  1. It's not a bad idea to stockpile depth to make a trade for pitching. It's a good idea. I just don't think that I want to try to guess what their thinking might be. I haven't been right at all so far. i'm a little anxious for that deal that looks logical and good to everyone. Everrtime I have tried to predict what they might do, I have been wrong. The Bradley for Furbush rumor sounded great but not even logical to imagine it. Might take a little more than that to come up with a pitching upgrade. I'm not holding my breath waiting for them to make a move, that's why I am so interested in their young pitchers on the farm.
  2. I agree with you about Brentz as well. Eventually, I think he helps somebody.
  3. I've just been following the game threads. It's been more interesting for me than watching most of the Sox games of late. I'm really interested in what the young arms can do. Wright gets a shot today. See how it goes. This last trip through the rotation, have to admit though, things look much better.
  4. Owens - 6 innings - 3 hits! Great outing. Castillo pounding the ball tonight.
  5. That is an interesting statement and one that I think might be accurate. I do think that the pitching staff to date is one of the worst that i have seen in Boston in a long while. Personally, I guess my expectations for many of our position players were much higher as well. It really sucks but I will always be a fan. I really cannot see the logic in many of the moves that they made this year.
  6. I'm beginning to wonder if he will ever hit big league pitching. As a Red Sox, I think that this is his last shot.
  7. I'm not sure why they want another middle infielder. Bogaert's and Pdroroia are locked up for a while. Moncada is still in Florida. I know we don't want to rush prospects but doesn't that seem a little overly cautious unless something is up?Cespedes is gone and Castillo can't stay on the field. I want pitchers and I don't care where they come from.
  8. Another audition tonight with Owens going. At some point in time don't you think you have to give Brentz at least a look just to see?
  9. As we speak, Johnson could be pitching his way to Fenway,
  10. No one can disagree with what you have said here with respect to the statistical analysis. I think that most people certainly felt that a big expenditure in quality pitching did not happen. The people in charge felt that they had done enough. Projecting that things have to get better is just that - a projection. I certainly hope that you are right but at this point in time with over 20% of the season complete, did any statistical analysis project that the pitching would be this bad? I know that you are thinking that because of that things must improve. I hope that you are right but the fact remains that they might not. Which will improve sooner, the hitting or the pitching? My guess - the pitching moves are just beginning. For the record, I had no predictions with respect to this pitching staff - starters as well as bullpen. I bought and actually am still buying the positive plan. If it doesn't work out, changes I am sure will be made. The people in charge of putting the team together have to be accountable or there will have to be a lot more promotional events at the Fens to put butts in the seats.
  11. Johnson goes tonight. i think that one of the three (Johnson, Rodriguez, Owens) gets the call as well - sooner as opposed to later. Each time they take the mound it is almost like an audition.
  12. Awesome power we fans have. I'm thinking that Masterson went kicking and screaming but some decision had to be made. I hope that things work out but I think the moves are just beginning.
  13. Pal - really? What puzzle? It seemed like a good signing to us because we have faith in the people entrusted with the job of evaluating talent and making appropriate decisions. We signed a very sold middle of the rotation guy in Porcello. The Miley signing may work out. 4 or 5 guy at best. He probably should but probably won't wind up in the bullpen. I think that they are stuck basically right now with the moves that they made and did not make. We can all hope for the best.
  14. Good win. Any win is a good win.
  15. The latest telling piece that I read came from Buchholz - he and the rest of the staff were very surprised that Nieves was fired. I don't think that it was a communication issue at all. Simply saying that management felt that some sort of change was necessary and that the manager was going to remain would have been good enough for me. It appears that an attempt to create an issue was made and that I don't like. I'm hoping that they were a little more straight forward with Nieves. We get to see how it all works out.
  16. correct but they got da bears, da bulls, and da blackhawks. good enough
  17. I'm not sure Shaughnessy was alive when I started following the Sox. For me it's generational - Grandfather-Mother-Me

My guess is that you are talking Hartford. A great course to see some low scores. Golf course is a great place for any young person to work if you are looking for any kind of summer job. it is a fresh air game that requires a tremendous amount of practice to improve. The right kind of practice. Good luck. Complete your backswing and stay with the shot!

Glad you follow this game- hope you play. Great job Rickie. Another one who is good for the game. This will never be a 5th major- the field makes the cut but the course does not.
  20. I have no problem with them bringing him up. I don't think that he is too young. I don't care if people think he lacks experience. They could have brought up Spring I guess. I am actually curious to find out if he is as good as projected or if he will become a footnote like so many before him. This is his time. It is up to him.
  21. I guess that I would have to say that bringing JBJ up is a good move if simply to reward someone for a job well done. he deserves another shot at the big time. Not so sure about Swihart. No one really knows how good he will or won't be. Doesn't look like we are talking Fisk here. The logical move but not the only one that could have been made was to bring him up. As far as the pitching staff is concerned, it seems that some here think that they are mediocre. Not by a long shot. Maybe at some point but not now. Wright deserves a chance to start and the next one up would probably be Johnson.
  22. Retirement is great. Stay active and stay healthy. If I wasn't retired though I certainly wouldn't have time to post here. Too busy working, working out , and helping with the kids.
  23. Not sure the fans really have that kind of power.
  24. What are their other options? If you don't bring them up and you don't make trades what do you suggest? Status quo?
