  1. Pomeranz not getting any love here? really- I'm alone on my island!
  2. Surer than s*** that wrestling match wouldn't have lasted very long. billy was an ass kicker. He would have been hired back in a month!
  3. Once again - i really would like to know who decided on second base for him? Was it him? Maybe I'm being contrary but I don't think there was information to go on when that decision was made. it is all good . He is just a kid but if since he is so young and had experience at various positions, it does make me wonder - why the most blocked position that you could ask for with respect to Boston? i'm thinking that maybe people really did think that Sandoval was going to be here for a while. All that being said, it would not surprise me to see Moncada at first or in the outfield if he stays with us.
  4. Couple of things once again - Benintendi could become a good and maybe even a great player for us but he is not my idea of "freakish" in any way. Moncada is. Benintendi might be the better player overall but Moncada has "stuff" that puts him in the rarified air district. I'm not sure anyone contributing here knows what Moncada's natural position is or was. We know that in his home country he played in the outfield as well as the infield. Kind of sounds like based on what has been written that he sat down with management and they asked him what position he was most comfortable with. There are lots of people here who see him as our third baseman going forward. Maybe - maybe not. The only place it doesn't look like it could be is second base.
  5. he did have a good game!
  6. Don't mind being the one who says it - Nice job today by Pomeranz! he's a young mi-rotation guy with some upside. Happy to see him have another good outing. Last year I was excited by the Porcello signing and happy that an extension got done early. Have to say though that as things progressed, i took all of that Porcello love back and got on the "he is grossly overpaid" train. i'm pretty sorry about that these days. I'm really happy we have him with us.
  7. i think that if Swihart's greatest value to the Sox is as a catcher it would only be for trade purposes. He has the potential to be too good a hitter to sit daily as a backup catcher for Boston. Too many people are writing off too many players way too early. it is still conceivable that Swihart eventually winds up in our outfield. Moncada may as well. Lots of questions still to be answered going forward.
  8. Hearing what the scouts had to say and trying to read what was written about this kid was exciting and very interesting. Seeing him up close confirms everything said about his physical gifts. For 40 plus years i lied with respect to high school basketball programs. We all want them to be bigger and stronger than they are. This particular player looks like everything they said he was going to look like. He may not become a star but if he does, my guess is that power is not going to be an issue. My gut tells me that he will either be at third or in the outfield.
  9. You are probably right, you weren't clamoring for the Red Sox to get Moncada into another position. I was though. I think that it is great that they have a protocol that they like to follow and coming from the bb background he has come from, i understand what they were doing. I just didn't and haven't liked it. No one, repeat no one knows where this kid will wind up or what position he will play. Will he even play for us? Benintendi looks like he could be a very nice player for us but he is no beast Although it probably depends on what you use as a definition. Moncada on the other hand is a potential beast. Now I like Beni and he may turn out to be the better player but physically at this time it isn't even fair to compare him to Moncada.
  10. With Benintendi moving up, it was just a matter of a short time before Moncada was placed in a position where he could follow. it wasn't going to be as a second baseman.
  11. I tend to agree with much of what you say here. i also agree with you about Williams. Although I do think that he would have been able to adjust to much of the ******** that goes along with the job today. People have different ideas about what an "iron fist" means. Most athletes truly want to win. The good ones know that being disciplined with respect to what you do is very important. A manager who truly knows what they are doing who is also fair and can backup his ideas and feelings can still be very tough. Intensity, grittiness, motivation, work ethic, and not being afraid to call a fool a fool no matter how good they might be just what this team needs. i'm not sure what John Farrell is.
  12. I agree - I'm not sure where it will take him, but I've been paying attention since '62 and I would be hard pressed to come up with anybody who has ever been in a Sox uniform with this kid's athletic skills.
  13. They are soft. Their toughest guy is 4'8" tall. They are young and fun to watch but they need a couple of guys who would be willing to pay a fine and not say I'm sorry for running over somebody. Also one pitcher who no one wants to face.
  14. Re-read what i posted. Not his job to make them successful. His job is to put them in positions so that they have the greatest chance to succeed. I don't mind being quoted but please be accurate. I'm not sure that Farrell is any worse than average but your post is a joke.
  15. I won't get into any kind of arguement with you over this . Ain't worth it. Eliminate his first start and what do you get for an era. Probably though that is when era becomes an insignificant stat. Give it a spin, test and contort it. He is mid rotation .
  16. My last comment about John Farrell is that a good coach puts players where they have the greatest chance to perform successfully. I do not think that he does this on a regular basis. Kind of like he tends to throw them out there in peculiar positions and situations and times hopes that they will surprise us all. Not happening very often. Regardless of what anybody thinks Wright should have been able to do as a pinch runner it was an absolutely stupid move. Color it anyway you want to - color comes out stupid everytime. Does it merit being fired - no - the interim guy is and has been his right hand man.
  17. Anybody who thinks Pomeranz sucks is full of ********. He is a mid rotation guy signed as a mid rotation guy. He has lived up to his reputation. Is he soft? Sure - I think so. but what the hell - Anybody who knows anything new what we were getting. Is there an upside with him - of course. But - yeah he sucks because the pigpen can't get the f***ing job done. Get over your Espinoza man crush and give this kid a chance. Maybe in 5 years when Espinoza is just lights out and on the loose DD will bring him back.
  18. I'm fairly ambivalent with how I feel about Farrell in general. He gets too much blame when things don't work out and certainly next to no credit when they do. I have a really hard time not being critical of this move. Argueably our best pitcher who doesn't really look all that athletic. Why? can't defend this one. The only answer looks like it might be why not and that really isn't good enough. His bench coach should be fired.
  19. trust me no one sits beside a manager for this long without communicating with him. His job is to talk and suggest. If you think that Farrell is blocking out the voice of his "bench coach" then good for you. I don't pretend to have any idea what will happen long term but personally I would like to see them go outside of the organization if they decide to make a change. I was opposed to signing him long term as a bench coach. Kind of does look at first that if they decide to let Farrell go then Lovullo will get the job. I'm sure that some will be happy. Farrell and Lovullo appear to be on the same page.
  20. I wonder what Lovullo has been doing thoughout the course of Farrell's moves?
  21. Unless there is an injury or a trade, i would doubt that the Sox put Swihart behind the plate again.
  22. really? I know I'm missing something here. I hope that he has a great career for us for sure. what am I missing?
  23. he needs to catch more too. he really isn't superior to Leon in any phase of the game right now. Maybe someday but not now.
  24. You might be right with respect to Leon. You might not be. It is also a fair possibility that Vazquez never becomes the catcher and player that some think he should. I like Leon's chances right now better than I do Vazquez's. He is performing at a level that is unfamiliar to Vazquez. Obviously Leon is hitting at a level that is unfamiliar to him. i'm enjoying it.
  25. Same goes probably for any number of players and prospects that we have. Judged by the return. The days of hoarding prospects in a rainy day fund and trying to trade them after they get injured might be over. i hope.
