is this going to be the JBJ that we have been waiting for? He is still a young man and just the other day no one stuttered when Elsbury headed to New York because we had this can't miss kid. If he becomes that player, we will be a very special team. Everything we have seen Mookie do, many of us felt it was what JBJ should be doing.

It's a good bet that Owens will be heading back to AAA but there is something there. If he could just find that strike zone a little more often. Don't see him ever being top of rotation but it is possible that he could help out.

have to tell you - have been looking at that picture for a while now. Actually it is the first time that I have seen it in color. the greatist hitter of all time bar none. He really was! Looks better in color.

I love the game but I do think that I loved it a little more back then. Apparicio is in the HOF because he was that good. No one has mentioned him but how good was Burleson back in the day. It almost drove me to the dark side when they let Fisk, lynn, and the Rooster walk.(not really but I wasn't very happy). i also absolutely believe that Lynn would have had a HOF career if he had stayed in Boston. come to think of it, remembering these teams - we have had some absolutely great baseball talent in Boston throughout the years.

As much as I wouldn't mind a trade for young somewhat proven pitching talent, I really would like to see Moncada and Benintendi stay in Boston.

I have to calm myself down quite a bit with respect to these prospects. Even so, Moncada and Benintendi really look special. It also is looking like they are starting to address future pitching needs. They need to. when Roger broke onto the scene it was so unique for a Red Sox fan. A rookie pitcher who was big strong and looked like he was destined to just be great. Even when he got hurt early on, you could see that he had the potential to be great. It is and always has been about the pitching.

thanks for that. I was pretty sure that it was 0 for 40ish. Still a very vivid memory for me. I think that he was on a couple of All-Star teams while with the Sox. Louis could run pretty much right up to the end as well. Obviously only the old guys here remember those teams of the late 60's and early 70's but they were good.

I was there just like you were Spud. I am not going to take the time drinking around to find the specifics but wasn't Louis something like 0 for 43? maybe worse. i don't remember there ever being anyone who ever suggested that he wasn't still one of the best defensive ss in the game right up until the end. Much like the catching position, ss was always one of those positions that if you could find one who kid could hit just a little to go along with the fielding you were damn lucky. Players like Ernie Banks didn't come around everyday. I loved those white Sox teams of the late 50's - Nellie Fox at second and my favorite Louis Apparichio at short. Maybe I liked him so much because I could always pick em I just couldn't hit the goddam thing.

I love the kid but I have been saying the very same thing for the past two seasons. I would like to see him pick up the pace with the bat in Pawtucket though.

I don't believe that their size (Petrocelli and Valentin) had anything to do with them moving to third. They might have been getting a little slower but basically as I recall two better shortstops just came along.

Moncada just picked up his 19th stolen base as well. I totally agree with your feelings about these 3. They really look like they could be very good.

I think that you are right but I don't think Swihart provides a solution to either of those potentials. If he provided an elite defensive ability in left maybe but still probably not. Better options are right behind him. I would be very surprised if they saw him as a serious candidate to play left field in Boston. His greatest value is as a catcher once he proves that he is able to field the position. Maybe in Boston and maybe not.

Makes no sense unless they really feel that they have a major hurt trying to come up with a future left fielder.
