I'm older - not old of course but I remember '67 just sneaking up on all of us. They were young and they were good. We were unfamiliar with most of the young guys that year until we had a chance to see them on the big stage. - Foy-Bresseud-Andrews-Scott-Conigliaro-Smith and one of the old timers at that time Yaz. Initially we had a pitching staff that looked like a one man show -Lonborg although Billy rohr got us excited early. We need a Lonborg pitching for us next year. I have been admonished for not making my points clear lol so here goes. I would be very content with a very young team next year. Obviously we need at least one quality starter in there. Upgrade the defense at second base and centerfield and bring in what might qualify as an ace, and I'll be all in.

I know and I am not in panic mode. Just want to see a team out there that I can get excited about. I actually would likely watch them seriously again if I saw a youth movement in general. As much as I like Turner, Duval, and actually Verdugo, I see players like Rafaela, Abreu, Duran, and Casas as players I would to see held on to.

oh I understand. I'm not advocating trading him specifically. I just don't think that is going to be room to keep them all.

I did think that Yorke was older. I understand that he has had some injury issues but I would have liked to have seen him get some time at second base.

I thought the point was pretty clear. Bloom's moves confuse me.

I just find many of Bloom's deals confusing. Good or bad - I don't know but confusing. We have a need at second base. How is old is Yorke? On the other hand, Wong appears to be a decent starting catcher moving forward but yet Teel has already moved to AA bypassing any catchers that we have up to that level. If Teel is this talented, wouldn't it kind of make sense that he really is on the fast track to Boston. In my mind that makes Wong a legitimate trade prospect who might attract some attention. We don't need another Fisk to backup another Fisk. A Montgomery will do. We have those guys already. The purpose of my post isn't to make any kind of trade proposal but just to say that I don't get much that I see happening. In my world, common sense says that Yorke should have been given a look by now. otherwise I think they should try package and move players like him who have talent but just don't fit the scheme whatever it might be moving forward. oh and yes I am surprised by Teel's rapid rise to that level.

I think he should be in centerfield every day. I really hope that they aren't considering trading him.

If that is the case, does that mean that the consensus is that Rafaela isn't as good as the guys playing ahead of him? If that is the reason he isn't actually playing, maybe that means that he just in reality isn't as good as what we already have out there. Personally, I think the kid is very likely a better baseball player then the guys getting the playing time.

I don't know what will happen, but I will still be surprised if bloom has his job in boston next season. We certainly have stock piled some pretty good looking prospects, but there won't be a place for them all in Boston for one thing. The other thing is are they as good as we think that they are? If Rafaela is a true player of the future, why is he not in the lineup daily? I think that there are obvious issues here and I don't think that it looks as though Bloom is the guy who can sort things out. Who stays and who goes.

What are you planning to do with Wong? Teel's rise has been very very quick. What I do not understand is if young players like Rafaela and Abreau represent our players of the future why are they not in the lineup daily? If you need a second baseman so desperately, why not give Yorke a shot?

I agree with you about Casas but as for any of our other young guys, how would anyone here really know what we are looking at at the major league level. they are not getting the opportunity to play. You have to have something to give to get anything in return. I would keep Casas but outside of Duran, who has played enough on a regular basis to convince any gm that they would be worth trading for. We appear to have a bunch of talented minor leaguers. Is it possible that maybe they aren't talented enough?

I guess that I would be one of those people who might not trust Bloom to get the job done.

It would not surprise me at all to see Bloom gone soon after the season ends. The deals he has been involved with have not all been failures but they don't match up very well with what a franchise like boston has been used to. We have many reasonably solid looking young minor leaguers some of whom are moving up quickly such as Teel. We have quite a few duplicates as well. I don't think that since he has been here, Bloom has shown that he can even if he was willing to try to make the deals that could push a team like the Sox back in to the big playoff picture. If Henry decides that bloom stays, I think that we better get used to seeing much more of what we have been seeing for the last few years.

I don't think that Casas is going anywhere. He has been a bright light for us. I actually think that he is going to be able to field that position just fine as well.

Also he was one of the best horse traders in baseball. He could make a deal, the right deal. Do people who want to see Bloom deal anyone away, really think he can make the types of deal that Dombrowski did? Oh, by the way, the farm does have more players in it then when he was here. Does that alone mean that he decimated the farm? Not by a long shot.

Hey - call me stupid I guess. I have always considered pitching to be something that should limit a team from scoring. In my little mind, pitching is defense.

Not only pitchers but players in general. I'm assuming that due diligence is done when scouting or developing anyone. We've waited for Devers, who I'm still glad we have, to become a decent third baseman. So far - not so good. The Story signing really didn't make much sense. I didn't scout Yoshida but I'm just guessing that someone must have known about his fielding and base running weaknesses. And I don't think you build a team filled with dh's. If you don't field so good, and you don't have much in the way of starting pitching, you might do whatever it takes to problem solve those needs. It would be wonderful if we could keep all of our slow non fielding big hitters, but no field and no pitch = no win.

Over and over again I have heard about badly it is for business to sign people of a certain age to anything that calls for any sort of long term contract. How it just won't be worth the expense in the long run. The be careful what you wish for part also goes the other way. You are definitely taking a chance signing a younger player long term before knowing what you have. I'm glad that we have Devers for sure but he is proving that playing third base likely isn't in his future. The money spent on both Story and Yoshida might be money that was poorly spent. Casas looks like the real deal in the batter's box but is he going to be able to field his position going forward? there isn't one blueprint required to build a team. Based on what I have seen my confidence level in bloom isn't very high.

Did you ever think that we would be in a situation like this one? The obvious comeback is that we are a .500 team - many of us felt that that was what we were going to be. Maybe it isn't so bad - .500 with little to no pitching or defense means you must be doing something right I guess. We are at that who would you keep time of year again. I would tend to want to keep anyone who can field at the ml level and anyone who can pitch at the same. It's nice to have a few hitters but this team looks in need of a rebuild to me. Unlike some here, I guess I don't see all those young can't miss prospects. I would be in favor of making major rebuild trades.

So all I have heard for some time now is how strong our farm system has become and how much brighter our "sustainable" future has become. Common sense tells me that if players like Rafaela and Abreau could become future stars, they should be in the everyday lineup right now. I don't mean in ph roles or late inning replacement roles. I don't understand what is going on at all. Personally I can say that I don't see anything coming from this management team that gives me much hope for now or the future. Does anybody out there really have confidence that Bloom or whoever will be willing to make moves that will obviously strengthen us? If you start from nothing (which I understand we are not), wouldn't you think that pitching and defense would be the primary jobs you need to fill? If in Bloom's mind that is how he is thinking, we are in for a long long struggle. It wouldn't surprise me at all if we endured another very quiet off season listening to how close our young players are and how good they will be.

I agree with you . I think that Bello might have the stuff to get #2 as does Houck but after that it is up for grabs. Crawford will eat innings at the back of the line and likely throw a good one from time to time. We need help up front. I'm not sure they will make the moves necessary. I'm finally willing to say that Chris Sale just won't be coming in that proverbial door again anytime soon. I am very happy that I had the chance to see him at his best.
