  1. He pitched some good games in September and supposedly changed his pitch mix or something. That's the way this stuff works now-one little tweak can make you much better, one little glitch can make you much worse. Analysis and coaching is a huge part of the process.
  2. One thing I don't get is why they don't make WAR a little more transparent and event-based for the fans. What I mean is, if a guy has a 4-hit game, or makes 2 great plays on defense, they should let us know what that translated to in runs calculated.
  3. As always it's easy for us armchair GM's to say "shoulda got Gausman" because he's doing much better out of the gate than the two I mentioned.
  4. At the end of the day it's up to the players and owners to agree on the compensation for WAR thing. I'm sure most of them understand that it isn't perfect, and maybe some guys will benefit financially and others won't. But it's something that wasn't there at all before.
  5. Wacha is pitching a lot better so far than some of the more expensive options like E-Rod and Stroman. So you can see some of Bloom's reasoning.
  6. He's definitely working his way in that direction.
  7. I think there's a lot of stuff that factors in. Robles is a hard thrower who is generally going to give you 3 or 4 outs and throw 15 to 20 pitches. He was working on 2 days rest after throwing 23 pitches last time out. And as you say they wanted Diekman to have a clean inning. Unfortunately he made a mess that someone else had to clean up.
  8. To be honest, your back-and-forth was a little far down the rabbit hole for my liking. You're talking about vast masses of data loaded with variances of every kind. I don't think there are any clear answers. Also, past a certain point in an argument mvp can become a jokester.
  9. mvp takes weekends off, you'll have to wait until Monday to resume your byplay.
  10. No. Some may be skeptical of continuance, but not a single Sox fan doesn't want him to keep pitching well.
  11. And runs are hard to score in the Trop at the best of times. Need some reverse lock action here.
  12. Downs strikes out a lot, but the walks are encouraging. He has 24 K's and 9 BB's. BA is .235 but OBP is a respectable .350.
  13. At the moment I'm mainly worried about Pivetta. We were counting on him to be one of our solid starters.
  14. They are hardly all clowns. Usually you highlight the clowns in red or something.
  15. Well, once upon a time there were starters, late inning relievers and middle relievers. The middle relievers were the guys who weren't very good and were always coming and going on a shuttle. Now middle relievers have to be good too.
  16. Unless you lose games to the soft teams, in which case folks go totally apeshit.
  17. Gold Glove awards are absolutely not fine.
  18. So who are you talking about replacing?
  19. Not ignored, no. But this is about compensation being based on them.
  20. Nothing wrong with the way our cheap relievers have been performing.
  21. You have a point there.
  22. Gausman was expensive, but he has really progressed as a pitcher. I do agree it's disappointing the Sox didn't spend a little on a starter.
  23. And the pitching metrics are so different that Rick Porcello's fWAR is 50% better than his bWAR.
  24. Absolutely not.
