  1. OK, but you and Old Red can be testy too. We can all be somewhat snarky here. I see people defending Bloom on some points and criticizing DD on some points, sure, but that's not the same thing as getting upset. It's just discussion and argument.
  2. I don't see anyone getting very upset at all. You're making that part up.
  3. Dave Dombrowski was GM of a team that lost 119 games in 2003. Blaming him for that would obviously be idiotic. Old schoolers who say you're always what your record says are not really using much common sense.
  4. What do you actually know about what the masses think? How many of them have you actually heard from?
  5. I think they already know their needs and budget?
  6. Narciso Crook, AKA "The Conceited Thief".
  7. All true. The Blame Game is just a game we play to amuse ourselves.
  8. Ben C. made an important contribution as well, of course, because the 2018 team wouldn't have gone over the tax threshold without the $54 million dead money of Hanley, Pablo and Pedroia.
  9. He's talking about the years before and after Dombrowski, so he's right.
  10. You know Bloom has budgetary constraints. You've talked plenty of times about the "allowance" he gets from Henry. That's a fair description of budgetary constraints!
  11. I wouldn't trade the Red Sox century for any other team's. That's the simplest way to look at it for me.
  12. Now for regular season success. Winning pct.: NYY .583 LAD .563 STL .559 BOS .548 ATL .541 OAK .528 LAA .524 CLE .518 HOU .511 PHI .506 Playoff appearances: NYY 19 (INCLUDES 2 WC LOSSES) STL 16 (3 WC LOSSES) LAD 14 ATL 14 BOS 11 OAK 11 (3 WC LOSSES) HOU 10 MIN 9 (2 WC LOSSES) SFG 8 CLE 8 (2 WC LOSSES)
  13. Who are the most successful MLB franchises of this century? I'm using 2000 as the first year of the century. Some have argued that it didn't actually start until 2001, but it's an arbitrary sample anyway, so who cares? Plus this makes it look like we're trying to be fair to the Yankees, who won it all in 2000. First let's look at playoff success, which above all means winning the World Series, or at least getting there. Red Sox fans like how this works out. World Series championships: BOS 4 SFG 3 HOU 2 STL 2 NYY 2 World Series appearances (records): HOU 5 (2-3) BOS 4 (4-0) SFG 4 (3-1) STL 4 (2-2) NYY 4 (2-2) LAD 3 (1-2) PHI 3 (1-2) KCR 2 (1-1) TBR 2 (0-2) NYM 2 (0-2) DET 2 (0-2) TEX 2 (0-2)
  14. If you stick around here long enough you'll hear everything. It's always entertaining, though.
  15. The guy that signed Seager for $325 mill got fired.
  16. It appears you will be disappointed on that count, to start the season at least...
  17. So what the Red Sox really need to do is upgrade their Crapshoot Mitigation Staff.
  18. No, I don't think they believe that. It's just an opportunity to castigate Bloom.
  19. FanGraphs says Brasier was unlucky in 2022. He had a FIP of 3.61, a K/BB of 4.92 and an fWAR of 0.5. That's why he's still around.
  20. That has a lot to do with the internet, of course. In the old days most fans didn't know these minor transactions even occurred.
  21. So your position is that pitching eliminates the crapshoot factor.
  22. I'm just trying to find something more interesting to complain about...
  23. He was actually pretty consistent from 2017-2019. Anyway, you're a clear winner on this one. No need to rub it in.
  24. I know. Is it going to be another of those offseasons where people start muttering about collusion?
  25. The good news is, Chaim hasn't spent much of that pot of available money yet. As Tom Petty said, the waiting is the hardest part.
