  1. I've liked him more than I have liked Owens for a couple of years now. Just want him to be healthy and get a chance. If it is with us, even better.
  2. I have this album! Holds a special place right along beside Havlicek stole the ball.
  3. This I absolutely agree with. In all honesty, the best player I ever saw play was Willie Mays but Yaz had without one doubt in my mind the greatest single season that I ever saw. Pretty good career as well. lol
  4. Great post!
  5. Agree here - I'm just not sure that we have seen the best of Young just yet. I think that he can still be very valuable and as a 4th outfielder should not be looked at as a "backup".
  6. Are you trying to make a point about playing time for Young here? I was not really addressing that but I would give him ample opportunity as well - as a 4th outfielder. obviously with an emphasis toward lefties but unlike most I guess, he would just simply get a shot against anyone from me. Once again, using him every 3rd or 4th day and expecting him to blossom is asking too much. Plenty of at bats there for 4 outfielders.
  7. Too much lefty righty lefty righty lefty righty for me. too much platooning I guess for me as well. I would give Benintendi as well as Shaw all of the benefit that they could be given. No every other day - no herky jerky crap. They have to know that they are going to play. They have to be allowed to develop a rhythm to really find out what their potential is.
  8. I am with you on this one. Mauricio Dubon is having a great season. His current numbers put him at the head of the class for Portland. He is also very smooth in the field. He very well might have a great career.
  9. Ya ok - Let's see - guess this means that you must have expected the kid to come back after the rain delay. Happens all the time doesn't it. lol - Give this this young pitcher a chance. He looked good and was good.
  10. Glad it isn't my $ - but what the hell - it is the budget less Red Sox (lol)
  11. Are you responsible for all of this? You are the best! End of f***ing story. My new hero. I saw what you were able to do.
  12. I just read this - really! there is once again no credit given for being a fan and trying to follow the progress of our young players. it really isn't a contest but for you to even suggest that you knew something about Moncada before others did is ridiculous. I have had to defend my position with respect to him numerous times since March. I've said many times that he is a superior athlete to anyone we have or had in Benintendi's case. I'm sorry but you do try to present as being ahead of the game with respect to most of the people posting here. You aren't. Enjoy the forum and I do think that you add to it but some of the regular posters here are not just fans - they are damn good baseball people. If it has been said, written, or observed, someone here will know about it.
  13. This has nothing to do with someone being right or wrong to me. i honestly hope that Espinoza becomes the great pitcher that some think that he might become. I'm patient as well but my time frame is obviously different than yours. If Pomeranz is able to pitch to a mid rotation or even higher level for us, it is quite possible that he will be responsible for between 40 and 50 wins for us at the major league level before Espinoza throws a ball in the majors. In my opinion, it was a good deal today as well as going forward. I don't agree with you but I value your opinion and realize that there are supporting arguments for either side. I don't think that this will be the last time the Sox use their young prospects as assets either. We can debate how we should use them until the cows come home, but we aren't making the ultimate decisions.
  14. Got to have faith right?
  15. Pomeranz not getting any love here? really- I'm alone on my island!
  16. Surer than s*** that wrestling match wouldn't have lasted very long. billy was an ass kicker. He would have been hired back in a month!
  17. Once again - i really would like to know who decided on second base for him? Was it him? Maybe I'm being contrary but I don't think there was information to go on when that decision was made. it is all good . He is just a kid but if since he is so young and had experience at various positions, it does make me wonder - why the most blocked position that you could ask for with respect to Boston? i'm thinking that maybe people really did think that Sandoval was going to be here for a while. All that being said, it would not surprise me to see Moncada at first or in the outfield if he stays with us.
  18. Couple of things once again - Benintendi could become a good and maybe even a great player for us but he is not my idea of "freakish" in any way. Moncada is. Benintendi might be the better player overall but Moncada has "stuff" that puts him in the rarified air district. I'm not sure anyone contributing here knows what Moncada's natural position is or was. We know that in his home country he played in the outfield as well as the infield. Kind of sounds like based on what has been written that he sat down with management and they asked him what position he was most comfortable with. There are lots of people here who see him as our third baseman going forward. Maybe - maybe not. The only place it doesn't look like it could be is second base.
  19. he did have a good game!
  20. Don't mind being the one who says it - Nice job today by Pomeranz! he's a young mi-rotation guy with some upside. Happy to see him have another good outing. Last year I was excited by the Porcello signing and happy that an extension got done early. Have to say though that as things progressed, i took all of that Porcello love back and got on the "he is grossly overpaid" train. i'm pretty sorry about that these days. I'm really happy we have him with us.
  21. i think that if Swihart's greatest value to the Sox is as a catcher it would only be for trade purposes. He has the potential to be too good a hitter to sit daily as a backup catcher for Boston. Too many people are writing off too many players way too early. it is still conceivable that Swihart eventually winds up in our outfield. Moncada may as well. Lots of questions still to be answered going forward.
  22. Hearing what the scouts had to say and trying to read what was written about this kid was exciting and very interesting. Seeing him up close confirms everything said about his physical gifts. For 40 plus years i lied with respect to high school basketball programs. We all want them to be bigger and stronger than they are. This particular player looks like everything they said he was going to look like. He may not become a star but if he does, my guess is that power is not going to be an issue. My gut tells me that he will either be at third or in the outfield.
  23. You are probably right, you weren't clamoring for the Red Sox to get Moncada into another position. I was though. I think that it is great that they have a protocol that they like to follow and coming from the bb background he has come from, i understand what they were doing. I just didn't and haven't liked it. No one, repeat no one knows where this kid will wind up or what position he will play. Will he even play for us? Benintendi looks like he could be a very nice player for us but he is no beast Although it probably depends on what you use as a definition. Moncada on the other hand is a potential beast. Now I like Beni and he may turn out to be the better player but physically at this time it isn't even fair to compare him to Moncada.
  24. With Benintendi moving up, it was just a matter of a short time before Moncada was placed in a position where he could follow. it wasn't going to be as a second baseman.
