  1. When you pose a question in that way, I think that I can answer as I wish. The three "best guys" as you call them have moved up. they were not traded and i'm guessing there was a reason for that. I continue to believe that nothing of great value was given up to get what we wanted and needed. The wheat once again was separated form the chaf. i like my answer.
  2. Likely true
  3. If you are interested in my response I would say that after you take Devers, Beni, and Chavis out of the equation, with the exception of Moncada and possibly Kopech, I would go with group number 1. I guess that means that outside of Moncada and possibly Kopech, I feel that we kept the right guys and the next wave very likely will be better than the group we gave up.
  4. My choice of words might have been stronger than necessary. I'm glad that some find these types of projections fascinating. I just don't I guess. I am much more interested in discussions about actual performance.
  5. So we go from top 3 to 30 and back to 22 in what time span based on what criteria? I think that these rankings are ludicrous as well as meaningless.
  6. i knew that you could be bought...
  7. A decimated farm goes from 3 to 30 whatever and then back down to 20 whatever in the wink of an eye. Someone has got some splainin to do. POST OF MY DAY
  8. but what about the cliff boss - the cliff? lol
  9. I think that he is as good as it gets.
  10. It would amaze me in a somewhat negative way if the players didn't at least try to get as much as they could from the uber wealthy owners. I'm just not sure that what you are going to get for that 3oo million dollar contract is going to make you all that much better.
  11. I'm also coming to grips with the silliness of the long term hundreds of million dollar contracts. Doesn't look to me like they are paying the types of returns that owners assumed they would. I would absolutely love to see Betts sign and stay in Boston. I think that he is one of those generational talents but he is only one person and to date he hasn't pitched. I don't think that signing him to one of those 10 year 300 million dollar contracts would make any sense at all. As many times as we see these great players come, there always seems to be another just around the corner.
  12. I would love to see our starting pitchers come to camp in the spring all in great shape and ready to roll. We would once again be competing for the post season rush. Not to mention the fact that our new GM would get all of the credit for not breaking up a quality rotation.
  13. A serious answer - Looking back at it from today's perspective -yes. But I was super excited that we signed him long term and still am. The Pearce contract took me by surprise for sure I will admit. It was a good reward for him I guess. With respect to Sale, I felt that based on what he gave for so long, he was very much underpaid. I still am a believer and think that he he will be once again very effective. Oh - I think that the Eovaldi signing was a gamble but I hope that the thought was that we would have a pretty solid pitching staff moving forward. Plans just don't always seem to work out.
  14. A buffoon says you??? Just when i get ready to retire for a while, you throw this at me. Come on man, I need my rest. It'll be good for you all. I think that you are doing this on purpose just to keep me around! lol As our farm system continues to climb in the rankings for no apparent reason can we at least get an atta boy for poor old out of work DD?
  15. this I think is a thoughtful post - not irrational enough to get a post of the day shout out from the gang but it works for me.
  16. I used your post to respond to but you have to know that I think that you are one of the reasonable rational posters here. You and Slasher too ! lol
  17. I'm just sitting here watching the world go round and round. I'm starting to get a chuckle out of this. There just doesn't seem to be any real compromise with some folks. You either believe what they believe or you are off the island. No one is always right or wrong. To quote Moon - "why is that so hard to understand?" You folks who believe that our farm system was obliterated aren't going to change your minds nor are you particularly open to other points of view. There were obvious reasons why its' ranking went from very good to one of the worst. Conjure up this one for me though - How in the hell can it possibly go from 30+ to 22 in a few short months? I know that you all will have a bevy of reasons that you agree on. Pardon my if I don't see it just the way you do. I don't care what the rankings say any more than I do about the people doing the rankings. It seems to me to be just a tad subjective - too much for me. Now come on, huddle up and give me all of your reasons why we seem to be moving toward the top 20. Got to be because DD is gone don't you think.
  18. I don't think that I disagree with any of this. Imagine that!
  19. I'm pretty sensitive but I understand where you are coming from and whatever you throw my way, I can take it. I like the fact that I don't have to work too hard to figure out how you feel about things. lol
  20. sarcasm my friend! I think that both Chavis and Dalbec are superior to any of the guys traded except for possibly Moncada. i would be fine with them staying in Boston but if they were traded for upgrades I would be ok with that as well. The extremely weak and decimated farm system comment is just me parroting what has been said for so very very tiringly long. And yes I never did buy into the repeated refrain that our farm was the worst in all of baseball. I'm pretty sure that people here think that I am some kind of huge supporter of all things DD. A defender yes but a huge supporter no not really. Whoever our GM is he gets my support. I might not always agree with the moves he makes but I will never go off the rails with respect to what is done as some here have seemed to do. I also do not like to get caught up in the silliness of comparing GMs. Plenty of negatives as well as positives can be found with respect to most of them. I'm clearly not as good a fan as the vocal critics here are.
  21. I understnd but it does seem to be intolerable to some that there can actually be a person here not willing to accept the viewpoints of the "loudest" among us. I would leave this topic absolutely alone if others could move on but that does not seem to be the case.
  22. I agree with the bulk of your post notin but I'm not so sure that the "stop please" comment had anything to do with my views regarding trades and when and how they get done. Your approach is a much more middle ground approach which I appreciate. it is pretty much how I feel.
  23. Was this in reference to me Moon? It would be a good thing if everyone played nicely i suppose but it seems to me that much like the political landscape today there is no middle ground. I am pretty content with my opinions.
  24. That is all you got for me Slasher? Really? How about it is my opinion. I'm fine with you thinking that I am all wrong. Hey perhaps you'll even get another post of the day comment from the people who share your feelings.
  25. stop please what? You make it sound as though I am accusing you of something and i'm not. Can a gm really get it right in your world? Maybe I should say things like - it appears to me or it is my opinion - . I'll defend myself pretty well and I do in fact think that there is an ample amount of hypocrisy evident on this board.
