  1. The $4M doesn't count toward 2022, because it's an option for 2023. It would count toward 2023.
  2. Didn't work very well for the Dodgers and Mets this year, in spite of enormous payrolls and great regular seasons. You've got the Crapshoot Factor on top of everything else. It's a tricky game.
  3. 2022 is our Year 1 for tax. We didn't pay tax for 2021. So 2023 would be Year 2. 2024 would be the Scramble to Get Back Under year. Just like they paid tax for 2018 and 2019 and scrambled to get under for 2020.
  4. Regardless of financial loss, if you keep going over the tax limits there are talent penalties too, which are not to be taken lightly. It's a pretty tough system to beat.
  5. Is it impossible to lose?
  6. No, I meant what I said. Because we paid tax for 2022, our Year 3 would be 2024. If we didn't go over this year it would be 2025.
  7. On the other hand, expecting rich people to be willing to lose money to make us happy is pretty delusional too.
  8. If we assume that the Red Sox want to re-set every third year, what this really does is make the re-set years 2024 and 2027 instead of 2025 and 2028. Of course a plan to re-set every third year might be questionable in itself.
  9. And not too many guys can say they hit for the cycle in a playoff game.
  10. The Yankees played musical shortstops in the ALCS. Game 1 IKF Game 2 Peraza Game 3 Cabrera Game 4 IKF
  11. What bkz said above is what other Yankee fans complained about. He has skills, but blows a lot of simple plays.
  12. Over the last 2 seasons he has a total fWAR of 3.0 in 300 games, or 1.5 per 150 games. He is by definition a below-average player.
  13. Many Yankees fans think he was a disaster fielding-wise.
  14. If Cashman gets that new extension, it's a great time to be a Yankee hater.
  15. I think Old Red is saying it's not a safe bet the Sox don't sign a closer type like Robertson or whoever and leave Houck as one of the late inning options. It's not like Houck nailed down the closer job going forward based on 2022. Let's face it, there are many ways they could go. We are surely all hoping they acquire some relievers.
  16. Nicely put, Larry.
  17. One thing about Dave Dombrowski is that he doesn't mind making moves that are obvious. He doesn't care all that much about being creative. He goes for the prime cuts like Price, Kimbrel, Sale, JDM, Eovaldi. The one time he got a little creative was with the trades for Thornburg and Smith, which sadly didn't work out at all.
  18. The bottom line is you need a lot of freaking pitching to succeed. You need at least 3 good starters and probably 5 good relievers now.
  19. Yes, the normal in-season trade deadline is July 31.
  20. Yeah, it almost seems like the more titles you win, the higher the expectations get...
  21. I was only talking about the ones that are literally in the past.
  22. The last place finishes are all in the past. Why do you care about them? LOL
  23. If you don't care about the championships that have been won, what's the freakin' point of any of this LOL
  24. Now this was pretty funny. Yeah, that seems like something John would do.
