  1. I think they tried to do the job. It just didn't get done. Everyone shares in the blame. It does not all fall onto the shoulders of the coaching staff. I would not be opposed to seeing a change at the top but if anyone truly thinks that that alone will solve the problems then they need to get their heads out of the sand and take a look around. The talent has not produced what people expected because it isn't as good as we all expected it to be.
  2. That really is the issue here.
  3. Not the point I was trying to make at all. I don't think it is a bad thing to play any of the kids at this point. Lets see - Napoli who won't be with us next year or take a look at something different. Nah - what the f*** right. Makes no sense. This organization has a great plan. Showcase Napoli and maybe if we are lucky we can pick up another Rutledge for him.
  4. You already know how I feel about this one. As a franchise, they should be competitive every year. Personally, I think that the pitching issue that this team has will not be that difficult an issue to fix. Obviously they need some help, but I still like their young guys. The problems with the rest of the bunch - offense, defense, playing people out of position - are going to be tougher puzzles to piece together for them.
  5. same here on that one
  6. We have signed journeymen infielders and journeymen outfielders who someone in their infinite wisdom thinks should be getting the playing time that some younger players are getting.
  7. If he stays healthy, I don't think anybody can predict how good he might be. Might be more mental than physical. He throws hard, he is very young, and he looks like a good sized linebacker when compared to most of our pitchers. He could be very good.
  8. Based on what we have seen this year, it is just a guess as to what Nava will do. If all indicators seem to say that he should hit , maybe he will. It is just a calculated risk - low budget - that they are taking. Good for him and good for them.
  9. If they just focused on the actual game of baseball, it would be good enough for me. It would make sense from a purely baseball move to see what he can do throughout the rest of the season. Maybe it just makes to much sense.
  10. Just a guess on my part but I am thinking that maybe Craig should be given at least a look right now as they fish around for a first baseman type guy for next year.
  11. Barnes should have been allowed to continue as a potential starter.
  12. Yes - I remember Nava's first hit. Nice job - good luck in your new digs. That's it.
  13. That is the only reason here is even here. I don't get that one.
  14. You are correct in saying that and although I would not advocate for a trade to take care of a first base issue, I think that staffing it correctly is the bigger deal. There have been some some good suggestions made and others that I have read. They sound good and should be able to do but it might not be a simple as it seems.
  15. I hope you are right. It seems as though he ought to be able to at least do a decent job out there. Maybe he has been told that is what will happen if he doesn't do what he needs do to get better. That type of leadership would be a good thing.
  16. Big night for Henry Owens. Hope the big guy throws strikes.
  17. If hanlley has indeed said that he wants to remain in left field and the Sox decide to accommodate him, they resolve nothing. If they keep him, he needs to go where they want him and probably not where he wants to be. DH in waiting and if he wears a Red sox uniform they will have to make the move soon or face the same situation they find themselves in now. What to do with Sandoval, Ramirez, and Ortiz is an issue that they have to deal with before they can rebuild or even get better.
  18. I agree. It's good to be cautious for sure. On occasion though, I do think that they wait a little too long. I also see Hernandez playing some second base now in Pawtucket. I still think that the Ramirez-Sandoval-Ortiz issue has to be settled before they can truly move forward.
  19. At the time the point that I was trying to make was that moves to go younger sooner should have been made. I think that it was evident quite awhile back that a big playoff push was not going to come. Sometimes you just cut losses.
  20. The players simply being over rated and over hyped is as important a factor as anything else here. A combination of everything else factors in. Anyone who was behind the scenes and had a voice in the negotiations to make the off season moves that were made including signing players with huge question marks next to their names making them big gambles should also be held accountable. It is ok to be wrong - it is also ok to admit it.
  21. i wonder what the orgs goals are for Guerra? I'm not sure he can do a lot more than what he has done at the level he is currently at.
  22. i'm the guy who said give me Rodriguez, Owens, Johnson, Wright , and Barnes as opposed to what we were yarding out there in April. The absolute definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and and over again with the same negative results.
  23. Me for sure. Substitute Johnson for wright and it would be what I expected.
  24. Nothing wrong with the concept of locking up a solid starter even though he would be middle of the rotation at best before they hit free agency. Porcello's contract was over the top though. i bet he is quite happy with it. He does not have a top of the rotation arm.
