    The run of injuries was pretty crazy. I think it was on 3 consecutive days we found out Eovaldi, Wacha and Hill were all going on the IL. Then Sale. Plus Kike, Story and Devers. We were too thin to be able to withstand that many injuries.

    I'm in roughly the same position. I think my biggest worry about Bloom is a tendency to be "too clever", as with the JBJ trade.

    It looks like Gerrit Cole has the opposite problem from McGuire. Since they banned the stickum, Gerrit has a problem getting a good grip on his balls...

    It should have something to do with the mood of the fans. It's not like the team is on a long run of missing the playoffs.

    The Phillies are 34-19 since DD canned Girardi. It does look like he might be turning the team around a bit.

    No. But for a catcher he's a pretty good hitter.

    Look, I get it. I wouldn't bet he wasn't doing something. But again, the evidence just isn't there.

    It was temporarily great for baseball. Then Bonds bumped the record even higher. And now the record is a joke.

    I think you have to look at each case individually. McGwire's use of andro was pretty well documented. And his vastly reduced size when he testified before Congress was pretty embarrassing.

    The difference shows up in the numbers. The numbers of Dalbec-Duran-Downs-Franchy indicate they may not be major league players. But you're right that the difference is not that big at this level.

    Speaking of Dave Dombrowski, he joined the Tigers in 2002, and they did not finish first until 2011. (They did make it to the WS in 2006 as a Wild Card team.) Does that mean he was doing a terrible job all those years, or was it because of the situation he walked into? And why did he get a leash that long? Things to ponder for Dave fans.

    I'm not really sure what your case against Reggie is. I hated him when he was the Yankees, and he did have some clubhouse issues, but he was a hitter to be feared. And his postseason numbers pretty much live up to the hype: 77 games 278/358/527 - 885 OPS 18 HR 48 RBI
