  1. I think with Lester it worked out Even Steven. Ben basically traded him for Porcello, and Rick helped us win in 2018. After Lester got another ring with the Cubs in 2016.
  2. As Slasher put it, just give Mookie a blank contract and let him fill in the numbers...
  3. No, I think if Cora's preparation was bad, we don't win 3 against the Rays. There's a lot of randomness in baseball. Yankees lost to Baltimore last night and the Jays have lost 2 in a row to Texas, and they're supposed to be a lot better than us. It's a long season.
  4. Bruce can't hit any more, and he's not an asset in the field. Saw some Yankee fans grumbling that he should have had the bad throw by Torres. Good old Cash.
  5. "There is no tragedy in tanking."
  6. Jansen had your classic blown save for the Dodgers last night.
  7. How's that Jay Bruce Experience so far, Jax? Some depth, huh?
  8. Torres at shortstop is pure stupidity by Cashman. The man has issues with team construction.
  9. The grim spectre of injury hangs over all these $300 million plus contracts. Last night Tatis suffered a shoulder injury, the kind that looked like it could be serious. Mookie is out of the Dodgers lineup tonight with lower back stiffness, which is presumably nothing serious.
  10. In baseball, concerns tend to come and go.
  11. The Mariners' rotation?
  12. There's always something with him.
  13. There's actually a pretty simple explanation for how someone could be both a Cliff-denier and down on the current team. It goes like this: if they hadn't fired Dombrowski and hadn't stopped spending, there wouldn't have been a Cliff and the 2021 team would be better than this.
  14. I always wonder who you're referring to with these posts.
  15. I don't think it's necessary for economic relationships to move in lockstep. Then again, I don't really understand much about economics.
  16. Leads that are too big or too small don't fall in the sweet spot, I guess LOL
  17. I believe it's true that there's a relationship between MLB salaries and MLB ticket prices, although they don't move in lockstep.
  18. Of all the things that can be irksome about the save stat, my personal #1 is the way announcers think it's necessary to specify whether it's a 'save situation' or not, as if that's really important. Drives me nuts.
  19. Imagine the Red Sox having a head of baseball ops whose real forte is pitching...
  20. My optimistic spin is that it means the team plays hard for Cora. In a challenging season like this one, the manager can really make a difference.
  21. The save stat was not a bad idea in principle. But the rules are messed up. It still amazes me that Rivera got charged with a 'blown save' in Game 5 of the 2004 ALCS. He came in in the 8th with runners at first and third, no outs and a one run lead. He gave up a sac fly that tied the game. He went on to pitch 2 innings and be charged with 0 runs, yet he got the 'blown save'. Tom Gordon, who put those runners on in the 8th, got credited with a hold and no blown anything. If the rules are no good, the stat isn't much good.
  22. There will be a limit on Houck's innings this year, so that has to be taken into account too.
  23. Let me ask this, just for fun. Without looking it up, how many of the rules for what earns a save and what earns a blown save do you know?
  24. And you like to discredit any of the newer stats that you don't buy into.
  25. You'd be better off stopping after the first sentence. Because wins, saves and ERA are all debatable stuff too.
