  1. I think you are right. It is entirely possible that third base becomes a position of strength for us before the 2017 season is over.
  2. Absolute truth. I really would like to see a big bat. As time has gone along , it does look less likely that it might be EE but I do think that they need to bring someone in. I'm still not all that concerned about third base. First of all, I still think that Shaw might be more than adequate if not for the long haul then certainly as a stopgap. I'm not sure that we need to add anything other than relief arms but if we should really get serious about a Sale type, I would not under any circumstances trade Moncada. We still don't know what we have there. He has to be given some time. His physical skills according to anyone who has ever seen him are unmatched. At the same age, he has been called a bigger version than Trout. His potential is unlimited and it would be foolish to let him go for anyone in a trade before we know what we actually have.
  3. I have had very close experiences with both cancer (which I consider to be a disease) and eating disorders(which I do consider to be addictions or disorders of sorts). I agree very much with you and it is safe to say that I am a fairly sensitive person. My opinion and once again it is just my opinion - I do not think that Sandoval suffers from what I would call an addiction. He exercises too little and eats way too much. He is 30 - end of story.
  4. ty my friend - for the record, I obviously am with you when it comes to Sandoval. Before he gets much tlc in New England he needs to earn his way. If in the eyes of some, we are judged to be a little different because of the way we treat many pampered professional athletes, I am sure glad that I am for the northeast. What I really believe is that there isn't a whole lot of difference between the fan bases of any really successful franchises. I will say that we have been spoiled by the athletic successes many of our teams enjoy on a yearly basis. On my way to Florida.
  5. didn't have my glasses sorry about that. i think that i see things quite clearly with respect to where you are coming from now. you probably are right about me not being very sharp or even very perceptive.
  6. No not really. i just did to you what people in that world tend to do to others. I'll work on that obtrusiveness thing for you whatever it might mean.
  7. For the record - I do not like the condescension. I obviously have much more respect for the intelligence of the average 10 year old than you do. Do you know that Sandoval has an eating disorder? I don't. If he does, I assure you that the Red Sox would support him if he were to seek treatment. It does not change the fact that even mentioning the two situations in the same piece of writing is beyond ridiculous. Understand please that this is just my opinion and I do not live in a politically correct world.
  8. You are his interpreter right?
  9. I'm pretty sure I know full well the point that he was trying to make but I don't know him. I am not his interpreter. There have been a number of comments made in this thread that are simply just opinions that people have. Generalizations and stereotypes for the most part. I stay away from those normally and think that it is important to question those that make them.
  10. m.mlb.com/video/v1214127083/callis-believes-moncada-is-next-big-leaguer Just thought I would throw this in for kicks. Show me don't tell me but this guy almost makes me second guess the theory. He might be worth hanging on to.
  11. So a great logical arguement you two have going here and it has cleared things up for this simple fan. Using your logic, I ask myself, if one of these guys was on your roster - which could you more easily survive the loss of? I'm fine with Eddie - no trade required.
  12. Great stuff - kind of a neat article although it does tend to give new meaning to the word hindsight. Just not sure that most New Englanders really identify with the Puritans and Mass. bay colony.
  13. I really doubt that E-Rod surpasses Sale as the better pitcher but I still would not do this deal. I think that this team could be fine without the type of upgrade that he might provide. I think that we would be giving up too much. Some absolutely proven talent and a pretty good sized heap of some right on the doorstep. If chicago truly wants what we have, I bet that they will let us know. We are dealing from strength and have no need to grovel.
  14. came from down your way in the 17th century!!! has a lot in common with that big sign in our state that says - if you don't like us leave and on your way out the door don't let it hit you where the good lord split you. New England is different - I love it.
  15. Dojji please must we revisit Salem again?
  16. I am right in assuming that you are not comparing Sandoval's situation to that of John Lester's right?
  17. Oh baby - Is this a shot fired across the bow of hard working fun loving New England fans everywhere? It is in fact a huge generalization I think to suggest that fans elsewhere are "more likely to mindfully seek solutions to the performance problem" then us rubes up here in the sticks. My guess = fans are fans. The loudest most obnoxious fan bases seem to exist where the teams perform the best. So if the tradeoff is to be passive refined and respectfully quiet while cheering for a loser, I remain happy to be a New England fan from New England. Now you see, we tend to be very sensitive as well.
  18. And I would like also to add my name to the list of people who care 0 for the feelings of Pablo Sandoval. He signed the contract -guaranteed- knew perfectly well where he was going - has not to date gotten the job done. Many of us, myself included, act as though New England is the only place in the world of athletics where players are actually held accountable. From a news media perspective, maybe it is tougher, I don't know. My advice would be to not watch NESN and don't read the papers while you are in town if you are that sensitive. My experience tells me that if you are a good person and work hard and at least act like you care, you will be appreciated.
  19. I should have been - Me and "Give em hell Harry" - Most people would say that I would sooner be from Misery than Missouri.
  20. In Sam Travis's case, it might be worthwhile to wait and see how he does going forward. The report also mentioned the possibility of him being an everyday first baseman hitting between .270 and .280 while also being an 18 to 20 HR guy. I like those numbers. I'm very willing to actually wait and see how any of our prospects develop after actually playing at the ml level. I have been fooled way to often by placing too much belief in reports made about these kids before they have done anything. Show me don't tell works very well for me.
  21. I know nothing about Vogelbach and a little about Travis. Travis is a prospect. You have to remain skeptical regardless of the name. I remain skeptical of them all until they have actually done something. Really doesn't matter much to me what the data or the scouts say until I have to see them do something and earn their way. The really good ones do.
  22. You know, anything could happen. I'm not sold on Hanley being a great dh moving forward. I think that we might wind up doing better than him. I have no problem with a hired gun. It is possible that a player like Travis needs more time and it is also possible. that he becomes an outstanding hitter as early as this spring. Some make it and some don't. Nonetheless it will be very interesting to see how things play out.
  23. I don't think that they have intentions of making a third baseman out of him. One of the reasons I like him is that when you read what is written and listen to what is said, guys like this sometimes get lost in the shuffle. So much excitement over other young players and along comes a player like this kid. There is nothing about his hitting that says he might not hit as well and possibly outhit any of our young prospects. Read the reports and after you read about all of the things that he can't do the focus turns to the fact that he has been a solid player at every level and much like Benintendi, he has hit!
  24. That is why I am guessing that the only trade talk that I have even heard at all seems to be coming from talksox. It just passes the time and gives us something to think about. I really think that DD gets it. We have no way of knowing how most of these guys will develop. No one does. He has to use all the available data and then roll the dice. All of the scouts and all of the data still doesn't guarantee anything. I'm hoping that if we do trade that it is from a very powerful position. Sure - we could be stronger in certain areas but in all actuality our weak areas really aren't that week.
  25. Kind of sounds like another guy who is now penciled in by many as our starting left fielder for years to come. Sam Travis is not glamorous - he just hits. He will have a hard time breaking in with the current version of the BRS but it could ultimately be their loss.
