I agree with you, but I don't think the idea of selling can be dismissed as ridiculous. The Sox are stumbling and staggering through an important stretch of games and look a lot like a .500 team. The expanded wild card still gives us a "puncher's chance", and that's about all you can say.
5 straight losses to the Rays, outscored 32-13. Yikes.
These last 3 games prove that there's no such thing as momentum in MLB. The Sox came into this series off two comeback wins over the Yankees. The Rays came in off getting swept by the Reds.
OK, it's not a certainty, but Ort pitched well for Woo, they brought him up and he has done well in his small MLB sample. That's not usually the guy you DFA.
No one has ever relied completely on the eye test. Even old schoolers looked at batting averages, earned run averages, fielding percentages, whatever. We just have more refined (and in some cases trickier) stats now.
