  1. !!!
  2. I'm predicting - Leon gone (packaged with others) - Swihart in! Actually I have said it before - nothing new.
  3. I could live with that. I could also live with a team that did not have Pedroia or Price on it though too.
  4. It is true and sad in many instances.
  5. thank you - It isn't uncommon knowledge that most people want clear and well defined boundaries. Wishy washy doesn't normally make it. A good manager, coach, or boss, doesn't miss things. They are aware of what is going on around them. People that pride themselves on appearing to be disciplinarians and just act like they are, I really have no use for. I was called a disciplinarian as a teacher and a coach but I can't say that they made me feel good. I just wanted to be good at what I did. On the other hand, I have 0 use for the good old boys who think that you just have to be one of the guys and everything will work out fine. Good, honest, firm, fair, and intelligent people will succeed and they more often than not can relate to just about anybody without regard at all for age. You don't have to be young to succeed with young players.
  6. People in positions of leadership can be tough and not be *******s. I good coach can be tougher than hell and still be respected and maybe even loved. I think that you are kind of saying that. There are plenty of people out there who are loud, obnoxious, self-centered, who might think that they are tough but in reality many of them aren't. You don't have to be loud - you don't really have to be all that noticeable. You just have to have decent values and be willing to stand for things that you think are right.
  7. Why? You are assuming that you know what I mean when I say a manager has to be tough on occasion. You obviously have an image of what you think someone who is tough when he needs to be must look like. I'm advocating for the best overall coach (manager ) that there is out there. In my opinion, and it really isn't all that unusual, is that that manger will be someone who has the guts once again to deal with jerks and jerk like situations firmly. He will be respected and cared for if he does. How about you sharing your list of very successful managers who do not deal with issues like we have seen this year quickly and firmly.
  8. I wonder if he meant that whoever the next manager is that he might have to kick one or two of our youngsters in the ass and tell them to wake the f*** up! If he had said that, I might even like him.lol Our new manager just has to realize that he is just not one of the boys and that it is ok to treat someone who is an ******* like an ******* in spite of the size of said *******'s contract.
  9. I'm not going to be the guy beating the let's get rid of Pedroia drum but if he is not healthy enough to play more than half of the games at second base for us then he has virtually no value to our team next year. He is a second baseman. One of the best when he is healthy. There is 0 way his bat is valuable enough to keep him in our lineup even in a pinch as dh. If he comes back still damaged in the spring, I think that a tough decision will have to be made ala Danny Ainge and I. Thomas. Sometimes the reality has to be accepted. He has and is and will continue to be paid well. Any decision with respect to him, has to be made without emotion and with the best interests of the team are going forward.
  10. I was just kind of asking for any possible Hernandez updates but now that you have mentioned it I'll just say that if I could I would trade you one Hernandez for one Pedroia (if Hernandez is healthy) right now and I would not look back. I'm starting to think that the day of Pedroia is coming to an end. I would take a chance on a younger, faster player right now without regret.
  11. I'm not sure that he is the answer either. I just don't think I know what the question is really. Is Pedroia going to be able to play more than half a season as a second baseman for us next year would be the question I would ask? And I guess that a full year of Hernandez might even give us more production than Pedroia is going to give us anyway. Will we ever really know whether or not Nunez's knee is going to be 100%? If it isn't I wouldn't sign him. I think that even thinking about using Pedroia in a part time dh role is ridiculous. A singles hitting on occasion beat up former star isn't going to help us at all. The reality for me is that it is possible that we might have to accept the reality that Pedroia just ain't what he used to be. His production both at the plate and in the field is replaceable.
  12. My thoughts are that we are all going to be stunned at some point this off-season. it is pretty clear that this team wants a World Series now as in sooner as opposed to later. If that is going to happen then there will have to be major player changes. Changing coaches alone just ain't going to get it done. In all honesty, I don't think that anyone of these guys that we have playing everyday have shown us that they are so good that we just could not get by without them. We are comfortable with them but that is about it. We hope that they will get better. I don't think that DD works like this.
