shake out. It doesn't matter how much you think you know, you just don't know. I do not believe in the cliff. I continue to believe that even though the farm isn't as strong as when we had a few potential future HOF candidates it is in a lot better shape than the doomsayers think that it is. I absolutely believe that if the organization thinks that any very talented player that we have here has what it takes to keep us moving forward and truly want to be here, a real strong effort will be made by ownership to keep them here. It is more than about the money.
  11. I am with you all the way on these types of things. When you have something special like these guys with respect to what they mean to a team, you have to try to keep them.
  12. You think that i am alone here Bellhorn because I hope like hell that both JD and CS stay with us for the duration of their contracts? I understand the money and the analytics involved with these contracts but these two guys in my opinion bring things to the team that you can't put a price on. (I am sure though that there might be people who try).
  13. No not in an intellectual sense. You caught me again. Slasher does piss me off but I still support him and his comments. You don't have any problem with that loyalty thing do you?
  14. I could see this happening.
  15. Only a defensive Yankee fan can turn this into something negative by talking about the lack of our pitching depth in the minor leagues. lol My question to him would be can the Yankees match that starting rotation? I think that DD knows perfectly well what we have and don't have for pitching in the minors thus the great signings to keep that starting rotation one of the best in baseball for a number of years.
  16. I agree with you about the intangibles that both Sale and JD bring to the team. They are worth a lot of money. I don't think that a lot of people understand how important it is to have leaders like this. Raw talent which is for sure good to have isn't enough for me. I think that if JD performs like he probably will again this year, JH will make sure that he stays in Boston.
  17. I could care less about what anyone who criticizes this deal thinks. To each his own I guess but I think that he is worth a whole lot more. I wish that it could have been for a couple more years - he is the kind of guy i would like to see retire in a Red Sox uniform. I'm sure there will likely be a few on board here who will be able to give us all the data to support their position if they don't like the deal. You know the deal - too old, shoulder concerns, the budget, the impending cliff. To me it is laughable - a great deal for both sides. It is likely I think that Sale wants to be here and that he realizes that 30 a year is ample. A good day!
  18. In Maine notin, the snow seems to accompany the cold - imagine that. There is no denying the beauty of the northeast in comparison to where I am at the moment but an environment that I really didn't mind that much when I was younger has become much more hostile. I do not care if I ever see another snowflake. The double t's (temperature and taxes) are driving me out of the state I love.
  19. How many "average" fans do reach a point where they are in fact turned off by an over emphasis on the analytics and subsequently are turning off the game?
  20. Yes - Texas is another state that is becoming appealing to retirees because of its economic appeal.
  21. hey - for $2750, it would get you the house I am living in. I would move to the locker room of the clubhouse!
  22. Never once did I call you out on this but I did want you to know that I was aware of you doing it a long long time ago. It is your style. I think that since the ellipsis usage tends to make one think in terms of never ending, it gives you ample opportunity to change your stance and apologize easier.
  23. Being a "Mainer", there are lots of things I miss about New England but very few of them are related to the time period between January and the first of May. Florida certainly is becoming more attractive to us from a dollars and cents perspective.
