  1. This was as predictable as anything that I have seen in recent years. Everyone wanted to and probably still wants to see the Pedroia situation optimistically but not reality. Sox need to pick up the pieces and move on.
  2. This I agree with. The simple solution is to simply put someone on ignore I guess. SCM33 can go against the grain but he is an individual. I kind of like that.
  3. EXACTLY - Man I've been arguing for belief in all of these good things for years. Atta boy Slasher. Mental is to physical. Chokers exist as do those few players having the ability to come through in the most difficult of situations. i know that there will be plenty here happy to see this type of topic brought back to life! I'll have another beer tonight for all of the most important things in the game today - those things that cannot be measured.
  4. I have always felt that Leon has been and is a better catcher.
  5. "Believe half of what you hear and none of what you see"! I think that you might be right.
  6. I thought I could control myself here but nope - can't do it. i'm invoking the old "csp" rule here (the common sense principle). It sure won't hurt to bring back Leon and use him I guess but if anyone thinks that he will lead us to some kind of turn around and that he is the answer to all of our starting pitchers looking so pathetic, I want some of that stuff boys. Seriously what does that say about our two current catchers? Do they both suck so badly that this team can't win without the guy that nobody else wants? I doubt it. it is very interesting to me that so many of us felt that there was no need to make any change with respect to our backstops but yet now we seem to think that Leon might drag out the Cy Young gifts that all of our guys must have. Our catchers - all 3 - just aren't that good. They are good enough i guess when we win but I'm not buying the theory that they are responsible for what is going on right now.
  7. I likely would not question any of Cora's choices. i think that he made a good and easily acceptable decision in going with Vazqueth. it is likely just me, I am not particularly impressed with any of our catchers. Personally i think that it is even likely that some of the guys we currently have in the minors could do as serviceable job if there is a no hitting requirement. That being said, i will continue to pull for the boys.
  8. i do feel that it is pretty much a wash between Leon and Vaz. My viewpoint might be tainted somewhat because I am frustrated with Vazqueth. I knew what we were getting in Leon. he is what he is. With Vazqueth, honestly I keep hoping for more. I keep expecting to hit.
  9. I'm pretty sure that you know that that very few people here are arguing for a major catching change right now. I guess that personally I'm just not giving him as much credit for the team's success or lack thereof as some to this point in time. I will say that I have always felt that Leon was a better overall catcher. Just speaking for myself if neither one of them can hit and we have to have one as opposed to the other my choice would be Leon.
  10. It really is and has been a been a balancing act. I wish that i could buy into the idea that either Vazquez or Leon were so good at their craft that it isn't important that either of them hit basically at all. I can't. I understand the arguments about not fixing what ain't broke or look what we did last year but I just don't think that means we should accept that we cannot do better. Swihart might ultimately be the guy or he may not but I feel that if the Swihart experiment does not work out and Vazqueth just does not hit, we likely will see someone entirely different catching for us in the near future.
  11. I appreciate this Slasher - feeling a little butt hurt here these daze(I'm in one most of the time)! lol Seriously now ( I actually mean it ) - I totally get and understood entirely where you are and were coming from throughout that whole discussion. A part of me actually agrees.
  12. I do not believe that there is a single person posting her who does not value a catcher's defense far more than a catcher's offense. The rub for me personally is that I am just not sure that Vazquez is all that good. he is a decent catcher for sure but anyone painting him to be a lot better than average I think is stretching things a bit.
  13. Moon - it's all good here.
  14. Absolutely true - I don't mind it all when someone disagrees with an opinion of mine. You and i have had this discussion before. Almost everything that is posted here is opinion and conjecture. Having a strong opinion and expressing it does not in the slightest have anything to do with what someone else here thinks of anyone from an intelectual standpoint.
  15. I think that you are likely right with this. I did reread the post that I made that I guess is the one that Moon responded to. Probably just me but I didn't see much in it to get riled up over. If ever I don't agree with you, I hope that you don't get the feeling that I think that you are trying to act in an intellectually superior way to me. That is just me being sarcastic - lol. Sadly i do get the feeling here that if you don't agree with certain people's points of view, they tend to get all sputtery and hit you with one million pieces of statistical garbage to attempt to prove their points of view. Thanks for trying to keep the peace.
  16. I'm with you on this one as well. People can make all of the comments they like with respect to why our starting pitchers have looked so poorly. The simple answer I guess is to look for any change that has been made to the roster as an explanation - primarily the catching position but how does anyone explain what the bullpen has done? It is all just a guess.
  17. Wow - you really put me in my place. I apologize for totally misinterpreting what you have been saying for so long. Sometimes I guess I just don't get it.
  18. In your arguments with who ever to hell this nimrod from New York is you do in fact imply that it is all about Leon. Maybe it is - who knows. I understand that you have not implied that you know any more about the game than any of the rest of us. not a problem. Once again anyone who knows one goddam thing about baseball understands the importance of the catcher pitcher relationship. if you feel that Leon's presence made that much of a difference last year than great. I don't share your thoughts. he is an excellent backup catcher cut from the same cloth that Vazquez is. they are not that good in my opinion. It is an area that would not hurt from an upgrade and maybe Swihart could provide that. it is possible .
  19. The implication that I get based on your posts is that yes indeedy that if Sandy leon was behind the plate then our pitching staff would be doing substantially better than they are currently doing. That is your opinion and that is ok. You obviously are able to find statistics to support your view. I have no interest in doing that but my opinion is that Leon's importance to the pitching staff's competency has been way over blown. That is my opinion. I like Sandy Leon too and we may well see him again but if Swihart continues to hit it will be at Vazqueth's expense. Please Moon, don't go on a rant telling me how important catching defense is - i really do understand the game of baseball. There is also not one iota of "I told you so" in me. If the men in charge truly felt that Leon's absence was the cause of our starting rotation doing so poorly, they would know that by now even and he would be back!
  20. I think that the biggest issue here is what looks like a revert to a few years ago - poor baseball fundamentals! Cora knows this too and I expect something will get done about it. Our Sox are one of the best teams out there but it is ml baseball. You can't take any team for granted. I understand that I lean toward seeing things in an older school type of way and to this point I have seen absolutely no reason and no proof to say that some of the "older" ways of looking at things are wrong. I believe that you play like you practice. I do not know whether or not our guys were ready to go when the season began but they should have been.
  21. I got you earlier with the Matt Clement story. I'm going with the fact that times have changed. The way i read the thread title led me to think that someone suggested the Red Sox might have put an injured Chris Sale on the mound. In my opinion that is laughable.
  22. i understand that it has been done but once again my bet would be that any sane individual would not think that they would yard an injured Chris Sale out to the mound. Makes 0 sense.
  23. Just watching him run the bases ought to tell some of the naysayers something. he is an athlete who has not had the opportunity that possibly he will get this year. Maybe we finally do find out what he is capable of. My bet is with him!
  24. The answer to the question is of course no they would not. Is there really anyone out there who thinks that that is even remotely possible?
  25. It was refreshing to watch Swihart last night. It is good to see and athlete getting a deserved chance. I've read so much ******** here about all of his supposed deficiencies which are based on nothing but sporadic play over the past few years. Maybe he gets the chance he deserves this year. He has more athletic ability than the combined duo of Vazquez and Leon. Also to date how is that much maligned bullpen working out for all of the critics out there?
