  1. I love the reasons Porcello gives for not pitching in the WBC next year. Hopefully he does not get talked into it. It is pretty obvious from his comments that he understands the physical and mental too doing what he does demands. His loyalty is right where it belongs with the Boston Red Sox. Hope Price follows suit.
  2. I like this and I agree with it. Maybe that's why I like it. Personally there is no question in my mind that Trout was the the best player this year perhaps in all of baseball. That being said, I also think that David Ortiz was the most valuable player. Take him out of the Boston lineup for any extended period of time, this team does not win the east. Take Mookie out - I don't know. Still, Mookie is one helluva player!
  3. there has been some chatter about Sonny as well - it seems likely that something must have been wrong with him. He went from basically a clout to an out in a very short period of time. DD knows something about pitchers it seems. It should be interesting.
  4. i really don't think this would get it done. Bradley would have to be in there and I'm thinking that right now we are not so bad off. I would not give up Pomeranz. Now if we still had Espinoza and we could stuff him in there in Pomeranz's place - then maybe(lol-wink - wink).
  5. Yes that might be true but that scenario is as likely to happen as pigs flying . For the record, if Moncada was the primary in a package to get us a "Sale like" starter, I would do the deal yesterday - today- and tomorrow.
  6. yeah well let's see - If DD sticks with his current plan, I wasn't great math student, but it seems to me that trying to make an outfielder out of Moncada at this time might be a waste of time. He would have to stand in line to get at bats.
  7. The crow I'm eating this morning really doesn't taste all that badly. Congratulations Rick Porcello!
  8. Porcello - Verlander - Scherzer - Thank you Dave Dombrowski.
  9. Would all of the rest of you who were in favor of the Porcello extension please stand up here. I was not one of them but there quite a few others.
  10. I would hate to see Swihart go, but I also think that without the injury he might have already been traded. Beltran is beginning to draw some real interest from a number of teams. Ultimately, I think he gets paid a lot by someone. I'm not sure how much of a bidding war DD wants to get into for him. I still think and hope that they sign a dh and don't try to massage the pieces together from within.
  11. In Butterfield's case, if the players can be believed, he seems to be about as good as there is with respect to teaching all things infield related.
  12. Aint that the truth. lots of jabber out there about the braves, dodgers, and tigers. Not a lot from bosox land.
  13. No doubt in my mind that he isn't a .320 hitter going forward and I will not argue statistics with people who people who care a lot more about them then I do. I am just saying that Vazquez really has shown very little with respect to hitting improvement. Leon has shown some growth. Any suggestion that Vazquez is going to improve to the point that he will pass Leon is simply an opinion based on nothing tangible. He may he may not. I would always take the "bird in the hand". Understand though that this opinion comes from a guy who still thinks that batting averages, rbi's, pitcher's win loss records, and stolen bases are still meaningful statistics.
  14. I'm not being sarcastic or snarky(as the kids would say) - I'm just curious. Why not Leon? He is a year older than Vazquez, starting to mature possibly as a decent hitting catcher and defensively there really is extremely little if any difference at all between Vazquez and him. I think that his window to improve is basically as great as either of the other two. Personally, at the present time for sure, he would be the one I would least like to see moved. If either of the other two become more valuable as a catcher, my money would be on Swihart simply because of his potential hitting upside .
  15. Should we try to Pedroia him? (Can't help it)
  16. More than one space? (sorry - told myself that I wouldn't do that anymore)
  17. What are you basing your judgement on? I don't get this one. The only difference that I see between Vazquez and Leon is that Leon seems to be developing into a better hitter. They both are very good defenders - Which will be the better hitter? At this point in time - Leon. I don't think that anyone expects Leon to hit the way he did this year but based on the info we have to deal with he looks like the better bet to hit going forward. We are lucky to have two good young defenders but if I had to bet on which one starts going forward - Leon.
  18. I agree
  19. so true!
  20. I pretty much totally agree with this. In my strange way, I'm saying that they could potentially be the same guy. For most us, the catching position does not look like an issue at present but it sure could be going forward. We may have two catchers battling for a starting job who ultimately wind up being backups. With respect to the team in general, the catching position is just one other spot that does not look as though there is definite clarity. We still don't really know what we have!
  21. Poor choice of words perhaps in using "stretch" but I would say that it would also not be a stretch to assume that Leon continues to improve as well. What do Leon's numbers say about him? I hope that Vazquez does become a statistically elite catcher.
  22. Thanks for posting this. I kind of suspected as much just based on watching them catch. Roughly a years difference in age and the better catcher in all respects is Sandy Leon. Does not surprise me. I am happy that we have them both but even the suggestion that Vazquez might suddenly become a better catcher is a stretch. If they both hit .220, Sandy would likely still get the nod.
  23. I don't know what will become of JBJ this off-season but if anybody thinks that he might hit as low as .220 I agree that they would be dead wrong.
  24. forgot about Holaday. 5 pretty capable backstops none of which is an All-Star. Leon has to be the front runner. I'm just not sure that the front office is sold on either one of them being anything extra special going forward. We will just have to wait and see. Swihart is definitely back in the mix.
  25. Is that what they are trying to do? I have heard nothing at all that makes me think that they are currently trying to actively trade anybody for anybody.
