  1. I agree- I think that his ability to field the position at the next level might be an issue for him. He could make it though. I hope he gets his chance. It's a very good story. We have seen many players with a lot more potential never make it.
  2. What SK wrote. I think that I saw it the same place he did. Come on - Don't I get a "fair enough"?
  3. You are right actually. The credibility concept though just comes as a result of a number of people who post here who sound like they know what they are talking about. I did not purposefully skip on any concepts regarding project valuations. I truly admit that I don't know what they are. A debate is good. I like reading other opinions. I also don't mind admitting mistakes. I liken this to the game of golf - you can have the greatest swing in the world but if you don't get the ball in the cup, you don't make it.
  4. Hey - good list - my personal opinion - Guerra would currently move up this list until he gets to a level that he stalls out at. I like him a lot. Based on what he has done this year, he must not play against many lefties.
  5. I just understand results. When I was coaching, I did not cut the best players. I always preferred those who got it done to those who someone thought might get it done.
  6. I am enthusiastic about this kid but no more than I would be for any minor league player who is having a great season and deserves the "love". I don't know if he will ever truly make it but based on everything I have seen and read, no one else does either. Maybe the Boss was right when he said "believe half of what you hear and none of what you see"!
  7. SK - there were a number of posters who didn't even know who Hernandez is. They have no credibility with me. They don't follow them they just spit out someone else opinions about prospects. I don't claim to know any more than anyone else about these kids but I am very results oriented. A lot of these guys come wrapped in pretty packages. I tend to like the guys who produce whether or not they come with glowing accolades. I truly acknowledge that the people doing the scouting and the ones crunching the numbers are very talented. I just absolutely believe that on occasion they are human and get too hung up in of the "potential" talk just like the rest of us. I do appreciate your posts. I guess I really don't know what a player has to do to tun the heads of the talent searching gurus. Could Hernandez fall flat from here on in? Of course but as of today, no "prospect" is outplaying him at any level.
  8. Rodriguez's ceiling was always projected to be higher than Owens. No one knows how ultimately their careers will play out. If the return was high enough, I could see Owens packaged with others for a trade but not Rodriguez

All great picks. A great tribute for Tom Watson as well.

It's the British Open. Spieth off to a great start!
  11. I would not trade him for a rental by any means but i am still looking for those guys who said he was a top of the rotation prospect.. Mid-rotation potential yes - top?
  12. Great All-Star game for Hernandez.
  13. Man this Hernandez kid just doesn't get it. He is a non-legit prospect. He is so far behind the chosen few, that he isn't even on the radar screen. Maybe we will just wind up having to keep him. Leading the league in hitting. 2 for 2 in the All-Star game last night including a dinger. All-Star game MVP! Damn lucky season for this guy!
  14. Owens is good for a couple of walks over the course of 7 innings or so. Moncada has started to hit a little and Guerra continues to look like a good one. Owens might provide some middle of the rotation help for us someday. There are no "prospects" in the minors that are playing so well that they come with a can't miss label. For the right player or players, a trade could really help.
  15. I would not trade Betts and i would not trade XB - means you have a pant load of prospects that someone thinks are going to be great who will eventually play ss and any of the 3 outfield positions. to get Gray (which ain't happening) I trade any of the rest except E-Rod.
  16. I agree with the order . Players first then coaches ( I think ).
  17. I would do this deal yesterday but I don't think Beane would.
  18. I'm one of them. Most teams realize that in today's market, you will be paying for very little at the ends of many of these big contracts. With respect to Jon Lester, I'm trying to give them credit for not being stupid. They gambled and lost.
  19. You are a good kid. No one is 100% right about anything. If you are willing to listen to the points of view of many different people, you never know what you might learn. Respecting someone whom you disagree with is a concept that most people just don't like. It is particularly obvious when you don't have to see the person you are talking to. Learn as much as you can, then form your own opinions. You are not letting someone speak for you - I like that.
  20. I also hope greatly that they do not sign someone unless that person is signed beyond next season. I would feel a little better if I felt that the current team had shown that they can come from behind to win games a little more often. They have had chances but something seems to be missing. It just doesn't feel right.
  21. So who are you going to believe these days right? Who are you going to hang your hat? I would have felt a lot better then and I would feel a lot better now if they had gone out and gotten that one pitcher that everyone seems to have known then and now they we need. Goes without saying that we need that pitcher now. We might even need more than one.
  22. We need a veteran presence at the top of the rotation who can pitch just a little. In a perfect world said pitcher would be under 30 and signed for a long time. The world isn't perfect the Red Sox have the money and the prospects to make any deal that they want to make. They have proven over and over by their actions that money is not a major factor. They talk fiscal responsibility and that's it.
  23. An accurate statement. Some good athletes but a number could be blocked for a long time. Keeping gym eye on Guerra's development even though he is a ss.
  24. Maybe the "experts" should be held accountable if their suggestions were somewhat responsible for the way this team was assembled. bring in a new group of analysts.
  25. I can only speak for myself and in all honesty i made no study of the Yankees and their potential for this season. I have nothing to say really about Cashman. i don't see any team in the aLe as really being all that good. Good fortune - good breaks - call it what you like, most of the time it isn't really luck at all. I got caught up in the emotion of the moment. This is not a good baseball team. We have a short list of good young players with a few more with pretty good potential just on the outside looking in. Note - I did not say that all of our players are bad. It is a bad team in need of something more that just a quick fix.
