  1. No one likes it when a plan gets screwed up but I don't see losing Vasquez as a devastating blow to the Red Sox. I feel badly for the kid. Outstanding defensive catcher - all the tools that you could ask for. Totally unproven at the plate - just like Swihart. If both were healthy, in one year I don't think that they both would have been playing for the Sox anyway.
  2. It is sad to say but Buccholtz's last start was one of the best he has had this spring. Outside of a couple of mistakes he could have been easily mistaken for a middle of the rotation kind of guy. That's about as good as we can expect from him. It doesn't look as though much is decided these days just based on merit. I do not care about how Buccholtz feels. Porcello earned the right to be first up! I think that the extra necklace Buccholtz is wearing is holding him back.
  3. The value of a better than good catcher is unargueable going forward. He is unproven in some areas but in the ones that count the most he could be superb. I think that his impact will be felt more greatly when we have a pitching staff that can stay healthy and get people out on a regular basis.
  4. No one will ever question the importance of the catching position. I think that Hanigan and anybody provides adequate backup for Vasquez. I don't know any better than anyone else whether Swihart is going to be ready or not but based on the fact that he is "untradeable" someone must think that he is damn close. I place great value on Vasquez and his future but I also think that in many ways he is as unproven as any of the other youngsters on this team. His effect on a young pitching staff going forward might be great but with the starting 5 that we currently have, I don't think so much.
  5. Vasquez being injured is a blow for sure but the worst thing that could have happened to the team this spring. Super young catcher with a promising future but the worst thing that could have happened? It's a test of depth but I think it is a matter of opinion whether or not it is the worst thing that could have happened to this team. I'm not for shoving young players into the bigs before they are ready but with the incredible hype surrounding Swihart, I guess I figure if he gets a shot I'm ok with it. If he is untradeable, I think that he is playable.
  6. If Victorino can go, he won't be splitting time with anybody. If he can't go, he'll go on the dl. That is the only way Castillo gets a shot early.
  7. I also would like to see Betts at second base at some point in his career but only when Pedroia gives it up or can't get it done. Right now he can. I think that Betts will become an above average outfielder as he continues to learn the position. If Bradley had become the player we all thought he would become, I might look at this differently. With Victorino's health history, I think as many others do that you keep Betts right where he is. I also do not think that Pedroais's trade value is particularly high. Everybody is trying to get younger.
  8. Glad I could finally get something going here. I'll say it again - He looked better today then he did in his last outing. He ain't no ace. A solid middle of the rotation guy if healthy. Sure, he will tease us now and then but that is what he is. Sadly, outside of Porcello, we got nothing better. On the farm - Maybe Rodriguez maybe not. Owens, Johnson, Wright? That is one of the reasons why I would keep Barnes working as a starter.
  9. You might be right. I should have said anyone not named Betts. that one I will stick to.
  10. I know you weren't attacking me. It does seem strange to me that all of the positive pundits who have been criticizing anyone who has even hinted that this pitching staff in general does look like it sucks have not come after you. I actually tend to lean in your direction but I haven't been able to get away with questioning any of their moves. Truthfully if I thought Owens and maybe other not named Swihart or Betts would get us Hamels, I would be tempted to pull the trigger.
  11. Think what you like and I am not sure that I totally disagree but he did look better today then he did in his last outing. In the first 5 (I think it was 5) he threw one really bad pitch that got blasted. If he "sucks donkey dicks") as you say, then I would have to say that without at least one major trade this team will be lucky to be a .500 team. curious - what do you think? You think they can win the east without him?
  12. wow - guess I have been beaten with the optimists stick.
  13. Can't disagree with you. I had to leave the house one inning to soon. I actually did think that he looked better than his last outing. Pretty sad huh.
  14. What - You didn't like the chain he was wearing or what?
  15. Stinks - really - I guess your expectations are greater than mine. I won't be confusing him with a legit stopper but I don't think he stinks.
  16. Buccholtz looked pretty good out there today. It was encouraging . He looked confident.
  17. How about that last play. We likely won't mistake Mookie for JBJ but I don't care if it is spring training or not. He looks good and spring training serves some purpose. I didn't catch the name of the person who said it down there but calling him the best player that they have seen in Florida this spring has value.
  18. It won't happen and I not 100% that it would be best case but if their outfield consisted of Ramirez, Betts, Castillo , and Bradley, I would be ok with it. I do think that Betts is getting better all the time but Bradley is gold glove for a long time. I think you need at least one arm out there like that.
  19. Writers say (for what it's worth) that the Sox may take a chance with Aiken since they already secured a player in Moncada who would have been a high draft pick.
  20. I still think that he has potential to be a decent offensive player. Above average maybe. He needed to make some changes. Maybe he has made them. I think that he still has a lot of excitement left in him!

  22. I guess that when you put it that way, it is kind of like what we are all doing. I guess I read what Victorino said as being something that has already been said many times. Sadly, everyone knows what most writers , talk show hosts, and news reporters try to do. Sesationalize and sell most of the time.
  23. Once again, Boston writer talk show or whatever trying to make a story out of nothing. Tomase's article is a good read. No story there at all other than Victorino's overall health.
  24. If we are talking about the same thing, I couldn't agree more. Creating a story where there is no story is a common practice these days. Trying to paint Victorino as a malcontent! That I am not going to buy.
  25. We might be happy we have some depth - injuries starting to pop up. Vasquez-
