c'mon - go with your gut. I'm hoping (maybe against hope) that Farrell's challenge was that jackson did not maintain possession of the ball when the fence got in his way. Think about the number of times you have seen players go into the stands to make plays either in fair of foul territory. Not talking Jeter here though. Doesn't make any difference where your ass is when you make that catch as long as you hang on to it. Gomes must have been dreaming about his football days.-lol

Although I am probably a bigger fan of DD's than yours, I appreciate very much that are valuing what he has and is trying to do. Being in his position in a Boston market, it is quite a balancing act. His job yearly is to put a team on the field that can compete at the highest level year in and year out. I haven't agreed with everything that he has or has not done, I still think that he has built a very competitive team without mortgaging the future. I am looking forward to a long successful run like we have had minus a few hiccups since 1967.

Actually, i really like Johnny Gomes and I loved what he brought to our team. He does have some good insights but he made me a little nervous last night when he wasn't sure about the ruling on Jackson's over the fence catch of Ramirez's drive. A little laugh for me on that one. I'm guessing that most of us who have played knew the ruling on that one. I still like him though.

I understand that. I should have been a little clearer. I'm not advocating any move up for Chavis. I would just hate to see a compact, rugged individual who can actually hit the ball hard be traded. My other point would be that I think it is kind of obvious that the age of these prospects gets too much attention by some who post here. If we have players who are over performing at the minor league level and there is room for them up here and they aren't teenagers, they are old enough to get a shot.

I agree with you. I haven't been to Portland this year but I was stunned at seeing the difference in size between ours and theirs last year. One of the reasons Moncada looked like such a monster, was the rest of the troops looked so small. I was really surprised at how small Benintendi looked.

Moving Devers up was the logical move. When any move is made, people get to think whatever they want about the need for or the reason for it. i guess if it works out, you get to call it a good move and if it doesn't, you get to call it whatever you like. it was the right move that showed some common sense in this case. if anything, it also tells me that we might have some others in our system that may be just as valuable to us as we move forward. i am not sold on the idea that any of our current position players are that much better than some of our guys still beating it around in the minors.

Or any of our other guys that are listed as 6'2" and above. is Ben responsible for drafting all of the little guys or was that Larry? couldn't have been Theo. Who drafted henry owens? he is a tall one anyway.

I will say seriously though that this is what we have become. Anything goes. Say what you want, do what you want, and expect to get what you want when you want it. No amount of pretending to be above it all by anyone is going to change things either. You can tweet, twit, or post anything that you want to anytime you want to. it is a whole new world. This is one of the reasons why I hate to see any changes to the game of baseball. i still think that some things are better left alone.

The under peformance of all of our guys is just killing me here though. That might seem just a little sarcastic i guess. I have contended for quite some time that although we might think that these boys are capable of more, this might actually be closer to who they are as a group. Nunez and Devers have certainly given our stagnant offense a lift. More power is still needed in this lineup.

The era of the new fan is upon us. Nothing is acceptable unless a championship is won. It was never like that for me. For many many years I had the feeling that we were going to compete. it takes so much more than just stockpiled talent to win a World Series. Of course I always that it was a lot tougher before the current expansion to the playoff contenders. This represents a dummying down of the significance of the regular season for me. It is all about the $ today as well as the instant gratification. I like the whole concept of fielding a team that can be competitive year in and year out. i hate the concept of watching 2.3, or whatever horrible seasons followed by a World Series win every now and then. If this were the way it was, I'm afraid that I would stop watching them. It is all about the hunt for me. A summer's worth of entertainment.
