  1. Gerrit Cole may be in a sticky situation. See New York Post for details.
  2. Kluber is reportedly going to have a lot of teams watching his workout. Assuming he looks good enough, I would think we're talking about an auction situation. We just don't know exactly how high teams will be willing to bid.
  3. That'd be fine with me.
  4. Ha, yes, I wouldn't be complaining.
  5. The last 5 years have been pretty good for the 'non-crapshoot' side of the debate. And I'm including Washington because of their second half record. I think after best regular season record, that's the next thing that should be looked at. Maybe there's a trend in that direction for some reason?
  6. But no rings since '48.
  7. True, but if we were to sign Odorizzi, Kluber and Hand or Bradley, that would put a big dent in the budget room. It's going to be interesting. Let's hope, anyway.
  8. How are the Braves 'awfully vulnerable'? A little short on details.
  9. Sure they're different. Some teams are obviously better positioned to make big acquisitions with prospect capital. And those generally involve taking on salaries that are lower than free agent prices. The Chris Sale trade for example. We couldn't do a deal like that right now even if we wanted to.
  10. It's just that every GM in baseball who's looking for players has to be thinking this exact same thing. It's pretty obvious by now.
  11. Or is it like in that song by Frank Sinatra: "Life keeps runnin' in cycles..."
  12. What if everyone waits?
  13. Of course, acquiring players by trading prospect capital is in a different category from free agent signings.
  14. Like I say, he only made 3 mill last year, so it's not totally implausible, especially the way things are going this offseason.
  15. Would you sign him for 1.5 mill plus incentives for starts made?
  16. OTOH he only made 3 mill last year and pitched decently. He has actually pitched pretty well since 2015.
  17. The pitchers we acquire or talk about acquiring seem to fall into one or more of 4 categories: 1) Not good enough 2) Not durable enough 3) Not young enough 4) Not cheap enough
  18. Now that's the spirit!
  19. Only if he was willing to take a tiny base salary plus incentives for starts made.
  20. Depends how Old School you are...
  21. Not only that, but "when he’s on the mound, his results will vary from terrible to good with the body of work trending towards terrible"!
  22. Did you like the Britton "swell-opt"?
  23. If you cherry-pick the stretch from 2007 to 2020, you've got 6 times in 14 years that the #1 regular season team won the WS. 3 times it was us!
  24. Wow, you've already been working on this.
