  1. And Cashman loves those guys. He probably wept with joy when he made the trade for Gallo.
  2. Definitely a high crapshoot factor in this year's playoffs. I would prefer the statement "there's a lot of crapshoot factor" over "the playoffs are a crapshoot".
  3. I don't hate people, I just hate bad calls on balls and strikes deciding games. Kind of a big difference.
  4. The Impossible Dream season is a little over-glorified, IMHO. It was a great season, but they didn't win the Series, and the succeeding years of 1968-1971 were nothing special at all.
  5. It's a reasonable proposal, Denny, but at some point it becomes obvious that this is something that's never going to change. When Laz Diaz is still home plate umping in the ALCS, no progress is being made and never will be.
  6. The strike zone is not imaginary. All that's required is height adjustments. The real umps have to do the same.
  7. Untrue. Most sports now use replay or technological aids of some sort.
  8. Right, but we're still treated to the spectacle of Laz Diaz calling balls and strikes in the ALCS.
  9. If they haven't done anything about upgrading the umps by now, they never will. That's a big part of why the robo umps are the only solution.
  10. I don't think Chaim Bloom is going to be signing any pitchers for $324 million.
  11. The Astros pitching was great start to finish the last 2 games. You can't leave Valdez and Garcia out of it. They dominated.
  12. I meant which team wants to do that?
  13. That may change eventually too. Who wants to sign the next Gerrit Cole deal?
  14. Your post was good but I disagree a little with this last part. What we're going to see is more pitchers who can go 2-3 innings, so bullpens will not be killed. I don't really like this part of the game now either, but it's what it is.
  15. The bottom line is that over the last 3 games the Astros figured out a great game plan for how to pitch to us and their pitchers were on their games. Astros pitching turned the series around and won it.
  16. Agreed. It's like baseball is a tough game for a lot of people to understand.
  17. Yeah, but comparing robo umps with robo players and robo fans isn't.
  18. And I read the Comments section in the Boston Globe. Lots of criticism of Cora but lots of support as well. A reasonable cross-section. If not one of those fans you were listening to would give Cora any credit for getting this team this far, for beating the Yankees and the Rays, not to mention winning the ring in 2018, that's pretty ridiculous.
  19. "Baseball is a sport not real life". Sport is obviously a part of our lives that many of us care a lot about, so that argument is a non-starter.
  20. Now I'm down to hoping against the damn Dodgers.
  21. That was a joke and his actual point was obvious.
  22. "Cora groupies come out", because notin dared to question your reasoning? Wow, that's bitchy.
  23. I'm not straddling any fences. I've said my guess is one of the two starts and one stays in the pen. I would agree that Whitlock is probably the best choice to start. Not sure what you're all worked up about. This is all just talk. Bloom will figure it out.
  24. Please don't ever use those talk shows as an actual source. Just a bunch of loud-mouth whiny know-it-alls. You get a better cross-section of fans here.
  25. We'll never know if baseball with robo-umps is better or worse than baseball without it, if they don't try it.
