  1. sugar tits to you young man
  2. third base coaches in general seem to take a beating - I was and am still a big butterfield fan but oh baby did he get whooped on here. It is not a job that I would ever have wanted.
  3. Exactly! For those people I have a deep amount of respect. Kind of like when you run a business or an athletic program, good leaders admit freely that they are not always right and certainly don't know everything that could be known. You try to find people that are loyal and can do things better than you can do in some instances.
  4. I agree with you of course. I didn't assume that you were talking about any kind of defensive trade off. These two guys we have are both good catchers unfortunately right now they are barely hitting at all.
  5. Sorry but you don't know me. My eyes are actually not biased at all. We have had this discussion before. We have two different opinions for sure. You are convinced that you are right and I am happy for you. Sorry - this was meant for Kimmi in reference to me seeing things in a biased way.
  6. I think that you are right.
  7. I have 0 problem with looking at things this way. i think that it is pretty obvious that my big gripe is an overuse of all things analytical. I value their use for sure but if you do not buy into what they "seem" to say entirely it does not mean that your perspectives still can't be pretty good. I will still love the game with or without them.
  8. i'm beginning to think that it's a Springsteen gig. "Trust none of what you hear and less of what you see"
  9. Why did we ever sign that stiff anyway? If it wasn't for his absolute insistence that he play in that outfield, I bet that Cora might not play him at all. Maybe you have missed the times that I said that I think that he looks a little shaky out there. You think I need to get a different tv? Can I trust my computer screen more? Whoops - forgot to add that this looks a little sarcastic but it certainly isn't the nasty s*** we often see here.
  10. If it's ok, I still think that I can trust what my eyes see with respect to whether or not a player is dead slow, gets a late break on a ball, or takes a wrong angle.
  11. I think that everything that you mentioned here is very apparent using the eye test. If a player has limited range or is late breaking to balls, I feel certain that by watching them everyday I could see this as could most.
  12. Ok I'll admit it, so do I. Who doesn't would be the question I guess. There are other statistics that tell a more complete story but numbers like ERA and wins and losses still serve a purpose for lots of diehard fans that I know. I still like those guys with 15 to 20+ wins - oh well.
  13. Man Moon that compilation of statistics is just overwhelming. Guess he must just be that bad out there. I'm not doubting what they tell but I'm still going to judge how good or bad he is defensively based on what I see him do. I'm probably the only person on this forum who finds the massive amount of statistical data available to be overwhelming. Paralysis by analysis has always been a problem for me. Personally, I need to keep things simple and just enjoy the game. Don't get me wrong, I like statistics but I would much rather judge our guys by what I see as opposed to what the past might say about them. I am just delighted that we have this guy and however Cora decides to use him is ok by me.
  14. What I see is an elite defensive outfield when Benintendi, JBJ, and Betts are out there. I'm willing to bet that there are a lot of outfielders who would look a little awkward playing beside any of those guys. That is what I see. Based on the metrics that I have seen (yes I looked at them), I would expect that JD would look a lot worse out there than he has so far.
  15. Don't know s*** from shinola about hockey but I am watching tonight.
  16. Not sure what this means.
  17. I have listened to people constantly criticize Price for his role in whatever last season. I have heard nothing form his teammates other than he is an excellent teammate. None of us knows what goes on in that clubhouse unless we are in there.
  18. Do we know how or whether it bothered his teammates?
  19. My personal preference is and will always be to watch players play before I draw conclusions about them regardless of what statistics might say about their abilities.
  20. Also Max, when is the last time you can remember Kimbrel struggling in any situation? lol Smith was ready and could have been used.
  21. I don't see any part of your comment as a criticism or sounding as though you might know more than anybody else. I like talking about these types of things and in this case I agree with you. I'm hoping for our team's sake that as we go along Cora fins a way to rest our guys without sitting 3-4-5 of them at the same time.
  22. I'm not criticizing the guy here Max. Don't fall into the trap that leads to the sarcastic nastiness that we see here from time to time. If I can't question these moves or lack thereof, then what is a forum board for? yup - I am still puzzled by the explanation to not use Kimbrel but not as much as the one to not bring in Carson Smith.
  23. With respect to Pedro, so was I. I'm not going to ever criticize a guy like Cora but I think that it is ok to question moves or lack of moves - I hope it is anyway. I like doing it because it keeps me involved mentally. These types of things interest me - they are real baseball moves. Hey, I still haven't gotten over Austin's slide yet. Since that play, I have focused in on every side made in a Red Sox game and got to say I haven't seen one that even comes close to his. Real baseball stuff for me!
  24. One thing that I think that it is safe to say is that using either JD or Nunez in the outfield won't make that outfield defense any better. I don't even want to guess what will become of Swihart. If he is not going to be used behind the plate at all, How is he ever gong to get enough looks to tell anybody anything about what he is capable of? The team looks good, the manager looks good, everything looks good and I get the idea of resting players but lineups like yesterday bother me I guess. Lin, Holt, either catcher, Moreland (although I'm ok with him I guess) really looks like too much offense sitting over there on the bench.
  25. It looked like Smith was ready and I did expect him to come in when runners got to second but I'm trying to figure out the rationale behind not using Kimbrel at that point in the game. Cora's comments indicated that he was not an option with the score tied in the 9th during a road game. I'm not questioning the move to not use him, just need someone to tell me why you wouldn't use him at that point.
