  1. Barnes should have been allowed to continue as a potential starter.
  2. Yes - I remember Nava's first hit. Nice job - good luck in your new digs. That's it.
  3. That is the only reason here is even here. I don't get that one.
  4. You are correct in saying that and although I would not advocate for a trade to take care of a first base issue, I think that staffing it correctly is the bigger deal. There have been some some good suggestions made and others that I have read. They sound good and should be able to do but it might not be a simple as it seems.
  5. I hope you are right. It seems as though he ought to be able to at least do a decent job out there. Maybe he has been told that is what will happen if he doesn't do what he needs do to get better. That type of leadership would be a good thing.
  6. Big night for Henry Owens. Hope the big guy throws strikes.
  7. If hanlley has indeed said that he wants to remain in left field and the Sox decide to accommodate him, they resolve nothing. If they keep him, he needs to go where they want him and probably not where he wants to be. DH in waiting and if he wears a Red sox uniform they will have to make the move soon or face the same situation they find themselves in now. What to do with Sandoval, Ramirez, and Ortiz is an issue that they have to deal with before they can rebuild or even get better.
  8. I agree. It's good to be cautious for sure. On occasion though, I do think that they wait a little too long. I also see Hernandez playing some second base now in Pawtucket. I still think that the Ramirez-Sandoval-Ortiz issue has to be settled before they can truly move forward.
  9. At the time the point that I was trying to make was that moves to go younger sooner should have been made. I think that it was evident quite awhile back that a big playoff push was not going to come. Sometimes you just cut losses.
  10. The players simply being over rated and over hyped is as important a factor as anything else here. A combination of everything else factors in. Anyone who was behind the scenes and had a voice in the negotiations to make the off season moves that were made including signing players with huge question marks next to their names making them big gambles should also be held accountable. It is ok to be wrong - it is also ok to admit it.
  11. i wonder what the orgs goals are for Guerra? I'm not sure he can do a lot more than what he has done at the level he is currently at.
  12. i'm the guy who said give me Rodriguez, Owens, Johnson, Wright , and Barnes as opposed to what we were yarding out there in April. The absolute definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and and over again with the same negative results.
  13. Me for sure. Substitute Johnson for wright and it would be what I expected.
  14. Nothing wrong with the concept of locking up a solid starter even though he would be middle of the rotation at best before they hit free agency. Porcello's contract was over the top though. i bet he is quite happy with it. He does not have a top of the rotation arm.
  15. Let's hear it for Mickey Lolitch
  16. Great day for Shaw! Now we see whether he plays tomorrow or not. Last time up, he had a couple of hits, then sat. We need more Joe Kelly.(not)
  17. It is conceivable that as opposed to finishing last on a consistent basis, I might. But - we won them and they can't take them away from us.
  18. I really think that if he is not going to catch, he should be traded. Doesn't look like he is going to be a big power guy anytime soon. He would be a small upgrade at first base over Portland's Sam Travis. He would be worth much more as a potential trade candidate.
  19. I don't think that it made much difference with respect to XB's development. He made all the difference during this past off season. I really don't think more reps would have made much difference at all. He realized what he needed to do to become an elite shortstop. During the off season, he got it done. I would not let him go for anything! Trade Guerra - he looks like a potential star but I like the guy we got there right now.
  20. I think that i might be a bad fan. A dedicated one, but still bad. Championships are a great thing but in most programs they are rare. I would much prefer a team that is built to just have a chance and be competitive each year. Baseball to me is similar to running marathons. i just want them to be in position at the end. The summer months lose something for me when this team doesn't compete. Lost time can't be made up by winning a championship every 4 or 5 or whatever years. for me it is much more about the hunt.
  21. Just thinking about things but when you look at the big picture going into spring training, there was not one position that you couldn't call into question. Even Pedroia because of the injuries he has had. We all hoped things would work out and many thought that they would. They didn't. If there is anything that resembles a rebuild, I hope that it starts with pitching and then progresses to general defense. The hitting aspect needs to be addressed last. If you can keep them from scoring, no matter how bad you might be offensively, you have a chance. I don't know how this affects the status of Sandoval and Ramirez and in all honesty, I don't care. If Ortiz is back as our dh, there is no place for Ramirez. He is too much of a liability no matter where you play him. If Sandoval does not do what he needs to do, same thing goes for him. If we are going to suck for a while, lets at least suck going in the right direction.
  22. Hernandez and Travis continue to hit - who are these guys right? Not Margot,Devers,Guerra?
  23. Does this mean that you think he sucks? He is a small upgrade over what we had there. what we had there isn't in the majors any longer. Since it should never be Hanley, who gets to be the next one.Devers is 20 and the red Sox won't move a prospect like that for another 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 years? It won't be be Brock Holt . Actually i should have said that he is "big" upgrade. Fish or cut bait is the expression - I would give this slob one off season to see if he really gives a s***.
