  1. I have used that expression many times myself. We went from last place to first place. it was a great season. I think that we are definitely heading in the right direction.
  2. Shaw - Moncada (possibly sooner than we think) - Sandoval (you never know) Worst case scenario you have have Holt to back up Shaw once again. Might look like a weakness but only because the rest of the team looks so strong.
  3. Honestly - what made me think that he just couldn't hit a lick?
  4. My memory has failed me. But - I'm still very pleased with guy we have there now.
  5. Managers are often given way too much credit when their team's win and certainly too much blame when they lose. The good ones take responsibility for the losses and give all the credit to their players with respect to the wins. Farrell makes the cut.
  6. My speculation is that the Sox see replacing Papi's bat as a priority. I do not think that dealing with the situation from within is really what they want to do. i also speculate that signing a bat will not impact what they decide to do about their pitching in general at all. Not one bit. John Henry truly knows that when he sells the club he will make more money than is even imaginable. He is meeting his payroll and doing pretty well I think. The third base situation will quite probably play itself out and become a positive for us going forward.
  7. "iggy" is gone basically because he could not seem to hit at all. Great glove - 0 hit. I hope that he has a great career but Mark Belanger he was not. We are far better off as is!
  8. I think that I might look at things differently if third wasn't the only place on the field that they look a little weak. I am willing to look beyond what the stats say about where Shaw and company ranks. 16 H/runs from him plus a decent RBI total to go along with a decent job done in the field. With 3 guys vying for the position, I don't see why anyone would view it as a situation so urgent that it takes priority over anything else.
  9. I think that if a trade occurs that involves one of our outfielders than you look to replace him. I would do nothing with respect to third base. Rather than sign someone for even a year, I would take a chance that between Shaw, Sandoval, and Moncada the job will get done. I don't see any urgency with respect to third base.
  10. great post thank you!!!
  11. i like your style. I might not always agree with you but the direction works for me. As a fan, I am not overly concerned about what we might be like in 5 or 6 years. Maybe just a little - but not much. I am much more concerned about what we will be like next year. People building the program obviously have to be concerned about the future. They have to be as concerned about their 6th graders as they are about their seniors if you know what I mean. I am more concerned about the varsity. i'm not coaching anymore.
  12. The cubs can KMA to the proverbial key of G! Go dodgers!
  13. Aparichio was just a great baseball player. All s/stops should be glove first. Luis Aparichio and Nellie Fox - didn't get much better than those two.
  14. 1967 - last out of regular season - pop fly caught by Rico our shortstop
  15. I really hope that I don't have to quantify much ever. Works for me to just say what I know to be true for me. (and possibly the players I coached over the course of 40 years)
  16. And the good ones might even tell you that it doesn't matter.
  17. That clears things up a bit. It still is anyone's guess on here who truly thinks that the h/field gives anyone a monstrous advantage. it is an advantage plain and simple. I do wonder how important the actual players view it to be though. It is just a guess but I bet they far prefer to play at home as opposed to going on the road.
  18. Worth consideration I guess. You like Frazier. i'm not sold on him providing much of an upgrade. These are the types of questions though that DD is going to have to sort through if a deal gets done with anybody. You have to give to get for sure. I do think though that the Red Sox should deal from strength this time around. it is still possible that our core of starting pitchers can be more than just adequate. I also think that this if the organization goes after a hitter than a trade for a pitcher will get done. Can you imagine the outcry from Red Sox Nation if EE was signed and there was no significant pitching upgrade made. It would be brutal!
  19. I'm with you here. it would all depend on what the dream scenario was.
  20. If has been discussed here, I sure as hell have missed it. I'm sure that you would agree that when people start "suggesting" what others are thinking based on nothing that character assassination follows. We have been down this road unfortunately before with Hanley. Bogaerts name has even been recently been brought up because of his response (i guess) at being moved from short to third - what - 2 years ago. Over the past 2 years this kid has done nothing but work his ass off to be as good as he can become. Even bringing up that tired old story is flat out ********.
  21. Right here -
  22. maybe there is more than one. it worked for George Foreman! Clayton#1 Clayton#2 Clayton#3
  23. this i get - it is your personal opinion.
  24. Where did you read or hear anything about Kimbrel being upset about anything other than his own performance?
  25. Thank you. If I thought that signing a player like EE to a contract in any way would hurt our chances of improving our pitching I would oppose it.
