  1. I have listened to people constantly criticize Price for his role in whatever last season. I have heard nothing form his teammates other than he is an excellent teammate. None of us knows what goes on in that clubhouse unless we are in there.
  2. Do we know how or whether it bothered his teammates?
  3. My personal preference is and will always be to watch players play before I draw conclusions about them regardless of what statistics might say about their abilities.
  4. Also Max, when is the last time you can remember Kimbrel struggling in any situation? lol Smith was ready and could have been used.
  5. I don't see any part of your comment as a criticism or sounding as though you might know more than anybody else. I like talking about these types of things and in this case I agree with you. I'm hoping for our team's sake that as we go along Cora fins a way to rest our guys without sitting 3-4-5 of them at the same time.
  6. I'm not criticizing the guy here Max. Don't fall into the trap that leads to the sarcastic nastiness that we see here from time to time. If I can't question these moves or lack thereof, then what is a forum board for? yup - I am still puzzled by the explanation to not use Kimbrel but not as much as the one to not bring in Carson Smith.
  7. With respect to Pedro, so was I. I'm not going to ever criticize a guy like Cora but I think that it is ok to question moves or lack of moves - I hope it is anyway. I like doing it because it keeps me involved mentally. These types of things interest me - they are real baseball moves. Hey, I still haven't gotten over Austin's slide yet. Since that play, I have focused in on every side made in a Red Sox game and got to say I haven't seen one that even comes close to his. Real baseball stuff for me!
  8. One thing that I think that it is safe to say is that using either JD or Nunez in the outfield won't make that outfield defense any better. I don't even want to guess what will become of Swihart. If he is not going to be used behind the plate at all, How is he ever gong to get enough looks to tell anybody anything about what he is capable of? The team looks good, the manager looks good, everything looks good and I get the idea of resting players but lineups like yesterday bother me I guess. Lin, Holt, either catcher, Moreland (although I'm ok with him I guess) really looks like too much offense sitting over there on the bench.
  9. It looked like Smith was ready and I did expect him to come in when runners got to second but I'm trying to figure out the rationale behind not using Kimbrel at that point in the game. Cora's comments indicated that he was not an option with the score tied in the 9th during a road game. I'm not questioning the move to not use him, just need someone to tell me why you wouldn't use him at that point.
  10. Believe it or not, i do agree with you. And I would be the first to tell you that my primary focus is on just on one team. We have had these discussions before about some of our other guys as well haven't we. It's kind of like trying to compare the defensive abilities of Lynn and Bradley I think. I watched lynn extensively as I have bradley. Two great great defensive players. Tough to go wrong with either one.
  11. Not that it really matters because we still look pretty good record wise but you were ok with him leaving Price in the ball game at that point? I don't think that any of us know what he was thinking. One guess I think is just as good as another. I'm still thinking that pulling Price at that point would have been a tough but good move by him.
  12. You are of course entitled to your opinion but let me get this straight - correct me if I'm wrong. Past statistics say that he has sucked defensively - Now even though he has not made an error in the field this year , he still sucks out there only now it is because he looks bad. is that what you are telling me? This emphasizes the importance of what my eyes tell me. I'm a little nervous when a ball is hit toward him as well but those past stats don't have much meaning to me. He is making plays while looking bad doing it! I can live with that. To date the stats don't support the claim that he sucks out there. No one claims he is a plus defensively by the way.
  13. I felt like I was watching the jv team for the most part.
  14. Boy do I agree with you here. The only reason I could even think of for Price staying in once runners got to both first and second was to get him the win. He should have made the move - no question. Rookie manager and a veteran pitcher who really had pitched an excellent game - maybe a tough one for him to make but Price's win loss record is secondary to the team's win loss record.
  15. Hang in there!
  16. You have been blessed. I have beaten myself up over the years. I have always been fairly fit but the aches and pains are trying to catch up with me. Have to keep moving because the alternative really is no alternative.
  17. What I am hearing you say here is that even though JD has made every play to date that he hasn't looked pretty doing it. Are your eyes telling you something that the stats are not backing up so far this year?
  18. Personally I'd be more comfortable watching JD in left field as opposed to watching Nunez anywhere on the field. I get why people don't want to see JD out there but suggesting that Nunez should be out there instead- really. My eyes tell me that he looks very shaky in the field. lol
  19. Hope no one thinks that chronologically anyone is old at 35. Physically it's a whole different story.
  20. i don't remember that but I guess it wouldn't surprise me much that Rice said that I guess. Times were not always easy for him.
  21. Not sure how to take this notin - my wink wink had to do with Pedroia's height. What's a que anyway?
  22. If it is even possible, Lynn was so smooth out there he made plays that others could not make look easy.
  23. When Lynn and Rice broke in together in 1975 it was absolutely incredible. I kind of thought that Rice would get the Rookie of the year and Lynn would get the MVP. Freddie was just flat out smooth. He made everything look easy whether he was hitting it or fielding it. He patrolled cf.
  24. Mays was the best all round baseball player that I have ever seen. Now you understand that I don't need to quantify everything with supportive stats - I love the game and I love what I personally can interpret. Fred Lynn was the best cf that I have seen in Boston. I never saw Dom Dimaggio but have heard and read that he was also outstanding. No question in my mind though about the "say hey kid" . The expression 5 tool player would have had a picture of Mays beside it if we had used these types of expressions back then.
  25. these west coast trips kill me - other than than that, I'm good for parts of or all of the rest of them.
