  1. Choosing the difference between trading him for something or keeping him one more year is like a choice between...well, any two really s***ty things you can think of.
  2. True, but you also don't make billions by totally ignoring your customers. There's a "happy medium" somewhere between...
  3. 2021 attendance was shrunk by COVID measures. The attendance for the Sox 2021 home opener shows as 4,452.
  4. So you were doing some really good 'shrooms at the time. But seriously, even the idea was Mookie was intent on free agency is pure speculation. He did say he gave serious consideration to an earlier extension offer from the Sox.
  5. We're not. But the Sox do have the third highest market value after NYY and LAD, per Forbes.
  6. To be fair, what some people think is that the Sox should have had a more serious negotiation with Mookie, and they may be right.
  7. That's what some fans want, sure. But of course if you break the bank on a guy and he doesn't meet expectations, they're furious. Of course a fairly high % of fans are just miserable pricks who want everything their way.
  8. As I've said before, there's no such thing as fair market value with MLB free agents, because it doesn't operate like a normal market.
  9. They never have been.
  10. That sure doesn't sound like Devers Forevers!
  11. It does make sense to lean toward the non-QO'd FA's.
  12. It seems like a Jerry Jones-Jimmy Johnson type of thing where the owner wanted more credit. Maybe it's a Texas thing.
  13. Sorry man, but you did issue a qualifier, in post #166.
  14. That's not a problem. Without them we would have sucked much worse. Their price tags? Yeah, that could be a problem.
  15. Screw them. Ex-Yankee Eovaldi did some very good things for us, and did some of them against the Yankees. Whitlock and Refsnyder are former Yankee properties who have done well for us so far too.
  16. Gallo would be fine--as long as other more stimulating moves are also made.
  17. Groome was the lottery ticket.
  18. They have around $95 million. That's after Bogey opting out.
  19. Bloom works for Henry. Henry fires HOBO's who don't get the results he wants.
  20. Why not? Keep in mind that for the first 5 years of the deal, San Diego paid Hosmer $21 mill but were only assessed $18 mill AAV. The Fangraphs article explains the change in rules, and common sense says no way Bloom makes the trade otherwise.
  21. Will they make Eovaldi a feel-good story one more time?
  22. Placeholder makes sense to me. I think they have pretty high hopes for Mayer.
  23. I'm pronouncing you the winner, based on the Fangraphs article I linked. As I said, there's no way Bloom would have made the deal knowing he was taking a $5.7 million bump to payroll for tax purposes. If someone looks at Cot's or Spotrac, it does look like a $5.7 mill hit, so it's quite a source of confusion for anyone who actually looks at these things.
  24. I found the answer on Hosmer. There was a change in the new CBA. The Sox AAV hit is indeed only the $720 K. No way Bloom would have made the trade if it caused tax issues. The comments at the end of this are interesting. We're not the only ones wracking our brains trying to figure out this convoluted crap. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/a-minor-cba-change-could-create-contract-wrinkles/
  25. Confounding, isn't it?
