  1. Who do the rankings???
  2. Johnson back on the mound tonight. I would like to be watching him pitch. If he continues to pitch well and JBJ continues to hit, there has to be something somewhere for these guys. I would hate to lose a guy like Johnson but if he continues getting it done, he represents more than just insurance.
  3. Good to know. Who does do the rankings? It has not been an uncommon practice for the best young prospects do be playing in Double A Portland. I didn't really see much that was too impressive yesterday. Once again though, hard to top the show for the price. Great family atmosphere. Great ballpark. Easy in easy out.
  4. I don't know better. I'm just curbing my enthusiasm for the youngsters until I actually see them do something. Like many fans I get a little caught up in the hype on occasion. I hope that the people doing the scouting are the best in the game.
  5. Eddie Popowski has been gone for awhile now
  6. I get it Spud - knuc, knuc, knuc. I like how you see things. Probably because we got a little of that old school in us.
  7. Like I said, pitching in Pawtucket looks to be the strength. Or it was. With respect to the hitters, we have seen them for a good amount of time now. With the "strength" of your system not at the double A level at this time, it tells me that whether they deserve to be considered number 2 or not is very very debatable. It is a wait and see approach for me I guess. I don't know who determines who the next stars are going to be, but I think that for me I am going to wait until they actually move up though the system and prove that they can do something before I am going to get excited. In Portland, I saw one player that I thought looked even big enough to play at the next level. Tejada(sp) - third base.
  8. He did look small. I could see a Captain resemblance when he was at the plate though. He pounded the home run.
  9. Now that I have had a chance to digest this a bit. I read an article a few months ago stating that the Sox farm system was ranked #2 overall. It was a feel good for sure. We know that the core of young pitchers in pawtucket have potential but they must include their double A franchise as well when determining their rankings. Is there more down there than i saw today or does Portland no longer count? just a few years ago the best talent showcased at Double A. A great place to see a game though.
  10. Very happy here for Bogaerts. An All-Star! One of the top fielding ss in the game right now. Bat coming around as well.
  11. He has been one of the best fielding first basemen for a little while now. Anyone underrating him, has missed seeing him play.
  12. A good win . Hope it starts a trend!
  13. Went to a Seadogs game today. Great place to watch a game but couldn't see much help coming. Tejada at third maybe. Watched Mike Yastrezmski hit one out though.
  14. Spud - Come on. You have been one of the guys who talks baseball. All this other ******** is sickening. You also talk some real music!
  15. It was a great tirade! Manny no longer wears the collar of being the worst fielder to ever play in front of the monster.
  16. You're right it should be interesting. Bucholtz, Porcello, Miley, Rodriguez and a big ? Kelly to the pen for sure I hope. Wright has done a decent job. I just wonder what they are going to do with Johnson. Doesn't throw as hard as ER but his work at Pawtucket has been top of the charts. I think that he deserves a shot if he is healthy. It makes no sense at all to leave the guy who has had the best start of them all in the minors.
  17. No one would ever question that the addition of Ramirez's bat could be a bad move. Regardless of how or where he plays in the field, from an attitude perspective the move would always be questionable. When you sign someone who comes with baggage, if things don't work out, you are getting what you paid for. If the Hanley signing works out, good for him and us. If it doesn't, you also get exactly what you deserve.
  18. Butterfield is one hell of a worker and an excellent coach. He represents another scapegoat I'm afraid.
  19. Do you truly think that adding Hanley Ramirez was a good thing? All things considered some of which do not directly relate to hitting a baseball? There is potential for a good team in the future but not so much right now I'm afraid.
  20. Owens not so much these days. Johnson should get a chance.
  21. led Zep here we go! Kashmir
  22. It might be very painful but I think that if the pitching remains solid, it is fixable long term for sure. They have field payers who will go out and play hard everyday in the system. Might mean going young and suffering along the way as we grow but there is no excuse for quit. If we aren't going to hit, that means we have to defend. JBJ comes back. Stick him out there and leave him alone. Might mean giving Craig a little more than 2 to 3 games a week and a pinch hitters role. Castillo??? Ramirez??? Sandoval??? worked out well so far. I had rather lose with youth than watch these guys under achieve. Watching 21 and 22 year olds at least you can have some hope.
  23. I hope that the Red Sox front office did their due diligence with respect to the 2 field player acquisitions that were made this off season. Attitude and your overall approach to things counts for a lot. There is a lot more that goes in to a winner than being able to hit a baseball.
  24. The bright light in all this for me has been the day to day play of our shortstop. Everyone would like him to hit for more power. I get that but how many of us can question Bogaerts overall play at all. Don't look yet, but he is gradually becoming one of the best shortstops in baseball. Hitting close to .300 as well. An incredible turn around. Don't forget who he worked out with this winter - Pedroia
  25. A while back it was brought up that any good team must have a good mix of veterans and youth to be successful. Certainly that is stating the obvious but still true. I do not have faith in the leadership qualities of the veterans that makeup this team in general. Papi and Pedroia do provide some leadership. Napoli is a solid veteran. Never thought of him as a leader. If you think that Sandoval and Ramirez offer leadership, I guess we will have to disagree. 5 veterans in Farrell's office, 2 of whom I see as possible leaders. The coaching staff seems to be taking a beating here and maybe they should but I think that it is time for a heart check for the leaders on the field. We have a nice core of young players who could have bright futures if there is quality leadership to follow. If things don't turn around very soon, we will learn a great deal about the quality of the character of our so called leaders.
