  1. I have to weigh in now. Please indulge me. I know that you know the game. I remember those Baltimore pitching staffs of old. Porcello might have been able to help them in the bullpen. What start do you think Dave Mcnally would have gotten with Porcello's Tigers?

    Golf

Just read this thread. I like your enthusiasm for a game I have battled with for 50 years. Canada has produced a great many fine golfers. I am a big Graham DeLaet (sp) fan. I had the same back surgery he had and followed his recovery time-line as well. Tiger would have been better off I think if he had waited longer. If DaLaet could putt like Speith, he would be a multiple major s winner by now. No one strikes the ball better than him in today's game. The Henderson kid can really play by the way.
  3. "Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. Your hands can't hit what your eyes can't see. Rumble, young man, rumble." He was the greatest. Not normally would I agree with Tyson but on this one I do. Except for one fight, I would take a young Roberto Duran against either one of these guys.
  4. I don't disagree with you here. I just think that the Red Sox tend to be a little overly cautious with respect to bringing up their younger players. No one wants to rush people up for fear of career killing, I just think that sometimes tough decisions have to be made and something different needs to be tried. i am ready to see Bradley moved back up. This may come at the expense of Craig and everybody's favorite Nava. I think the starting pitching staff needs a shakeup soon as well. Outside of Porcello, I would at least like to see if the guys pitching in Pawtucket are ready or not. I rate them this way based on how they are pitching right now- Rodriguez - Wright - Owens - Johnson - Barnes . Sometimes a veteran just has to step aside. I have not been a big fan or Wrights but he has pitched very well of late. Rodriguez has a true power arm.
  5. Another excellent outing for Steven Wright. Hope the Sox explore some of their other starting options sooner as opposed to too later.
  6. Henry Owens pitched well last night. Considering what we currently have and for what we might get in a trade I would not trade either Owens or Rodriguez.
  7. Castillo has started to play. A couple of hits last night. If he stays healthy, he will be on his way. I also think that JBJ deserves and will get another chance. After this year, things will work themselves out probably. I can see Ramirez with a first baseman's glove or dhing. Not sure he will continue flopping around out there in left.
  8. Wright had a deceent start last time out but Rodriguez is the one who has pitched consistently so far. I don't care if he is 21 or 31, his time may come soon if he continues to pitch well. A big if I know but he has quite an arm. i don't think they need another filler in Boston. It is getting close to the time where taking a shot with a young arm with real promise might be good for everybody. Owens goes today we will see how he does this time around. He has been pretty ordinary so far. For those of you who think age (as in 21) is a big factor, take a look at your starting outfield in 1975. Evans was the old man.
  9. At present , the rotation has been one step above pathetic. Porcello and really that is about it. You could take the other four and trade them to your triple A franchise and probably what would result would be just as good. Lots of people are talking trades in the future. Based on current performance, who really looks untradeable? Rodriguez maybe? In some respects, it looks to me as though we deal with the cards we have. Depth also is one thing but it really looks as though we have stockpiled a ton of very mediocre talent that nobody else wants anyway. Way to early to write this year's version off but the past couple of weeks have been a little disturbing to say the least. You either have faith in what the front office has done and is doing or you find something else to do with your time. I don't see any quick fixes here.
  10. Appropriate and well written post. I am also one of those people that time has past by I guess. I'm not really in to all of the nastiness directed at various posters regardless of what they have said or who they have said it about. Obviously in this day and age of being able to hide behind the computer people feel that it is ok to say anything they want to whether appropriate or not about anyone or anything. The first amendment is a great thing isn't it. Fair game for everything and everybody. Sometimes the cruder the better. There have been many things said here that I can honestly say that I might have felt but never would have put in print. I liked my job and needed it too much. Words in print have a way of following you around.
  11. I'm really with you on that. It's like size in basketball. Learning all of the ins and outs of pitching is necessary but normally I like that power arm all day long. If he stays healthy, I think that he is the one who can really help. Others could help as well but I don't see them being much different than what we already have there. Rodriguez is the one nobody is calling a potential middle of the rotation type.
  12. He has been the one least talked about on the forum. He also is the one with the most potential going forward. He is young and he can throw. Should not be traded!
  13. Rodriguez continues to pitch well and JBJ continues to hit.
  14. I am a big fan of any pitcher who can get people out on a regular basis. I do not care how they throw the ball. I really hope that Wright can prove me wrong. Sounds good anyway. 7 innings of shutout ball today with a bunch of K's to go with it. Come on Steven we need you.
  15. I sat right out there in left field many times and watched Greenwell back in the day. Thought he was adequate not great but I loved how he played the game. If Hanley stays out of the left field wall, I would take him over Manny.
  16. Owens keeps sending the signal that he is not ready for the big show. JBJ a couple more hits. Have to give it to Steven Wright today. Pitching well through 5.
  17. It's the true liberals way of looking at things.
  18. Hanley has been very enjoyable to watch. I don't know which has entertained me more - his explosive bat or his unique style of outfield. I did not like the signing initially, now of course I do. The only real place for him right now is in the outfield. He is making most of the plays but the transition looks pretty tough from here.
  19. Tiant and Lee - should have both been there
  20. Most men in America think that that is a good word. Lost its meaning maybe but still a good word. Only ******** beats it as a word that is.
  21. first name basis and all. C'mon Ricky.
  22. I laughed when some of you said he could hit 40. Shame on me!
  23. He is an adventure in left but he sure can pound that ball.
