  1. i like your style. I might not always agree with you but the direction works for me. As a fan, I am not overly concerned about what we might be like in 5 or 6 years. Maybe just a little - but not much. I am much more concerned about what we will be like next year. People building the program obviously have to be concerned about the future. They have to be as concerned about their 6th graders as they are about their seniors if you know what I mean. I am more concerned about the varsity. i'm not coaching anymore.
  2. The cubs can KMA to the proverbial key of G! Go dodgers!
  3. Aparichio was just a great baseball player. All s/stops should be glove first. Luis Aparichio and Nellie Fox - didn't get much better than those two.
  4. 1967 - last out of regular season - pop fly caught by Rico our shortstop
  5. I really hope that I don't have to quantify much ever. Works for me to just say what I know to be true for me. (and possibly the players I coached over the course of 40 years)
  6. And the good ones might even tell you that it doesn't matter.
  7. That clears things up a bit. It still is anyone's guess on here who truly thinks that the h/field gives anyone a monstrous advantage. it is an advantage plain and simple. I do wonder how important the actual players view it to be though. It is just a guess but I bet they far prefer to play at home as opposed to going on the road.
  8. Worth consideration I guess. You like Frazier. i'm not sold on him providing much of an upgrade. These are the types of questions though that DD is going to have to sort through if a deal gets done with anybody. You have to give to get for sure. I do think though that the Red Sox should deal from strength this time around. it is still possible that our core of starting pitchers can be more than just adequate. I also think that this if the organization goes after a hitter than a trade for a pitcher will get done. Can you imagine the outcry from Red Sox Nation if EE was signed and there was no significant pitching upgrade made. It would be brutal!
  9. I'm with you here. it would all depend on what the dream scenario was.
  10. If has been discussed here, I sure as hell have missed it. I'm sure that you would agree that when people start "suggesting" what others are thinking based on nothing that character assassination follows. We have been down this road unfortunately before with Hanley. Bogaerts name has even been recently been brought up because of his response (i guess) at being moved from short to third - what - 2 years ago. Over the past 2 years this kid has done nothing but work his ass off to be as good as he can become. Even bringing up that tired old story is flat out ********.
  11. Right here -
  12. maybe there is more than one. it worked for George Foreman! Clayton#1 Clayton#2 Clayton#3
  13. this i get - it is your personal opinion.
  14. Where did you read or hear anything about Kimbrel being upset about anything other than his own performance?
  15. Thank you. If I thought that signing a player like EE to a contract in any way would hurt our chances of improving our pitching I would oppose it.
  16. You are suggesting that the White Sox would do deal this deal straight up for JBJ? Once again, people are getting pidgeon holed here. Very very few people have said on this board that they would not be in favor of trade to upgrade our pitching. Betts really seems to be the only one that people feel is untradeable.
  17. OK so you are quite clearly stating that even though we are going to have to trade for a TOTRS this year if we want one, it makes no sense to sign a player of EE's potential bat to replace Ortiz.
  18. My point is that anyone who thinks that we should sign a real hitter to replace Ortiz, does not necessarily think that it has to be done at the expense of missing an opportunity to sign the very best TOTP that we can find.
  19. Who doesn't ?
  20. Wait - seriously - Math problem = If you have 4 Clayton Kershaws on your team? Say again - all Clayton Kershaws - and one Clayton Kershaw gets injured- How many do you have left? I get 0 left - I was a History teacher though. There was never a really correct answer . Just more questions.
  21. i'm on board with this one. But what happens if your Clayton Kershaw gets injured?
  22. Did you read somewhere that Kimbrel said that he would ask for a trade if the Sox were to pick up Chapman? I could have missed it I guess. I haven't heard or read about the sox even asking about Chapman.
  23. Don't fall into the trap. This isn't about anyone suggesting that pitching should be sacrificed for hitting. Pitching/defense- we all get it. If it was an either or situation, most of us (all of us) would go for the pitching. Many here are of the belief that the Red Sox can have both not just one. What is more important? Is that the real question? Pitching is! So - should the Red Sox use every asset they have to acquire pitching? How much is out there that can be acquired? Personally, I believe in having a balance.
  24. With respect to Encarnarcion - Hanley won't get to his level of power production. EE = our dh Hanley = first base next year
  25. I heard this on one talk show. I wrote it off as just another dufous trying to sell their show by stirring up some controversy. My opinion is that I (we - being careful here) would be better off with a lot less media.
