  1. I believe this and have. if Sandoval comes back healthy and well, we might be better offensively ultimately and there is no question that from a front line pitching perspective we really are in very good shape. I'm pretty sure that some of my nervous feeling about the offense comes from taking Papi out of the middle of that lineup. I really have gotten used to having him there. I think that we will all miss him but the Mooreland pickup could turn out to be a really good one.
  2. I think that that pretty much makes all of us (maybe not quite but close).
  3. I hope it works out for both of them. I hope that the Mooreland pickup helps out which I think it should. Sandoval becomes a very important player all of a sudden. He is still a young man. We shall see. Obviously I have a lot of faith in our GM and his win now and for the foreseeable future (3-5) for me. He has added a number of experienced young veterans just entering their prime years.
  4. taking that production out of the lineup is a concern with respect to our offense to me.
  5. but it just as easily might.
  6. I don't think that they are planning to go in this direction but I think that it would be worth a try.
  7. Hope you are right. if you were trying to sell me something, with this reasoning I would not buy it though. obviously I feel a little differently than most do about Shaw. You might certainly cut into the production that both Papi and Shaw gave us but I would be beyond pleased and surprised if they match it.
  8. I don't think that Bautista is the answer at all but the number of runs they scored last year doesn't paint the whole picture. When you score the runs matters quite a bit as well. You lose Shaw and Papi, you lose 50 + hr's and how many rbi's? I get the fact that we have strengthened the pitching. I hope it is enough.
  9. this is a good post. Accurate too. What I would also say is that as hard as it is to say good bye (at least for now) to Espinoza, Kopech, Moncada, is that as good as they look - they are still prospects. I would love to see them become good ml performers but who knows. I hope that the tradeoffs prove to worth it. if they do, we are all in for a great future.
  10. I understand perfectly what you mean and I don't really care about the terminology either. I'm guilty of spying many things that might seem a little over the top to prove a point as well. Gutting the farm to me means that there is 0 left and that is not the case. We lost some really good prospects but we'll probably still field some pretty good minor league teams. I don't need to defend DD - I'm not even "over the top" wired about his moves to date. What I like about most of them is that he has added players - good players- who are entering their prime years. If you can move prospects for players like this, I think that is great - Pomeranz included.
  11. I don't see it happening but I do think that adding one more real power bat would help. For the record, I am not interested in seeing how many runs we scored last year again. I am much more interested in where we find the 50 plus home runs and the rbi's that go with them come from this year. Not last year - last year=old news.
  12. I'm with you on this one as I am most of the time. the expression "gutting the farm" has been used by a number of people here. Whatever works I guess. I see it differently. We have added some players who are absolutely in their primes and we have given up some damn good prospects that would have been fun to watch develop. Without the deal for Sale, The Red Sox quite likely would have been very competitive next year. With the deal, they have established themselves as one of the team's to beat. For me, it is kind of lie the Celtics. Fun to watch, competitive for sure, but certainly not winning the big one and it won't matter how many young prospects get added. If our current moves looked to be a one year and done deal, I would be a lot more concerned. They don't so I am going to sit back and enjoy the next three years.
  13. A shadow lurker.
  14. You are a careful reader!
  15. I was out for awhile! s*** - now it is even difficult to rely on now simple can of whoop ass. time for my nap I guess.
  16. Oh Kimmi - I would take Dan Marino over my boy Eli Manning (non hall of famer regardless of the Super Bowl wins ) any day.
  17. Not only has he been a GM for decades - he has been a very successful one. I'm not 100% sure I like the fact that we lost Kopech and Moncada but the return ain't bad. DD has been there done it and all that other stuff. He knows more certainly about his job than I do. Although he might suffer constant attack from those on here who know more than he does about building and sustaining winning programs -lol-, I like his time frame for success very much. Just guessing that his boss must approve as well.
  18. Seriously now - the problem that wasn't that so many people thought was now is. Third base - Holt and Hernandez are not third basemen. They very well might get it down for a game or two at a time but they aren't solutions for a season in any way at third base. We better keep banging the Sandoval drum and hope for the best. Lets go Devers! I think taking Ortiz out of this lineup will hurt the offense more than we know.
  19. What did I miss? Who is going to war? What about all that other stuff with the letters we added? obip pis wol bhip don't forget the whoop ass in a can either. plus don't forget all those other abbreviations that mean so much to true talent evaluators.
  20. I should have said that it does impact our future - we have a real chance of being the best team on the field for a few years - works for me.
  21. I'm still kind of digesting the trade but I sure as hell don't see it as making a huge impact on the future of this franchise. Of course the word future has a different meaning for different people. My future extends about 1-5 years. So much can change in that time period. DD has a history of success that I like. I' will miss not seeing the prospects traded developing up close but I like the fact that that we are legit for the immediate future.
  22. their adamant reluctance to trade Devers says a couple of things to me. 1. too much to give up 2. They like Devers for third base in the future - takes care of future need oh ya - once again - Holt and Hernandez are not third basemen. they might fill a hole for a few games but that is about it.
  23. Hey - Where have you been? Good to have you back. DD has a rumpled look to him. Maybe that is why I like hm.
  24. Money really isn't much good if you don't use it. Whatever floats your boat I guess but that is a fact. Many of the most wealthy people on the planet had the nuts to go out on many limbs taking many chances. John Henry is a very fortunate businessman for sure to have so many people worrying for him with respect to how much money he has and how much he can spend. Most of us have to face the tax man for sure. I honestly believe that we have people here on talksox who are more concerned with our beloved Red Sox payroll than our owner is.
  25. Played golf today with a guy from Toronto who is so disgusted that he wanted to trade Happ for farrell with one little catch. We had to take gibbons. Things could be worse I guess.
