  1. But the WAR thing is only in connection with the bonus pool for pre-arb players, which is NEW spending, no?
  2. Because Sale 29 mill Eovaldi 17 mill Price 16 mill Payroll for tax purposes 242 mill
  3. There are only so many slices in the pie. Our 2022 pie is costing about $240 mill as it is.
  4. I think he would probably just get the Jeopardy treatment and be absent when the cheques are handed out.
  5. Right, and it also does tricky things like try to weed out luck factors, correct?
  6. The concept behind WAR is quite logical. Positive plays and negative plays are translated into runs. Every 10 runs is estimated to be worth 1 win. It's just an estimate of a player's total contributions.
  7. Richards 1.0 fWAR in 2021 Perez 1.0 total fWAR in 2020-2021 - 1.4 seasons Both minor busts.
  8. But you start out by saying Bloom is 1 for 5, so the messaging is a bit muddy.
  9. How would we be feeling about it right now if we re-signed E-Rod for 77 million?
  10. Paxton hasn't done a damn thing!
  11. Personally I look at all his acquisitions in totality. As for the 5 you listed, the only clear bust was Richards.
  12. notin didn't say, or mean, team wins and losses are irrelevant per se, but they're irrelevant to the matter at hand, which is individual performance.
  13. He pitched some good games in September and supposedly changed his pitch mix or something. That's the way this stuff works now-one little tweak can make you much better, one little glitch can make you much worse. Analysis and coaching is a huge part of the process.
  14. One thing I don't get is why they don't make WAR a little more transparent and event-based for the fans. What I mean is, if a guy has a 4-hit game, or makes 2 great plays on defense, they should let us know what that translated to in runs calculated.
  15. As always it's easy for us armchair GM's to say "shoulda got Gausman" because he's doing much better out of the gate than the two I mentioned.
  16. At the end of the day it's up to the players and owners to agree on the compensation for WAR thing. I'm sure most of them understand that it isn't perfect, and maybe some guys will benefit financially and others won't. But it's something that wasn't there at all before.
  17. Wacha is pitching a lot better so far than some of the more expensive options like E-Rod and Stroman. So you can see some of Bloom's reasoning.
  18. He's definitely working his way in that direction.
  19. I think there's a lot of stuff that factors in. Robles is a hard thrower who is generally going to give you 3 or 4 outs and throw 15 to 20 pitches. He was working on 2 days rest after throwing 23 pitches last time out. And as you say they wanted Diekman to have a clean inning. Unfortunately he made a mess that someone else had to clean up.
  20. To be honest, your back-and-forth was a little far down the rabbit hole for my liking. You're talking about vast masses of data loaded with variances of every kind. I don't think there are any clear answers. Also, past a certain point in an argument mvp can become a jokester.
  21. mvp takes weekends off, you'll have to wait until Monday to resume your byplay.
  22. No. Some may be skeptical of continuance, but not a single Sox fan doesn't want him to keep pitching well.
  23. And runs are hard to score in the Trop at the best of times. Need some reverse lock action here.
  24. Downs strikes out a lot, but the walks are encouraging. He has 24 K's and 9 BB's. BA is .235 but OBP is a respectable .350.
