  1. Oh come on now notin, I'm agreeing with you - dd was obviously the worst thing that could have happened to the franchise. But I will add that it might be time to move on. I don't think that DD cares too much about what you or the other 2 or 3 people here who feel like you do think. We have all heard you.
  2. Of course you are going to find a way to blame DD. What would you do without him?
  3. Pretty much how I feel. I am a fan but I don't pretend to understand nor do I want to learn about the budgetary restraints that a multi billionaire must face. If he had wanted Mookie here badly enough, he would still be here.
  4. I kind of think like you so now that you have chosen to go down this road, get ready. You likely will hear many many times about how the farm system had absolutely been devastated and we just had to do what we had to do. The only excuse for Mookie leaving that might remotely make sense would be that he just did not want to play in Boston anymore. Kind of looks like that wasn't the case at all.
  5. I'll likely tune in just to watch the greeting he receives. He has all of the qualities and characteristics you want in a player plus being one of the best to ever play the game.
  6. I don't know whether or not they are robots. Guess I should be apologizing for my coaching career. Oh well, it is a teaching philosophy that works. I really couldn't care any less what you think about how I approach athletes and athletics in general. Once again I like Devers. I just didn't like seeing him beaten like that. He gets criticized on here and just in general plenty. I'll take anger over hiding your head in your hands any day.
  7. Oh and yes I do know some ballplayers. He had a bad moment but I don't think that I would consider him an "immature crybaby". As for the others you mentioned, I could care less about them. I don't know Devers. Don't twist my words and suggest that I think I know him. It is my opinion. You don't like it - I get that.
  8. yes he did. Like I said, I like him. I just don't like to see my leaders act this way. I'm likely too old, don't you think? I spent too many years trying to help young athletes get through these types of situations without letting the world know how they feel. I understand it of course but I still don't like to see it. It is my opinion.
  9. I am a member of that "less sophisticated" group of fans for sure. I have to say so that I am very impressed that this comment didn't rate a special criticism from either or both of notin or moon. dd the great ruiner of all things farm system related. I also am impressed with them both for not commenting. It makes me think that maybe it is time to move forward and look at the current regime as owning what it has done, what it is doing, and where it is going.
  10. I think that most posters here understand that I certainly see and probably hear things differently than you do. I understand perfectly what he was saying. I focused on an entirely different aspect of his comment than you. I have no idea whether or not more kids are playing baseball than they were when I was a kid in this country. What we do know I guess unfortunately is that there are more adult oriented programs out there for kids than ever before. More exposure of course but better baseball, not necessarily. There is something special about kids organizing kids in unorganized ways.
  11. I really like Devers and I'm glad that we signed him long term. When it comes to marketing him as the "face of the franchise"as some do, I think that he has some growing up to do. Once again, I like him and I sympathize with him when it comes to his fielding issues but I did not enjoy seeing one of our team leaders burying his head in his hands apart from his teammates. Not a good leadership look for me. I want him to get angry of course but I also want to see him get past hanging your head after making an error. If he is lucky, he'll get many more chances to make mistakes in the future.
  12. ummmmm.... I don't think so. have a hunch he and I are on the same page.
  13. I like this post and obviously agree with it. AAU sports in general has become a huge money maker for some in this country. The era of the 3 sport athlete is disappearing and that is sad. Due to the fact that there are so many different AAU teams and travel teams out there, being on one really isn't much of a big deal. More opportunities - of course. Better play - not necessarily.
  14. Wow - if I didn't know better I would obviously think that old Red got you boys again. He makes a comment about Devers and regardless of how you feel about him you go into attack mode for what 3 pages. I'm going with a gotcha moment and he gotcha. First of all I think that Turner and Devers both play for the same team at least for the time being. This would be akin to anyone mentioning DD's name on here just to watch the two maybe three of you squirm and pontificate about how he destroyed our franchise. For the record, i'm a Devers fan and I'm glad that he is still with us but so should Mookie Betts be. A multi billionaires budget knows no real boundary.
  15. rest is good for sure but there is a time to rest and a time to maybe think about digging a little deeper. My complaint with Cora and his rest days would be that often it appears that a bat has just come to life and low and behold it is a scheduled rest day. I would like to see him let it go a little more. I'm also not a big fan of always doing the lefty righty thing with potential young hitting prospects. If they don't get the opportunity to hit both lefties and righties, you'll never know if they can.
  16. Common sense and business sense I guess says you are right. Obviously I'm not changing how I feel about this guy. He brings things to this team that they desperately need even when half healthy. I just have gotten tired of reading about what a terrible sign it was to reup him and how it has so dramatically held this team back. Then I start thinking about all of the mediocre as well as injured talent that we have signed over the past few years. I see that as money wasted. but hey I am a Chris Sale fan. Looking ahead, I'd be surprised if I ever get to see him hit 97/98 on that radar shot again. I'm glad that I had the opportunity to see one of the best who has worn that Red Sox jersey. I hope someone else emerges who can lead the way again. I don't see it on the horizon and as long as a profit continues to be turned I don't see it coming through free agency or trade.
  17. I don't think so. Did I say that? What I am saying is that notin constantly bringing up The DD era and trying to defend Bloom by using it is ridiculous. I'm still trying to support Bloom and I'm still waiting to see the next real superstar appear in a Red sox uniform.
  18. This i get and i do understand this. Personally i think that Sale absolutely deserved the deals he got. He earned them. If people want to think that that signing has literally crippled us for what the last 4 or 5 years, so be it. I'm sorry but look at the junk really that he has signed and brought in to us. I do understand how you feel though.
  19. Ridiculous!
  20. Did you say brainless? Wait til next year or maybe the next or the next or a few more until things become sustainable. We'll show em what we can do for cheap.
  21. It is isn't about dates and times and budgets I guess to me. I'm painfully aware of everything that you have said. If I had to choose would I choose to have Betts here right now without Story and without Devers? Absolutely without one bit of doubt.
  22. Personally it makes no difference to me who was ultimately or even partially responsible for the fact that Betts does not wear a Red Sox uniform at this point in time. DD, Bloom, JH, blah blah blah or should I say ... Him going to the Dodgers means and meant that we lost a potential once in a generation talent. If Mookie ever had intentions of staying in Boston, which we will never truly know for sure, and he was allowed to walk because of the $ it would have taken to keep him here, I don't see it as being justifiable. We went on to sign Story and then this year Devers as well. Something just doesn't seem right with this line of reasoning. In general, I'm not really fond of much that Bloom has or has not done since he has been here but he is the GM and I choose to support him. I do kind of wish though that all of this sustainable talent that he has been responsible for developing would be put on display soon so that I can actually have a real good reason for choosing to follow them.
