  1. We will see how he performs but it is highly unlikely in my opinion that Vazquez outhits him. Leon is every bit as good a catcher as Vazquez.
  2. When did you learn this? Am I just so naive or are you just so far ahead o the curve notin? What you have said here is that if Rutledge and Holt are kept and Hernandez is sent down, it is primarily because he has shown only that he can hit minor league pitching. That is ********! He is a better baseball player than either of these two and deserves to be on the team.
  3. Really --- what the hell is wrong with Leon? Do you all really think that he will just suck? I don't. I see him as the better of the two catchers - Vazquez and Leon- going forward. There is nothing that Vazquez has done or might do that puts him ahead of Leon. There is a years difference between the two catchers for Christ's sake. Leon is better than Vazquez and will continue to be better than Vazquez. The unknown is Swihart. Before I would ever consider a trade of Leon, I would have to have a guy ready step in to his place that was his equal if not better. That could be Swihart but it is very doubtful that it would ever be Vazquez.
  4. I might actually understand what you are trying to say here and I might actually agree with you.
  5. What makes you think that Leon's time is "obviously limited"? Even though I eventually think that it is likely that the job goes to Swihart down the road, at this point in time, I don't see much of a debate here. Others will have to outplay him to dislodge him from the starter's role. Leon is a very good defensive catcher who just might surprise us again.
  6. Malzone's .270 came long before the mound was changed to help hitters. he was my favorite player for years.
  7. If they use anyone other than Holt on occasion, I would think that it would likely mean a call up for Sam Travis. My guess is that they will do everything that they can do to keep Swihart behind the plate.
  8. The beauty of this whole debate is that you can. It would be kind of like me trying to tell you what constitutes a clutch moment. Thanks but no thanks right.
  9. Wrap that crow in bacon. You will be able to choke it down. Everything is better wrapped in bacon.
  10. I think that eventually - maybe not even until next year - Travis will get his chance. Once he comes up, I think that he will stay and be a productive hitter for quite some time.
  11. That clears things up for me!!! One last question though - Is it possible to be one of the greatest clutch athletes (Nicklaus) and also one of the greatest chokers of all time? (Nicklaus once again)
  12. Its that damn depth thing coming back to bite me again.
  13. choking is clearly just a random occasion of someone not getting the job done every now and then
  14. Seriously? You trying to be serious? Come on. Fool's errand? When the hell did he pitch 2 good innings? I'll probably still be posting a little even if Hernandez doesn't make the team and if Pomeranz is on the dl. If those two things happen, I still think that we will be ok. Seriously! - I don't see his contributions be they positive or the negative being anything of great consequence. Nothing worth getting too upset about anyway.
  15. Will he be 21 by then? lol lets go Padres! He will lead them to the promised land.
  16. No no Fisk - you just don't get! lol If you don't call this kid some crazy assed demeaning name it puts you in the slobbering society along with me and maybe one other person. If you aren't careful, people will start accusing you of thinking Hernandez should make the 25 man too.
  17. 3 slobberers maybe? Who was that 15 year old kid we traded away for him anyway? By the time he graduates to AAA, most of us slobberers will have already fallen over over the cliff!
  18. paralysis by analysis - I like how he looks out there.
  19. If Pom "comes through", he probably moves up the food chain. I can't believe how many people here already have him labelled as a stiff or loser. Yes - I know - you hated the trade from day one. If Pomeranz regains his health, he will continue to be a young talented pitcher.
  20. I'm glad to see somebody else feeling this way. There have been some nasty things said here about a kid who may very well turn out to be a good get for this team.
  21. I'm ok with that (not that it matters). If he had a better than good spring in all of the various phases of catching, I might not be. Leon is a good catcher. Still a young man and at least for the time being should be our number 1 in my opinion. With what we have in Leon and Vazquez, Swihart needs to show that he can catch at the big league level. He and we have time for that to happen.
  22. did I say that you were suggesting he be moved to third? Don't think I did. I disagree with your take on what constitutes a very good ss. In my mind, he is one. One of the best -no. Very good- oh yah
  23. I don't think that Swihart has won the job at all. I think that he will eventually but he hasn't yet.
