  1. a) Only one team can win it all. You also spend to entertain the fans a bit, no? They pay the bills, after all. Charlie Morton got $15 million, arguably an overpay by current standards. If we signed him and traded him at the deadline he would cost us about $10 million, putting us over the tax threshold. And what if he flops.
  2. DD certainly spent. The Sale and Bogey extensions, of course, were spending in the name of keeping star players around. Bloom has spent very lightly to date, that's for sure.
  3. OK. I'll match what you give.
  4. I'm thinking Durable Dick might settle for 2 million or so at this point.
  5. Gotta give Frazier props for the carrot-topped bat he's using in spring training.
  6. Or Durable Dick. I'd take any of them, but I don't think we're getting any of them.
  7. Bloom's hands were tied, agreed. DD didn't have a stellar 2018-2019 offseason, but I don't think that accounts for the 2019 tumble either. It was a whole package of bad things.
  8. And it's equally absurd to put all the blame on DD for 2019's plummet or on CB for 2020's plummet.
  9. That is kind of a dopey saying. What if what you always got was really good? In that case should you keep doing what you were always doing?
  10. Denny, we went from being the best team ever assembled in 2018 to 84-78 and third place in 2019, before hiring Bloom.
  11. Pablito was pretty much a one of a kind model, though, thank goodness.
  12. Yeah, German's head and Kluber's shoulder.
  13. When you're a Red Sox fan, you can't even get too attached to the head of baseball ops!
  14. Their offer of $2.5 million might have been the highest too.
  15. You could probably make a case that in the entire AL East, the only sure thing starter is Cole LOL
  16. Well, of course, with baseball players and all their variances, you can generally only judge bargains in retrospect. Which is not quite the same as being in the eye of the beholder.
  17. Not much point bringing the Price trade into the equation. Trading Price didn't just save money, but enabled the tax reset, and may have increased what we got from the Dodgers, though that's just speculation. And Price is at least as much of a question mark as Odorizzi going forward.
  18. Or maybe they will. Some free agent signings do end up as bargains.
  19. I think they'll both sign soon. Obviously not getting what they'd hoped, though.
  20. That's not great news for Devers LOL (Sorry man, I hope you don't mind me giving you a little heat about the 'favorite player' thing. It's all in jest.)
  21. Puig was sued for alleged sexual assault October 30/20 (the alleged assault occurred in 2018). No idea if the case was ever settled. But for me it was kind of the last straw as far as ever seeing him in a Sox uniform.
  22. You are The Iceman LOL
  23. Perhaps the issue I'm remembering with Kimbrel was that when he came in in the 8th for a 4 or 5 out save, he didn't do well in the 9th.
  24. Or OPS against, OBP against, SLG against.
