  1. If Nick is right, it would seem to be an egregious blunder by the Sox, because Hosmer would represent $5.72 mill AAV against their tax payroll for 2023. That would be crazy.
  2. But it was 8/144 or 18 mill AAV, so it should be 17.28 mill, I think.
  3. Yep. Riley's contract bought out his 3 arb years. The offer to Devers was with 2 arb years left - now 1 left. In theory Riley's deal should be a good comp for Devers.
  4. Plus he was the Pied Piper.
  5. I don't think San Diego's tax AAV is reduced except by the league minimum amount being paid by Boston. But the info about this in Cot's and Spotrac is either missing or hopelessly confusing.
  6. Bob Hamelin is also the man who heavily scouted Whitlock and advised the Sox to take him in the Rule 5 draft.
  7. No question. But then you don't have Devers in your 2023 lineup.
  8. No, you're right, it's serious money. At the same time it appears unrealistically light.
  9. Right, but how serious of an effort have the Sox made to sign Devers to an extension before now?
  10. Oh yeah sure, that's the big advantage of being a pessimist, right?! moon and I are co-chairmen of the Hozzy/Bobby D Discount DH Tandem Fan Club!
  11. With one difference. If they let Bogaerts go, and don't sign Devers to an extension before the season, everyone will KNOW he's gone, so the pretensions would be utterly pointless.
  12. Man, Paxton and Ref for 5.2 mill in one day. This might be Bloom's best day of the whole offseason!
  13. Now that's a bargain!
  14. Paxton is exercising his player option, so add $4 mill to the payroll and pray for his health.
  15. Indeed. The heat is on.
  16. They do have balls raising prices. But as others have said, no one is forced to pay. Personally I think a little unrest in the fanbase is not such a bad thing...
  17. Awesome post Hugh.
  18. The loss of IFA money is probably the most damaging of all the penalties.
  19. What I mean is, we don't care about Henry's wallet. That's not what this is about. Apparently it's a point that has to be made over and over.
  20. We don't care about him paying the tax.
  21. The scenario is that there's about $100 mill to spend before hitting the tax line.
  22. Yes, that's fair.
  23. Doesn't get much respect, does he? He doesn't need to do much to earn a minimum salary.
  24. After 2021, Perez wasn't really a low risk to fail. The point of confusion is equating low cost with low risk.
  25. Pretty hard to argue with that.
