  1. I was aware of the JBJ situation and of course now Price. Sounds like maybe you have heard that the disgruntlement is more widespread than just these two. What else have you heard?
  2. I have given this one some thought and I think that I am with you here. Initially I guess I saw this as a trade to really strengthen the bullpen - a weakness that needed to be addressed but when I look at this as possibly giving up on a player like Shaw I guess I agree. I really liked Shaw at third base for this team. He showed excellent power at the plate and a very strong arm at third. The general feeling of the people posting here was that based on his poor end of season performance he was expendable. I also liked the fact that he was a big athlete. I think we need some guys that at least look like imposing at the plate.
  3. For me I guess I have it figured out. It is about the choice of words. Words like panic and desparation do not apply here for me. I understand very well why people might not like the move but dissecting it with words that connote something really serious I guess confuses me. Maybe a lack of patience but not panic to me anyway. But you see I have also read that many people think that with the deals that DD has made that he was all in for this season. I never saw it quite like that. I saw them as moves to strengthen our team. I understand the value of defense - it enabled me to play.lol I agree that we might be giving up something here on the defensive end but I really don't think in my world anyway anything was done that resembles panic or desperation. It's good I guess that we all don't see things the same way.
  4. Damn them all.
  5. And herein perhaps lies the rub. is this really a sign of changing times? Is this what happens when you load up a room with very rich, very young, entitled (in their minds) people? There continues to be something about this team that I just don't like in general.
  6. Come on SS - I understand why you might not be in favor of making this move right now but do you really think that this is a move that could in any way be considered panicky? I sure don't. I respect your opinion as always but a panic move?
  7. I know that you are right. I really just wish that I liked them a little more. There is just something missing here for me.
  8. I agree. A panic move would have been giving up prospects for a part time rental. Looks to me as though the big decision was to at least try to turn the third base position into something that might give us offensive production or staying the course with decent defense and next to no offense. I'm hoping that Devers will be adequate in the field. I'm pretty sure that he will give us more offense than we have ween to date at third but we shall soon see.
  9. I do think that he is elite. He would be the one that (imo) the big money should be spent on going forward. Personally I have been guilty of thinking that many of our players are better than what everyone else has. I've been very protective of them. I am beginning to think that most of our everyday players could be replaced. I'm not particularly attached to any of them.
  10. imo - a panic move would have been to give up any prospects for a one year rental third baseman with Devers sitting at the AAA level. This move makes sense based on team needs. I hope that it works out.
  11. I get that. They are young. I'm just not into the projection of any kids today being any better than they are at the moment.
  12. Doesn't anyone want to play with Lebron?
  13. To date, DD has stayed away from all of the worthless one year rentals that have been discussed over and over here. Giving up any prospects for a rental third baseman just to fill a gap for a few months makes 0 sense. I cannot believe the amount of whining about the trades that he has made on here by people who support the idea of going out and trading any prospects to find a one year third baseman, or first baseman, or dh. DD's moves have been big moves for the most part with expectations at least of getting something substantial in return for what is given up. Once again - just my opinion. I'm glad he is in charge.
  14. this I agree with
  15. The killer Bees so to speak have really always been about potential. People have been projecting that Bogaerts was is going to become something that he has never been at the plate. As for Benintendi, who knows, hopefully he has a great ml career, but to project that he is going to better than some of the best who have ever been out there (comparisons to Yaz and Lynn) really? We need to be happy with what we have got in his case. JBJ is doing what JBJ has done since breaking in and it works for me. Betts is a little off but is it right to think that someone like him is going to have a career year every year he plays? I think that as a group they may not be under performing. What you see might be exactly what you are going to get.
  16. The option year, although can be important, it doesn't look to me as though it something that is going to take precedence over trying to make this team a better team in the eyes of DD. You need to play your best players. In this case, we get a chance to find out what Devers can do. It is surely worth the risk.
  17. I agree but nobody and I mean nobody could have predicted what he has done this year. Looking back, i guess I 'd say that signing Pablo and not just giving that job initially to Shaw is where the biggest mistake came. oh well - maybe Devers! We can hope.
  18. I'm not sure that I would call trading Shaw a blunder. It was a risk for sure not having a backup plan. But I'm thinking that it is safe to say that trading Shaw for an elite reliever might be considered by some (for sure not all) to have been a gamble worth taking. I like Shaw and would not have traded him. On this forum, trading him was not an unpopular move though.
  19. It is obviously not honesty but simply what your perspective is. I do not agree that this team should be better than what they are. If Thornburg and Smith were healthy and with us yes but from a hitting perspective not so much. Looking at this lineup realistically before the season many of us really questioned where the offense was going to come from. They are not all under performing.
  20. We really are in some mess. lol Are we still in first place? Many of us questioned the team not finding an adequate replacement for what we lost in Ortiz's bat but overall the only decision that really looks questionable at all is the failure to have a back up plan for Sandoval. We have an adult in charge of the asylum. it is all good.
  21. That would make some sense. I'm hoping that no one would tout anyone as being the next anyone until they had actually done something. Maybe some day Espinosa will be a good pitcher at the ml level but right now and for the foreseeable future I'm pretty happy that we have the guy we got in the trade. It was a good trade for us.
  22. Couldn't agree more! This team obviously isn't the White Sox of the late 50's but a good number of these guys better be willing to do what ever it takes to get runners into positions that they can score from.
  23. All non New Englanders need to know that once you cross Long Island Sound, you enter a new world - ours!.lol
  24. No one has suggested bunting to move runners over is something that should be done on any type of regular bases but when you are weak hitting good fielding little guy who has been so lucky as to get to the ml, then being able to do anything it takes to be useful might be what keeps you there. The Red Sox this season would have helped themselves on a number of occasions if they had been able to move a runner along here and there. Bat control is a skill that I would think I guess is still valued.
