  1. I get that. They are young. I'm just not into the projection of any kids today being any better than they are at the moment.
  2. Doesn't anyone want to play with Lebron?
  3. To date, DD has stayed away from all of the worthless one year rentals that have been discussed over and over here. Giving up any prospects for a rental third baseman just to fill a gap for a few months makes 0 sense. I cannot believe the amount of whining about the trades that he has made on here by people who support the idea of going out and trading any prospects to find a one year third baseman, or first baseman, or dh. DD's moves have been big moves for the most part with expectations at least of getting something substantial in return for what is given up. Once again - just my opinion. I'm glad he is in charge.
  4. this I agree with
  5. The killer Bees so to speak have really always been about potential. People have been projecting that Bogaerts was is going to become something that he has never been at the plate. As for Benintendi, who knows, hopefully he has a great ml career, but to project that he is going to better than some of the best who have ever been out there (comparisons to Yaz and Lynn) really? We need to be happy with what we have got in his case. JBJ is doing what JBJ has done since breaking in and it works for me. Betts is a little off but is it right to think that someone like him is going to have a career year every year he plays? I think that as a group they may not be under performing. What you see might be exactly what you are going to get.
  6. The option year, although can be important, it doesn't look to me as though it something that is going to take precedence over trying to make this team a better team in the eyes of DD. You need to play your best players. In this case, we get a chance to find out what Devers can do. It is surely worth the risk.
  7. I agree but nobody and I mean nobody could have predicted what he has done this year. Looking back, i guess I 'd say that signing Pablo and not just giving that job initially to Shaw is where the biggest mistake came. oh well - maybe Devers! We can hope.
  8. I'm not sure that I would call trading Shaw a blunder. It was a risk for sure not having a backup plan. But I'm thinking that it is safe to say that trading Shaw for an elite reliever might be considered by some (for sure not all) to have been a gamble worth taking. I like Shaw and would not have traded him. On this forum, trading him was not an unpopular move though.
  9. It is obviously not honesty but simply what your perspective is. I do not agree that this team should be better than what they are. If Thornburg and Smith were healthy and with us yes but from a hitting perspective not so much. Looking at this lineup realistically before the season many of us really questioned where the offense was going to come from. They are not all under performing.
  10. We really are in some mess. lol Are we still in first place? Many of us questioned the team not finding an adequate replacement for what we lost in Ortiz's bat but overall the only decision that really looks questionable at all is the failure to have a back up plan for Sandoval. We have an adult in charge of the asylum. it is all good.
  11. That would make some sense. I'm hoping that no one would tout anyone as being the next anyone until they had actually done something. Maybe some day Espinosa will be a good pitcher at the ml level but right now and for the foreseeable future I'm pretty happy that we have the guy we got in the trade. It was a good trade for us.
  12. Couldn't agree more! This team obviously isn't the White Sox of the late 50's but a good number of these guys better be willing to do what ever it takes to get runners into positions that they can score from.
  13. All non New Englanders need to know that once you cross Long Island Sound, you enter a new world - ours!.lol
  14. No one has suggested bunting to move runners over is something that should be done on any type of regular bases but when you are weak hitting good fielding little guy who has been so lucky as to get to the ml, then being able to do anything it takes to be useful might be what keeps you there. The Red Sox this season would have helped themselves on a number of occasions if they had been able to move a runner along here and there. Bat control is a skill that I would think I guess is still valued.
  15. glad you added that - I don't think that bunting to move runners along is ever going to be anyone's go to if the team is decent. That being said, I don't think that it is always bad strategy. There are times when it makes good sense to use the bunt. What surprises me a little is that with this team having so many guys that really resemble light hitters, is that their bat control isn't just a little bit better. Being able to successfully bunt, being able to make contact as opposed to striking out and being able to hit the ball "where they ain't" are things I guess I would expect most of them to be able to do when they need to.
  16. I really love the signings of Baynes and Morris. Tough to lose Bradley but overall their depth with respect to what they really need just got a lot deeper.
  17. I think that you are right. Along with being the best in the game, Sale just gives the impression of being a flat out tough winner. I wish that we had a few more positional players with the qualities that he has. We have a lot of good guys, having fun, and doing a good job. Nothing wrong with that, I just keep wondering how far they would go to win a game. Sale gets pissed and gives the impression that he expects to win every time he gets the ball and when he doesn't he takes the blame. They are a good team but something just isn't there and you might be right - David Ortiz.
  18. Yes I have. I can pretty easily separate the stolen base from trying to foolishly advance when no advancement should be tried on a base hit as well. IMO, when someone with good speed attempts to steal a base on a team filled with singles hitters, they are doing what they have to do to score. I haven't seen many of their baserunning blunders as being the result of advancing on steals.
  19. This to me is an interesting post. Growing up, baseball is what we all did. One of the reasons was because it really didn't cost much to play. Times have changed. When I'm in Boston, I'm always amazed at the number of people that are there with me as well as how much it cost to actually eat, sleep, and play there. It is sad and I think I know what you mean when you say that you feel betrayed by the sport sort of. It might ultimately be about the cost as opposed to the product being put on display.
  20. bunting not so much maybe but stealing bases seems to be at least getting them in to positions where our singles can bring some guys home.
  21. What 's up with this? Why are people not showing up in record numbers? Leading the way in the East but not filling the seats. Something is missing here and it isn't just the fans - any thoughts?
  22. The fact that no one else that we have comes close to being a solid number 3 hitter doesn't make it right that the only guy that resembles a number 3 hitter - Betts- is leading off. This team's lack of production makes the whole discussion about batting order really moot. Bring it up all you want to I guess even though with this bunch it is a little silly to do so.
  23. that is the truth!!!
  24. if the 3 year contract was signed as well