  13. Has anyone heard anything about Hernandez? I kind of felt that he would be the guy who ultimately would replace Pedroia. No info about his surgery or anything.
  14. John Farrell strikes me as a good loyal man. I feel badly for him but he had to see this coming. Another poster said it earlier and I agree that he was not DD's man to begin with. IMO, he had a couple of occasions where he just might have stood his ground just a little better and if there was a clubhouse issue, I'm looking right at PP - Price and Pedroia. Good luck to them - and good luck to whoever comes after Farrell. Personally I don't think Farrell was nor do I think that he wanted to be tough enough with these two as well as others. Got to say though that it really did look as though the time had come! There is a hell of a lot more to this than knowing how to get along with younger players. The manager is the leader - he needs to lead and that means you got to have some space between you and the worker bees. You aren't one of the boys. When they act like children sometimes you just have to treat them that way.
  15. I'm so naive - i got no idea what the f*** is going on.
  16. That is the truth unless you are going to be buying (which I know you aren't) that all of our hitters just suffered from an extreme case of regression and that next year they are bound to be right back up to snuff. This team needs professional hitters not wannabes and maybes and should bes. We need at least one and preferably two now I know what comes next. Who? How? and how much? Not my job and not something I'm worried about. The man in charge knows it as well and that works for me.
  17. Wait wait - add: Holt,Marrero, hernandez, Leon, Young, Brentz - Can't do that , we would lose all of our depth. there must be someone better out there that this haul would attract anyway don't you think.
  18. MVP is just not a sarcastic kind of guy that's all. OK - No one has said it so here goes. Pedroria has lost his luster for me. He got screwed for sure on a call yesterday but I still think that he shouldn't have watched that one go by. He carried on too long. As tough as he is, he still has one shitload of baby in him. He was the one who should have been run from the game. What that tells me is that that is one selfish son-of-bitch of a move. He knows what his value is to this team. He knows who they have to back him up. That was pathetic on his part and not defensible. It is the biggest stage of the year!
  19. This team won 93 games. After following them very closely, i'm still not sure I know how they did it. I feel much like everybody (except for Max) feels about Farrell for the most part but what troubles me a little is that if he is as bad as it seems some people think he is I don't see this team winning one more game - either with or without him. As presently constructed, we aren't that good. Somehow 93 wins were milked out of these guys. If he keeps order in the asylum, and they play hard, what the hell. 93 wins!!! Does anyone really think that a different manager could have made this bunch as good as Houston or a couple of others? Not me. I think he comes back. A slow start next year might cost him his job though.
  20. I like me some Votto too.
  21. being sarcastic once again i'm afraid
  22. He get any hits or was he pitching? lol
  23. Holt and Marrero would have given us quite the lift out there don't you think?
  24. I'm thinking that I am finally starting to understand what all the yap about the impending cliff is all about. Just out of curiosity, outside of Shaw, how many of the prospects that we traded does anyone ever think were apt to be playing in Fenway? They were ultimately going to be traded. The bigger issue to me seems that some people just don't like the players that we traded for. Some also have presented all kinds of alternative moves that they would have made if, if, if,.... I am a proud member of the ain't no cliff crowd. Pleased overall with what DD has done and i don't want him to stop. When Chris Sale talks about the future being very exciting, it works for me.
  25. As we have done in the recent past, you have to give to get don't you. For what it is worth, I still see Moreland as having value for us. I'm slowly coming around to possibly making a hard charge for Stanton. I'm not in love with many of these guys not named Sale these days and I really think that there might be major changes coming to upgrade our offense. In all honesty, Devers, Betts, and Vazquez would be the only untouchables for me when talking about our field players. Not just saying this for you here either, but I would not bet against Swihart being with us and Leon not being with us next year.
