  1. was that study paid for with my tax dollars?
  2. Gene Conley and Pumps Green! I remember them but I don't remember the incident.
  3. Mookie is unique for sure. if we win, i don't care where he hits. Honestly, i really don't care that much anyway. Currently I would still bat him third.
  4. 4th, 3rd, and 5th spots producing the big rbi's year after year. I think that is obvious where most think the rbi guys in the batting order should be hitting.
  5. i feel your pain
  6. I think you are right! Clearly the cess pool of the order regardless of what those playing have played as well as those who have coached might think. lol traditional nitwits be they all!
  7. But once again - it is ok if he hits 1st, 2nd, or 4th with you? I like him 3rd regardless of what you indicate that all studies show.
  8. I don't blame you at all. You are probably better off that way.
  9. You are not too old to be taught or to learn something new. We seem to be in a time where compromising doesn't happen often even in silly debate. You are either on one side or the other. Normally I don't even listen to people who claim to be right all of the time. Most of the time they aren't. Using all available data combined with the wisdom gained from experience then forming an opinion and a plan is the way to go for me. I probably will never let go of the things that I absolutely believe to be true but I'm always open to new ways of looking at things if they make a little common sense.
  10. Not sure that I agree that they could be clearly better. Better maybe though given time. they look pretty good right now. You come from our era then you know how hard it is to compare generational talent. Heaven forbid you ever get into an arguement about whether athletes today are better in general than those that came before. If these 3 stay together and man that outfield in Fenway for an extended time, they could represent the Rice, Lynn, and Evans of our day for kids growing up watching them now.
  11. Sorry about that - i misunderstood your post. got it now S5!
  12. People - fans - should do themselves a favor and read hayward's letter thanking the people of Utah and to the franchise in general. Refreshing to know that there are athletes like this out there and still coming to boston!
  13. I do not believe that Longhi is in our organization any more.
  14. i'm not sure what you are basing this statement on but whatever works for you. Putting people who are most likely to drive in more runs than their teammates in positions where they are most likely to have the opportunity to do so just makes sense to me.
  15. I worry about the forgetting piece every day. i just finished a book about the Battle of Okinawa. I don't want the sacrifices made by those who fought for the future of my family to ever be forgotten. I am a proud American - God Bless you veterans!
  16. and here comes gordon hayward folks - it's a shame no free agents want to play in boston! lol Now the games really do begin!
  17. Your ideas are great and needed you traditional, old school, old young guy. young in thought I'd say for sure.
  18. This isn't really an arguement I hope. i respect the fact that people have something tangible that they can point to to emphasize their ideas and thoughts. Now that being said - It is also possible that Betts could get fewer at bats and drive in more runs. It can work both ways. If it makes someone happy that they have statistical data to support their idea, good fro them. i believe that you can find statistical data to support most things that you really feel strongly about.
  19. I appreciate everything you are saying and the way that you are saying it. if this team is winning, I honestly don't care where JF has them hitting. As a player, i liked hitting first, second, and third. It was always explained to me why I was where I was. that helped.
  20. Porcello looked more to me like the real Porcello. The play by Pedroia was one of the better ones that I have seen!
  21. Me too -
  22. It isn't - as long as we win, makes no difference to me. Teams at all levels have experimented with putting players in different spots for many many years. I find it very amusing that it is ok for him (according to the stat studiers) that it would be appropriate for him to hit first, second, or fourth, but not third. I'm not arguing with you. I'm stating my opinion.
  23. Man - you guys are good - you got it right again! Wow - You stat studiers are just too good. Out with the old I say!
  24. Hopefully trading Longhi plus a few works out for us in the long haul. It was obviously a move with a look to the future.
  25. I don't know whether Betts is more comfortable hitting first as opposed to anywhere else in the batting order. Do you? If Betts has had a discussion with his coaches and has reasons for leading off, I think that personally I like him enough so that I would listen to him. In a vacuum, when considering all things that make hitters great - very much inclusive of power and the ability to drive in runs , I would prefer to have him hit third. Leading off with what some consider to be a team's best hitter is not really a new concept.
