  1. To summarize the facts of what led up to Nomar being traded: 1) He suffered an injury to his Achilles tendon in spring training. According to Nomar, it happened when he fouled a ball off his heel. But no one else saw it happen, and there were suspicions that the injury wasn't baseball-related. 2) He missed the first 57 games of the season. 3) When he came back, his mobility was noticeably limited. The team did some analysis and concluded that he had become the worst defensive shortstop in the game. 4) He was conspicuously unhappy in the clubhouse. Management was extremely concerned about his attitude and toward the end of July they met with Nomar to find out what was going on with him. The meeting got nowhere. 5) The final straw occurred shortly after this when Nomar informed team trainers and then Francona that he expected he would miss a lot of time in August and September to rehab his injury. Francona called Theo to let him know and Theo talked to Henry, Lucchino and Werner. They were now convinced that Nomar was longer interested in the Red Sox, that all he cared about was looking after himself so he would be healthy in time for free agency.
  2. Before today's game the Red Sox had given up 10 homers. The major league average was 9.
  3. So why were you talking up Nomar's fielding in post #344?
  4. Avoiding the question then?
  5. If you really want to re-litigate Nomar, we may have to start a separate thread. Why do you think he was traded then?
  6. No, there was much more to it than that, starting with his mysterious foot injury.
  7. Maybe you need a refresher on why Nomar was traded.
  8. That's an incalculable if. Bogaerts is nothing like 2004 Nomar. So no, simply put.
  9. I firmly subscribe to the principle that you don't trade good players when you're still in the hunt. The one exception we've seen was Nomar, but as I said, that was actually intended to upgrade the 2004 team's chances to win a ring. The talk about trading Barnes last year started when he was really going good.
  10. I'm with you on this one, Old Red. I don't understand guys getting excited about trading Bogey. Last year we went through the same thing for a while with guys who wanted to trade Barnes.
  11. Now inquiring Talksox minds want to know if you paid those 4 guys $2,500 each.
  12. They're a golden duo. Love them.
  13. Boone lets Loaisaga face Odor when he's got the lefty Luetge, who is very tough on lefties, all ready to go. He's terrible.
  14. That was VERY different, because he was hurting us with his lousy D and attitude, and it was a trade to upgrade.
  15. It's pretty simple. If you're out of it you trade guys with expiring contracts. If you're still in it you don't.
  16. I hope we're not going to have the discussion again about trading guys at the deadline when we're still in contention.
  17. Only if we're out of it.
  18. Eovaldi for 3 years is the answer. But like I say, he'll be looking for more.
  19. Assuming he has a good 2022, Eovaldi is going to be more expensive than he's worth. I'd offer him 3 @ $20, but he'll likely want and get considerably more, and not from us.
  20. This Red Sox-Twins game lasted 2:45. That's not bad.
  21. As I said 5-2 should be a QS now.
  22. Very good.
  23. Sorry Max, your position has been litigated and lost and your complaints are a bit pointless now.
  24. Wow, short thread. Good solid pitching today. Let's get over .500 tomorrow.
