  1. When we acquired Porcello he was coming off his best season - 15 wins, 204 innings, 3.43 ERA. I would say he benefited from some Recency Effect.
  2. I think the Astros are cheating again, somehow. Especially when they play against us.
  3. It's hard to tell a player is ready from his AAA stat line. Franchy Cordero is hitting .435 for Worcester after hitting .179 for Boston. Doesn't that say a lot right there? Like major league pitching is vastly better?
  4. To clarify, I'm not complaining that we didn't sign Porcello. I'm just surprised that no team has. Why would his 2020 numbers scare anyone off? As you say it was a small sample, and some of the peripherals were good. Maybe he just wasn't that interested in signing for a small amount. He's not short of cash, I'm sure.
  5. All 2020 sample sizes were small.
  6. So what about Porcello and his 3.33 FIP last year?
  7. Is FIP really all that meaningful? I honestly have no idea. Seems to me if it was a really really big deal, Rick Porcello would be pitching in the majors this year.
  8. And Springer. A team in disgrace! They were supposed to suck!
  9. I think I am done trying to analyze baseball. It's so freaking random from one series to the next, one game to the next.
  10. Now this would be educational, a lesson in how you don't always get what you want and have to learn how to deal with it.
  11. Bogaerts .321 JDM .319 I would predict at least one of them will be over .300. Maybe the sticky stuff crackdown will lift averages a bit.
  12. I wouldn't hold my breath on that. From my armchair, I have some sympathy for the hitters. Pitchers throw harder on average than they ever did, and they can make the ball break more than they ever did.
  13. Vendors aren't selling fake Italian sausage outside the park yet? Those guys need to modernize.
  14. The only way to sell high on Beni would have been to keep and hope for a big rebound. A risky strategy in itself.
  15. Not sure how anyone could confuse the two. Dalbec is good-looking. Daubach is somewhere between homely and fugly.
  16. I blame Cora for that.
  17. Stoutly reasoned, to steal a Samuel Beckett line.
  18. Oh sure, throw water on a perfectly good conspiracy theory...
  19. Or have a second mound closer to the plate for guys who only throw 90.
  20. Can someone bring up the collective ERA of Japanese Red Sox relievers? I know it's damn good. Leave out starters, Dice-K messed that up. Just kidding about the stat dig part...
  21. This Cordero fellow is really lighting it up for the WooSox.
  22. We're probably within days of swapping Dalbec and Chavis.
  23. Hopefully this doesn't come across as racist, but some of these Japanese relievers have a long shelf life.
