  1. Since the season ended, the Rays and Yankees have gotten worse by subtraction. If Bloom makes a few nice pickups we could contend in the AL East. The AL East might be like the NFC East this year...
  2. If you think we have complainers about a lack of moves... the fans on the NYY forum I visit are having a ball with those pictures of Cashman snoozing in a sleeping bag - the charity thing he does every year for homeless people.
  3. I think Realmuto is out, so it's a good question.
  4. I don't see how you can project a guy his age who has topped at 4.1 fWAR to have 3 straight 6 fWAR seasons.
  5. And of course, there's a strong possibility that Vazquez goes nowhere.
  6. They must use fWAR, because there's a link to FanGraphs.
  7. They've got Castillo at about $150 million in actual value for 3 years, minus $35 salary for a net value of $115 million. But I can't figure out the $150 million. That would be about 6 WAR per year, but his projections are more like 3-3.5 WAR per year.
  8. Their valuation of Castillo does seem to be too high.
  9. So what about the NBA?
  10. If they can pull off a full NFL season, I don't see why they can't pull off a full MLB season that doesn't start for another 3-4 months.
  11. Jax doesn't have much patience for digging into actual facts and numbers, as he proved on the other thread with the JDM/Santana thing.
  12. I don't like it either. My point to oldtimer was that unloading 2020 underperformers like JD and Beni for whatever you can get is not necessarily smart from either a business or baseball perspective. It's not like a regular business where you can just cut loose the deadwood and replace them with better personnel for the same cost...
  13. Thank you. I stand by my numbers!
  14. So an $8 million overpay. Not going to kill them.
  15. If the Red Sox did decide JD was cooked (which I'm sure they haven't) and went all out to unload him, in the current climate the most another team would be willing to pay of his salary might be 8 or 9 million. If the Red Sox did that, they'd be eating 13 or 14 million (in AAV) for 2 years. If JD goes back to raking, how would that rate as a baseball move?
  16. There are a whole bunch of complicating factors in play if we're talking about Beni & JD. With Beni you pretty much have to throw 2020 out the window. And with JD, you can't really count 2020 as a season either. That's just for starters. Baseball is totally different from a typical business.
  17. Just learned this: Because of the deferred money in his contract, Mookie's 2021-2032 AAV for tax purposes is only 25.55 million. :p
  18. I would suggest that if they were motivated enough to make it suitably attractive for other teams it would be done by now.
  19. Who knows at this point? It's all moving at a snail's pace.
  20. I'll put Nova Scotia up against Western Maine. We have all that great stuff too!
  21. This signing suggests maybe the Rangers are not so much in salary dump mode.
  22. Are there even any rumors of us being interested in Semien?
  23. I feel very much at home in Maine. Along with New Hampshire and Vermont, it feels a lot like the Maritime provinces of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
  24. The Sox reportedly offered Mookie $300 million 3 full years after signing Price, so that doesn't make sense. If Mookie had come back with $350 million or something like that he'd probably still be with the team.
